✦✦Penang2030 : New Economy ✦ Smart City Initiatives Penang is the state with the highest smart city initiatives. We have 23 state agencies and 56 public markets are now able to do transactions cashless ensuring delivery of service at the most efficient level. There are nearly 565,000 transactions with a value of nearly RM10 million in Penang. This shows the acceptance by Penangites of our digital agenda. ✦ Digital Economy The Penang State Government created Digital Penang aimed at accelerating the creation of a digital society in Penang. Firstly, to create a digital transformation master plan, which is a three-year roadmap for state government in implementing our digital agenda. We also embarked on creating a digital integrated utility mapping database which will capture all utilities that are laid underground so that we can map them out digitally. And this will help a lot in the planning of our infrastructure in Penang. We have recently launched the Creative Digital District. It is a place-making initiative here in the heart of George Town that aims to create a startup hub and to attract entrepreneurs in the technology field. ✦ Creative Economy To propel Penang’s economic growth, we need to inject economical effect and encourage greater synergy across different disciplines. This had led to the fruition of Malaysia’s first ever Creative Economy exco portfolio, to unearth the underlying potential in the creative landscape including but not limited to art, culture and heritage. Meanwhile, Penang remains steadfast in our pursuit towards tourism excellence. As home to two UNESCO sites – the George Town UNESCO World Heritage Site and the Penang Hill UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, Penang will continue to lead by example and pivot our focus on building resilience within and beyond the industry. Volunteerism, dialogue and feedback between the people and government will be actively promoted to ensure that everyone has a voice in Penang2030. ✦ Digital Learning Education is an important foundation that delivers equitable and excellent outcomes for society. Penang State Government sees the importance of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), bringing together clusters like Tech Dome Penang, Penang Skills Development Corporation, Penang Science Cluster, Penang Digital Library to prepare our students for the future workforce. For under privileged students in our community, we will provide them the access to online studies and equip them with digital knowledge. ✦ Social Development Penang adopting The Gender Inclusiveness Policy since 2019. It provides a clear framework for the implementation of Gender Responsive and Participatory Budgeting (GRPB) and Gender-Balanced Management of 40:40:20 all decision-making levels. Penang is also the first state to introduce The Safe Family Policy, creating First Support Points for victims of domestic violence. Penang2030 - The State's vision ; The Rakyat's concerns Accelerating Penang2030 As we enter 2022, let us remain cautious and optimistic of the economic recovery. Our main focus is to ensure the twin engines of growth of Penang namely Manufacturing and Services to continue to create jobs and retain talent. “Accelerating Penang2030”, covering the second phase of Penang2030, from 2022 to 2025. Central to this period of policy implementation are three sets of initiatives. (1) Community-building Initiatives; (2) Industry Engagement Initiatives, and; (3) Placemaking Initiatives ✦ Community-building Initiatives Community-building Initiatives will impact the People of Penang as a whole, empowering everyone especially the under-privileged, and rallying young and old to participate alongside the government initiatives in bringing services and assistance to those most in need of them. The key objective is to galvanize all the 40 constituencies, building on our belief in the strength of diversity, using digital means and our love for the environment. Volunteerism and dialogue between the people and government will be actively promoted and coordinated. A one-stop service-based platform run by 28 organizations called the Penang Care Society have been set up to support families and individuals that were affected by the pandemic. ✦ Industry Engagement Initiatives As we celebrate the 50th year of industrialization for Penang in 2022, we set forth to expand the E&E manufacturing footprint and be Industry 4.0 ready as preparing for the next 50 years.
