The Canon FTb is a 35mm single reflex camera manufactured by Canon of Japan from March 1971 replacing the Canon FT QL . It features a Canon FD lens mount and is also compatible with Canon's earlier FL mount. lenses in stop down metering mode. Launched alongside the top-of-the-line F-1, the FTb was the mass-market camera in the range.

The FTb was primarily intended to be a camera for the advanced amateur photographer, offering many of the same features and same build quality as the F-1, but without the option of interchangeable prisms, focusing screens, or motor drives.

The FTb has an all-mechanical horizontally traveling focal plane shutter with timed speeds from 1/1000 to 1 second and bulb. The FTb has rubberized silk shutter curtains rather than the more durable but more expensive titanium curtains found on the F-1.

It offers a 10-second self-timer, as well as mirror lock up.

In 1973, the FTb design was revised slightly. The camera was given a plastic tipped film advance lever. The stop down lever was changed to the same style as that found on the F-1. The PC sync socket was given a spring-loaded plastic cover. The ring around the outer edge of the shutter speed dial was changed from a scalloped design to a diamond textured design. Finally, a shutter speed display was added in the lower left hand corner of the viewfinder. This model was unofficially known as FTb-N or FTbn.

The Yashica A was a basic model, both cosmetically and spec wise similar to the late versions of the Yashicaflex A-I (first released in 1954) but with the top speed of the Copal shutter upgraded from 1/200 to 1/300.With a number of cosmetic chnages, it continued in production until 1969. Not many were sold in later years.

Although usually a black camera, cameras produced between about 1957 to 1959, like the Yashica D, had grey leatherette with either black or grey metalwork or cream leatherette with brown metalwork (rare).

The Yashica A features twin Yashimar then Yashikor 80mm f/3.5 lenses, and has a Copal rim-set shutter, with shutter speeds of 1/25, 1/50, 1/100, and 1/300. It has a PC connection for flash sync, and because it uses a leaf shutter, it is capable of X sync at all shutter speeds. It was offered with black or grey coverings. The picture size is 6x6cm.

With a number of cosmetic chnages, it continued in production until 1969. Not many were sold in later years.

Shutter speed is selected by rotating the shutter speed dial. Aperture is set by adjusting a lever on the outside of the shutter speed dial. Film advance is performed by manually turning the advance wheel until the next frame number appears in the red window on the back of the camera.
