Congratulations to 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐜. 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟. 𝐓𝐬. 𝐃𝐫 𝐀𝐬𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐚 𝐁𝐚𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐮𝐦 from Department of Computing and Information Systems (DCIS) for winning the Best Paper Award at 2024 International Conference on Platform Technology and Service (PlatCon-24), held from 26th to 28thAugust 2024 at Sono Calm Jeju, Jeju, Korea.

Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr Aslina Baharum was also invited as the first keynote speaker at PlatCon-24, alongside Professor Dr. Yu Chen from the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at Binghamton University, USA. In addition to delivering the keynote address, she also presented two papers at the conference, one of which has been awarded the Best Paper.

This year marks the 10th event in the PlatCon conference series, a milestone that reflects its growth into a prominent platform for experts from academia, industry, and research to exchange ideas, foster collaborations, and drive innovation in platform technology and services. Dr Aslina started attended the conference since 2017 which she was awarded as best paper, and this year they invite her as the keynote speaker.
PlatCon-24 is hosted by the Institution of Creative Research Professionals (ICRP) and the Global Science and Experimental Data Hub Center (GSDC) at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI). The conference is also technically co-sponsored by the IEEE Busan section, further underscoring its importance in the global academic community.

He is known for his expertise in business transformation and public policy. You may know him as the key figure leading the major turnaround of Malaysia Airlines during his tenure as CEO, and his time as a Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department. On top of that, he’s also the Pro-Chancellor of Sunway University.
Together with his son, Leon Jala, they have started a podcast called “The Game of Impossible” where they share personal stories and experiences about achieving the impossible through the lens of leadership, business, creativity, sports, and faith.

At the Private Education Excellence Awards 2024 hosted by the Private Education Co-operative of Malaysia at Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Kuala Lumpur on 1 August 2024, the Dean of School of Engineering and Technology, Sunway University Prof Ir Denny Ng Kok Sum received the National Outstanding Researcher Award 2024. This award is given in recognition of the outstanding achievements of researchers from the private education sector. Prof Denny’s stellar contribution as a researcher is evident from his publications track records as he has published over 250 papers with an h-index of 49. In addition, he has also received more than RM5 million in research grants from national and international funding bodies. He is active in various professional bodies such as IChemE and serves as the Vice Chair of Young Scientist Network – Academy of Sciences Malaysia (YSN-ASM). He is a fellow of IChemE, UK and The Higher Education Academy, UK, as well as a Chartered Engineer with Engineering Council UK and Professional Engineer with Board of Engineers Malaysia.

During the same event, two academic staff from School of Engineering and Technology, Sunway University Assoc Prof Dr Selina Low Yeh Ching and Dr Ir Savier Kong received the Finalist Certificate in the National Outstanding Educator (University) category and National Outstanding Young Researcher category, respectively. Assoc Prof Dr Selina Low, who is the Deputy Dean (Education) at School of Engineering and Technology where she is a passionate educator who has been actively involved in initiatives to enhance student learning experiences within and beyond the classroom. She also serves as a trainer and has given presentations on teaching and learning topics ranging from technology-enhanced learning to use of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the classroom. Dr Savier Kong is a Professional Engineer registered with Board of Engineers Malaysia and has published more than 60 journal articles in reputable Chemical Engineering journals with an h-index of 14. Dr Kong also serves as an Early Career Editorial Board Member for Separation and Purification Technology and is on the Advisory Editorial Board for Journal of Chemical Technology and Biotechnology. In the same ceremony, Ts Preedha Govind from Sunway College is recognized for her achievements as the National Outstanding Educator (College) 2024. Ts Preedha enjoys mentoring and has been selected to speak at Google, Kuala Lumpur about Augmented Reality in STEM Education, organized by Women Techmakers in conjunction with International Women’s Day.

Professor Mayeen's keynote address, titled "Nuclear Medicine and Radiation for Well-being," promises to be a highlight of the conference. Join us in congratulating Prof Chua Hui Na on obtaining her copyright filing of research invention " Problem Formulation and Understanding Methodology ". Prof. Dr. Chua Hui Na received her MSc and Ph.D. from the University of Hertfordshire and the University of Nottingham, UK, respectively. She has managed and contributed to various Malaysian national research projects such as the FRGS and MDEC funds. Before joining academia, she worked in the industry for over ten years and had managed industry-based funded R&D projects when she was a full-time technical lead, filing more than ten patents. She is currently an Associate Editor for the Asia Pacific Journal of Information Systems and a Professor at the Department of Computing and Information Systems, Sunway University.

Congratulations to Dr Rabita Mohd Firdaus Achutan, Research Fellow from Research Centre For Carbon Dioxide Capture and Utilisation who has been awarded the prestigious French government MOPGA (Make Our Planet Great Again) Visiting Fellowship. Her research project to be carried out in France is related to the development of novel nanofluids towards CO2 capture.

France, as a major player in the fight against climate change and guarantor of the spirit of the Paris Agreement, launched a new MOPGA visiting fellowship program geared towards strengthening scientific contributions to climate change issues raised by the COPs. This seventh MOPGA call for applications was intended to welcome at least 40 early career researchers (ECRs) wishing to carry out their research in France. The program is funded by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the French Ministry for Higher Education and Research, and implemented by Campus France.

It is indeed an exceptional achievement for Dr Rabita to be selected as one of the 40 ECRs receiving this fellowship.

Professor Yap, from the HUMAC Research Centre is invited to deliver a talk and share the research work with undergraduate and postgraduate students of National Taichung University of Education, Taiwan.
