A low level, simple, cost effective pigment guide is as follows .

How do I stop getting dehydrated skin?
Dehydrated skin can leave you with visible flaking, itchiness and make the signs of ageing appear more pronounced.
Your skin is lacking in oil and water, and is showing in the upper layers. I suggest looking for hydrating ingredients, and sealing with a moisturiser. Try these!
Hyaluronic Acid is an all-round essential, but can be particularly beneficial for dehydrated skin working to hydrate and plump, smoothing the appearance of fine lines. Hyaluronic Acid is something I’d recommend for almost everyone. As it is naturally found in the skin, it is non-irritating, and is a powerful hydrator that acts as a magnet for moisture. It can hold 1000x its weight in water - pretty impressive!
Lactic Acid is a chemical exfoliant, working to remove dead and dehydrated from the skins surface to help avoid build up and flaking. One of the gentlest Alpha Hydroxy Acids, Lactic Acid can be a great choice for dry skin. We usually think of ingredients like lactic acid, glycolic acid, and polyhydroxy acids as exfoliants. But, interestingly, they’re also humectants. These probably shouldn’t be your primary source of hydration, because, yes, they are also exfoliants, which can cause irritation, but it’s nice to know that using these ingredients isn’t just about removing dead skin cells and other gunk from your skin—they can do that while increasing hydration. Many prescription moisturizers contain lactic acid due to its effectiveness in relieving and healing dry skin.
