WHISKY vs RUM
🥃Whisky is a spirit distilled from fermented grain mash that may include barley, rye, wheat or corn while rum is a spirit distilled from the byproducts of sugar cane, including sugarcane juice or molasses.
🥃A brief overview of the differences between whisky and rum are the main ingredient's, aging where all whisky’s must be aged, but not all rum must be aged. Color, while rum can be clear or dark, whisky is typically amber or brown. Next would be the flavor. Rum is typically sweet, while whisky is typically smokey or peaty. And finally added spices. While any rum can be spiced rum and contain added flavorings and spices, most whisky’s do not have flavor additives. In fact, many types of whisky are prohibited from adding flavors.
🥃A closer look at a few of the similarities between both. Both whisky and rum are distilled spirits. While rum does not have to be aged, aged rum shares many similarities with whisky. The aging process can be responsible for much of the flavor and color of a good rum or whisky. The longer a liquor is aged, the darker it will be. Because both dark rum and whisky are aged in wooden barrels, they can share similar flavor profiles. All sorts of woods are known for giving a caramel and vanilla type of flavor to liquors that are aged in them.

🥃With their similarities and differences, it is quite clear that one liquor has an advantage over the other in one category and vice versa in the other factors. Ultimately, it comes down to people's preferences and budget for each liquor.
🥃Choose whisky if you prefer smoky flavors, don't mind splurging and enjoy your liquors neat. Choose rum if you like sweet and rich flavors, value accessibility and love Caribbean drinks.
