Rigzone's business concept was based on sharing the pie or baking new pies and not eliminating the competition. The idea came out of book titled blue ocean strategy . The idea was to work with the competition and establish its own niche market as well a loyal customers. The ideal was to also develop and popularise the area for people to meet and relax and enjoy this special recipy and a virety of dishes. The core business concept :-
A basic ... "bar-b-que and beer" outlet and a meeting place for oil and gas professional. The Bar-B- Que and Beer concept is a home grown industry in Miri Sarawak which has so far mushroomed only in Miri . Although rather saturated, the owners were optimistic on it's depcialy gaining polularity throughout the state and eventually becoming recognised regionally and internationally. Nevertheless, on opening day, it was quite a culture shock when business was not only slow but difficult to say the least. For eight long months Rigzone operated below the red line and its owner was forced to return to employment while trying to resuscitate the Business. Slowly, the business started to breathe at painstaking snail pace and finaly broke even at the end of the 8th month. The next 3 months saw business improving marginally and by December the business bore some fruits. One observation the ownerrs realised was that closing for even a day
had significat negative effects on the business. naturally this is quite common for sole proprietor type businesses. Due to the year end festive break and a 1 week long vacation in the village, the business suffered. For the first 20 days in the month of January 2013 there was minimal business. it was only in the last 10 days of of that month did the business pick up to be able to break even once again. Like most events in life, Rigzone suffered yet another blow and a major set back when it was forced to close due to some land disputes with the army. The business was shut down for several months and this brought about disastrous consequences. When the business finally managed to reopen, it was dejavu... Once again business was slow. Although this was anticiapated, the te,ptation to give up was even stronger. Other business partners gave up and stunted recovery further.. With it went away some valuable customers and Rigzone was forced to stand alone.. The partners could not understand the concept of perserverence, hard work and delayed gratification. This time however the business stabilised after only 5 months and iscurrently sustaining. The surrounding environment is constantly being improved and upgraded to creat a more and more ambient and relaxing atmosphere. Several more enhancements are planned for the coming year to improve its outlook and ambience. One of the pride of Rigzone is its popular Bar-B-Q Ribs which is second to none in Miri or Sarawak for that matter. It has its own unique flavour is is ever increasing in popularity through word of mouth. With this conviction, Rigzone BBQ Station is set to be the place to be in Sarawak especially by tourist who travel from as far as Russia and Britain just to gget a taste this uniquely flavoured recipe, The owners of Rigzone BBQ hopes that more customers will patronise this outlet and savour this unique one of a kind dish. The vision of course is to be able to provide this dish not just in RTBS but throughout the world so that everyone can enjoy this unique recipe
