Tomorrow is payday for us at Casepad. Then we had this big question looming in our heads. As young adults who are just beginning to learn the ways of the world, we too are clueless about how to manage our finances properly. These things are not taught in school, so Casepad gathered a few tips that will be useful for us youth to start saving and navigate our finances better. 💵

1. Control yourself, lad! 💳
You are lucky if you are blessed or taught with self-control. This is because a lot of youth are used to having quick gratification, their needs and wants are fulfilled the exact time they want it. If you want something, it is advisable to save up for it first instead of getting a credit card, if you are unable to pay for it by the end of the month.

However, using credit card is not a problem if you want to build a good credit score, AND you have the means to pay for your debts every month. The youth need to be more literate in creating a healthy credit history.

2. Know where your money flows 🏄
It is important to make sure that your spendings are not exceeding your income. You have to learn how to do budgeting so you can easily track the "hole" where your money fell into and disappeared. Once you have detected where you often spend unnecessarily, you can make amendments on how you spend your money, thus leaving you with some balance that you can use as your savings.

3. Create an emergency fund 🚑🚨
We know that the minimum pay we get is not that high compared to our commitments (insurance, student debts, bills, credit card loans) and daily expenses, but it is still important to set aside some money- no matter how small the amount is, as an emergency funding.

An emergency funding will help you when you are in trouble financially, so it is wise to consistently save the money up and treating it as a non-negotiable commitment that you have to fulfill each month. Trust us, you will sleep better at night with it. Like the Malay proverb "Sikit sikit, lama lama jadi bukit", your emergency fund may someday be enough to be the down payment for your new house. Who knows?

2. The battery life doesn't last forever, just like everything else in life 🥲
The lifespan of a laptop battery reduces everytime the battery is charged. Thus, it is wise to consider keeping your laptop plugged on whenever you use it in a circumstance where you don't need the battery.
