HARMONICO was honoured to be invited to the closing ceremony of the 46th Thirumurai Recital Vizha last Sunday, organized by the Malaysia Hindu Sangam Penang State Council, held at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil Mak Mandin in Butterworth, Penang.

Thirumurai, a collection of 12 volumes of hymns dedicated to Lord Shiva and other Hindu saints, was the focus of this year's competition. Over 3,500 participants from various schools in Penang took part in the day-long event and the closing ceremony was a grand affair, attended by more than 1,000 people.

马来西亚佛教联合总会 (UBOM) 在槟城和谐中心举行新闻发布会，并讨论了假和尚的课题，呼吁公众在遇到僧人时必保持警惕，鼓励布施粮食而非钱财。此外，马来西亚佛教联合会（UBOM）宣布2024年国庆日祈福、托钵，供僧大会将于2024年9月1日在菩提国民型中学举行。

发布会出席者包括泰国驻槟城总领事 Datuk Raschada Jiwalai, 活动顾问 拿督斯里黄得轩局绅、Dr Doreen Yeap 及和谐机构总经理欧宗义。

A press conference was held today at Penang Harmony Centre to announce the upcoming 2024 Merdeka Day Blessings organised by the United Buddhist Order of Malaysia (UBOM) and to address the pressing issue of Bogus Monks.

We were honoured to have the presence of the Royal Thai Consulate General, Dato' Raschada Jiwalai DSPN, the Event Advisor, Dato' Seri Steven Ooi, Dr. Doreen Yeap and the organising committee from UBOM, alongside our General Manager, Mr. Paul Au Chong Yee.

The public is urged to exercise caution when encountering monks and to refrain from offering cash donations. Food offerings are the most appropriate form of support.

Apart from that, we are excited to announce that the 2024 Merdeka Day Blessings, Pindapata, and Mahasanghikadana by UBOM will take place on the 1st of September 2024, at SMJK Phor Tay.

A productive weekend was spent delving into Penang’s rich cultural heritage. The third session of the Penang Chinese Folk Religious Exploration Tour kicked off with an insightful lecture by Dr. Bak Jia How on “A Discussion of the customs of the Hungry Ghost Festival”. The following day, participants embarked on a fascinating tour of the Bukit Mertajam Yulan Festival, also guided by Dr. Bak Jia How.

A big thank you to Dr. Bak Jia How, Mr. Teh Bak Eam, Mr. Tan Hiap Hong and Penang City Eye for making this enriching experience possible!

#2024年槟城华人民俗宗教课程与导览

Beberapa murid Sekolah Menengah Jenis Kebangsaan Jit Sin II telah mengikuti sesi Jelajah Harmoni Seberang Jaya pada Sabtu lalu! ✨

Pelajar-pelajar tersebut berpeluang untuk menjejakkan kaki ke Masjid Sembilang, Kuil Arulmigu Karumariamman, Rumah Berhala Ku Cheng Tse dan Kuil Ibadah & Kesefahaman Sri Sri Radha Krishna Kanhaiya (TODU). Melalui program ini, mereka bukan sahaja dapat mempelajari tentang kepelbagaian agama dan budaya di Malaysia, malah dapat memupuk semangat toleransi dan keharmonian antara satu sama lain.

Semoga pengalaman ini menjadi inspirasi buat mereka untuk terus menghargai keindahan kepelbagaian dalam masyarakat kita.

中元节也称为鬼节或盂兰盆节，是一个融合了佛教、道教和民间信仰的节日。在农历七月十五日，佛教举行 #盂兰盆会，道教则庆祝 #地官赦罪日。这一天被认为是阴间的鬼魂能够回到阳间接受供养的日子。

根据《佛说盂兰盆经》，盂兰盆会起源于目连救母的故事。目连是佛陀的弟子，他发现母亲在饿鬼道受苦，便向佛陀请教如何救她。佛陀告诉目连，在七月十五日供养众僧，可以解救母亲的苦难。于是，目连准备了丰富的供品，供养十方僧众，最终使母亲脱离了饿鬼道，升天享福。

而在道教中，中元节是地官赦罪日。根据《太上洞玄灵宝三元玉京玄都大献经》的记载，七月十五日是地官校戒，擢选众人，分别善恶的日子。地官赦罪，可以让罪人在这一天得到解脱，减轻他们的罪过。

