We are pleased to report that our total assets continued to strengthen in FY2023, expanding by 5.25% to RM9.31 billion from RM8.85 billion a year ago.

Total shareholders’ equity as at 30 June 2023 stood at RM5.60 billion and return on shareholders’ equity for FY2023 was 9.6%.

Tight Gas is gas with very low flow rates. It is found in sedimentary layers of rock that are cemented together so tightly that it hinders extraction.

Getting tight gas out usually requires enhanced technology like “hydraulic fracturing” where fluid is pumped into the ground to make it more permeable.

In keeping with our growth aspirations for our terminals business, DIALOG Terminals Langsat marked its first venture into storage facilities for renewable fuel products.

With a capacity of 24,000 m3, this venture will serve potential users such as biofuel production companies, energy trading houses and multinational energy companies.

Kerosene was the dominant petroleum product in the US prior to 1905, while gasoline was a small byproduct that was often poured off into rivers.

Gasoline was sold for as low as 2 cents a gallon in 1892. This changed when automobiles were invented, which led to gasoline sales overtaking kerosene sales by 1911.

Our first upstream venture outside of Malaysia for mature upstream oil producing fields in Thailand, the L53/48 concession, has been performing well.

This is in-line with our diversification strategy, whereby the increased upstream activity provides the opportunity to participate in other parts of the value chain in the field redevelopment cycle, particularly in the provision of engineering and specialist technical services.

On 7 November 2023, Morimatsu International Holdings and DIALOG Group Berhad held a groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion of their joint venture company – Morimatsu DIALOG (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. in Pengerang, Johor Darul Ta’zim, Malaysia. With an investment value of approximately RM250 million, the partnership will see the further growth of the one-stop engineering and fabrication services hub to serve both local and international customers.

Officiated by the Menteri Besar of Johor - YAB Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, Mr. Hirotaka Kawashima - Executive Director of Morimatsu International Holdings Company Limited, and Tan Sri Dr. Ngau Boon Keat - Executive Chairman of DIALOG Group Berhad, the expansion is estimated to be completed progressively by Q1 2025. The 18,245 m2 facility will mainly consist of module production workshops with modern workplace amenities that will support the company in meeting the demands and opportunities in the region and beyond, while contributing more opportunities to the state’s job market.

We have once again achieved a record year for the highest vessel call in FY2023, with a total of 1,936 vessels at our Pengerang Deepwater Terminals in Malaysia and a total of 1,999 vessels at the DIALOG Jubail Supply Base in Saudi Arabia.

In the early days, finding the right place to successfully drill for oil was largely the result of guesswork and persistence. Today, scientists have since discovered a more effective method that involves measuring the speed of sound waves as they pass through rocks underground.

We have remained resilient and delivered an improved result for FY2023 despite the sluggish global economy from the prolonged Russia-Ukraine conflict, inflation and lingering effects of the pandemic.

We are pleased to report that we have closed FY2023 with a revenue of RM3 billion, which was higher by 29.43% from RM2.32 billion last year.

An FPSO is a Floating Production Storage and Offloading vessel, designed to receive oil produced by itself or from nearby platforms or subsea templates.

The vessel is able to process and store oil until it can be offloaded onto a tanker.

In ancient times, the Egyptians discovered many ways of using liquid forms of petroleum. These include using it for embalming, dressing wounds, soothing pain as well as a laxative.

The Sumerians, Assyrians and Babylonians used liquid petroleum discovered along the Euphrates River as mortar for road building and for waterproofing.

A 42-gallon (159 litres) barrel of crude oil is able to yield approximately 45 gallons (170 litres) of petroleum. This is due to “processing gain” - a phenomenon that occurs when the product of a raw material has a lower specific gravity than it did in its unrefined form.

A wellbore is a hole that is drilled to aid in the exploration and recovery of natural resources, including oil, gas or water. A wellbore is the actual hole that forms the well.

A wellbore can be encased by materials such as steel and cement, or it may be uncased. The motivation for drilling a wellbore is usually to extract oil or gas for a protracted period of time.

Malaysia have recorded unhealthy air quality readings for more than a month, caused by the haze. It is important to know how to protect yourself during this time to avoid any respiratory complications, especially when you are outdoors.

Remember to always wear a N95 facemask, refrain from doing any strenuous activity and drink a lot of water to stay hydrated.

Sour gas is natural gas or any other gas containing significant amounts of hydrogen sulphide.

It is extremely poisonous, highly corrosive, explosive, colourless and foul smelling. The higher the sulphide content, the more the processing steps required during refining.

Sweet crude generally has very little or trace amounts of the sulphide, whilst sour crude has higher sulphide content.

On 4 October, DIALOG Terminals Langsat 1 successfully received the first biofeedstock - Used Cooking Oil (UCO) into a group of newly retrofitted tanks for renewable storage.

Meanwhile, DIALOG Terminals Langsat 3’s first foray into storage facilities for renewable fuel products with a storage capacity of approximately 24,000 m3 is expected to commence operations by the end of 2024.

This development of storage facilities for sustainable and renewable products is in-line with low-carbon economy transition under DIALOG’s Climate Change Strategy. It is part of ongoing efforts to expand product and solution offering to support the growth and development in the sustainable and renewable sector.

On 25 September, we came together with BASF Services Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. and BASF PETRONAS Chemicals Sdn. Bhd. for a signing ceremony to mark our continuous collaboration as DIALOG further expands our downstream business. Being our first foray into the production of specialty chemicals, this also acts as a catalyst for us to expand our footprint in this sector by producing high-value specialty chemical products.

This venture will not only support the growing demand in Southeast Asia but also tap into business opportunities created by the increasing demand for malic acid worldwide in the food and beverage industry.

Oil has a very low melting point and transforms into liquid at room temperature. This is because oils contain more carbon-to-carbon bonds than fats.

The low melting point is because of the high unsaturation of oil. The carbon-to-carbon double bonds distort the molecules' shape, so they cannot pack closely together to become a solid form, which causes it to melt into liquid.

The Spar Platform is a type of floating oil platform that can support drilling, production and storage operations.

It consists of a large vertical cylinder bearing topsides with equipment. Similar to an iceberg, the majority of the spar facility is located beneath the water's surface, providing the facility with increased stability.

Hand sanitisers have a connection with petrochemicals. Petroleum-derived ethanol, along with propanol and isopropanol are important to hand sanitisers because they’re highly soluble in water.

It is these ingredients that destroy pathogens that cause COVID-19 by breaking apart proteins, splitting cells into pieces or messing with a cell’s metabolism.

Crude oil does not have a freezing point because it consists of several different compounds, with each compound freezing at a different temperature.

Whenever lower temperatures are a concern for drilling or transporting oil, a “pour point” is used instead.

It is the point at which crude oil becomes semisolid and will no longer flow.

Proper hazardous waste disposal through a qualified and certified waste contractor is a must in every DIALOG operation. All hazardous wastes are managed by our own Certified Scheduled Waste Competent Person, registered and recognised by the Department of Environment (DOE).

For FY2022, the hazardous waste was generated from the routine tank cleaning activities at our terminal operations. The increase in the total amount of hazardous waste compared to the previous year was mainly due to the resumption of activities, after COVID-19 restrictions were lifted.
