In June this year, our Malaysian government made an announcement to abolish and replace the mandatory death penalty, with alternative sentences, subject to the discretion of the Courts.

Needless to say, this shift would carry material impact in relation to more than 30 offences, amongst others, murder, and drug trafficking, and affect the lives of at least 1,341 inmates who are currently held on death row.

This shift is underway and welcomed by many, as it is in line with the fundamental tenets of human rights and dignity, representing a step taken by our country towards improving its criminal justice system.

Amicus Curiae Moot Sub-Committee is back with another exciting Mini Moot series, to provide participants an opportunity to experience theoretical and practical application of the law in a setting akin to a real life court proceeding. Spoiler alert, the Moot Question this time is on Springboard Injunctions!

Wondering what is a Springboard Injunction? Worry not as we have invited seasoned practitioner, Mr. Kenny Lam Kian Yip of Rosli Dahlan Saravana Partnership as guest speaker for our Knowledge Sharing Session (KSS). The KSS will provide you an insight into the legal principles, legal procedures and legal requirements to a Springboard Injunction.

Amicus Curiae Career Sub-Committee's "So You Wanna Be A" series came to a fruitful end!

On the eight and final episode of the series, we are honoured to have Mr. Max Ng, the Founder and Managing Director of Sdn Bhd, onboard as guest speaker for “So You Wanna Be A Financial Adviser”.

Mr. Max expressed that financial adviser is a highly regulated, if not the most regulated, profession in the country. Resting on that opening statement, he shared with us what financial advisers do – from recommending various financial products to providing financial advises on personal finance. Throughout the conversation, every so often he stressed on the importance to equip oneself with financial knowledge.

Mr. Max found that having a legal background would absolutely benefit one who aspires to venture into this profession. From there on, he begun dissecting the transferable qualities found in the legal profession that could lead a person to succeed in a career as financial adviser. The entire session ended with a high note with him encouraging the attendees to always enquire their inner selves if it is a job that they truly love to do, and if it is not, what is the harm to take a different path?

We appreciate all attendees for tuning in and we believe everyone enjoyed this insightful session thoroughly. We would like to thank our moderators, and William How for doing a terrific job, and lastly, we thank our collaborative partner, for hosting the Right to be Heard series.