今年中元节，有南方大学学院教授莫家浩博士到来槟城，探讨分别源于道教与佛教的中元与盂兰如何以“拜普渡”的形式在民间社会扎根，同时通过历史文献与田野考察资料，分享本地中元节俗的前世今生，勾勒其变与不变的历史与社会面貌。

Pada minggu terakhir lawatan tapak RIBI, Urusetia Jawatankuasa Tabung Amanah / Peruntukan Khas RIBI Negeri Pulau Pinang - HARMONICO telah berkunjung ke rumah-rumah ibadat di Sungai Puyu, Perai, Air Itam, Padang Lalang, Komtar, Machang Bubuk, Padang Kota, Bukit Tambun, Jawi, Tanjong Bunga dan Telok Bahang.

Ahli-ahli Dewan Undangan Negeri (ADUN) bagi kawasan Air Itam dan Komtar iaitu YB. Joseph Ng Soon Siang dan YB. Teh Lai Heng turut hadir untuk meninjau keadaan rumah ibadat di bawah KADUN masing-masing.

Sepanjang tempoh tiga minggu ini, sebanyak 60 buah premis RIBI telah dikunjungi untuk menilai kelayakan permohonan sebelum laporan dibuat dan dibawa ke mesyuarat penilaian.

Untuk pengetahuan semua, Kerajaan Negeri Pulau Pinang akan memperuntukkan sebanyak RM10 juta dana untuk membantu membaik pulih premis-premis RIBI untuk pelaksanaan bagi kerja-kerja pembinaan dan penyelenggaraan serta kecemasan.

Lawatan tersebut dilakukan bertujuan untuk meninjau dan mengenal pasti masalah yang dihadapi di setiap RIBI sebelum proses seterusnya boleh dijalankan.

Untuk kawasan Bagan Dalam, Bagan Jermal, Pengkalan Kota, Pulau Tikus dan Bayan Lepas, Ahli-ahli Dewan Undangan Negeri (ADUN) bagi kawasan-kawasan tersebut iaitu YB. Kumaran Krishnan, YB. Untuk pengetahuan semua, Kerajaan Negeri Pulau Pinang akan memperuntukkan sebanyak RM10 juta dana untuk membantu membaik pulih premis-premis RIBI untuk pelaksanaan bagi kerja-kerja pembinaan dan penyelenggaraan serta kecemasan.

盂兰盛会或是庆赞中元活动，自然也有其固定的运作模式，且每个仪式，摸拜对象，供品及福品等都有其隐含的意涵及寓意。本次讲座《漫谈中元节习俗》 探讨分别源于道教与佛教的中元与盂兰如何以“拜普渡”的形式在民间社会紮根，同时通过历史文献与田野考察资料，分享本地中元节俗的前世今生，勾勒其变与不变的历史与社会面貌。

我们邀请了香港中文大学历史学博士 #莫家浩 主讲《漫谈中元节习俗》，除了讲解马来西亚各地的中元节习俗，还会带领学员们到大山脚埠众盂兰胜会 ，一睹全马其中最大尊的大士爷金身。

Sebaik sahaja Permohonan Tabung Amanah / Peruntukan Khas Rumah Ibadat Bukan Islam (RIBI) Negeri Pulau Pinang ditutup pada 30hb Jun yang lalu, Urusetia Jawatankuasa Tabung Amanah / Peruntukan Khas RIBI Negeri Pulau Pinang - HARMONICO telah memulakan proses seterusnya iaitu dengan mengadakan sesi lawatan tapak ke setiap RIBI yang memohon untuk menilai dan meneliti kelayakan permohonan mereka.

Pada minggu pertama sesi lawatan tapak ini, pihak HARMONICO telah berkunjung ke premis-premis RIBI di KADUN Air Itam, Paya Terubong, Berapit, Seberang Jaya, Sungai Bakap, Bukit Tambun, Padang Kota, Seri Delima, Sungai Pinang, Sungai Puyu dan Bagan Jermal. Bagi KADUN Air Itam, Seri Delima dan Bagan Jermal, kunjungan tapak turut disertai oleh Ahli-ahli Dewan Undangan Negeri (ADUN) bagi kawasan masing-masing iaitu YB. Joseph Ng Soon Siang, YB. Tan Hooi Peng dan YB. Chee Yeeh Keen.
