Hon. Dr. Peya Mushelenga, Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of the Republic of Namibia participated in the opening ceremony of the Ministerial Meeting of the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD), in Tokyo, Japan, on 24 August 2024.

The Theme of the Meeting is, "*Co-create innovative solutions with Africa*".

Hon. Dr. Peya Mushelenga, who is accompanied by H.E. Morven M. Luswenyo, Namibia’s Ambassador to Japan and Other Government Officials, addressed the First Plenary Session on “*Realising a Sustainable Future*”.

He highlighted, amongst others, the importance of the upcoming Summit of the Future in September 2024, and how TICAD can contribute towards the Pact of the Future.

TICAD is a multilateral partnership between the African Union, the Government of Japan, the UN, and the World Bank, to promote Africa's development.

The 9th Ministerial Meeting is being held in preparation for the TICAD-9 Summit, to take place in August 2025, in Yokohama, Japan.

The Ministerial Meeting, which will end on 25 August 2024, is expected to adopt a Ministerial Outcome Document that will highlight the main points of discussion on the three main pillars, namely, Society, Peace and Stability, and Economy.

Hon. Anna Shiweda, attended a side-event on 7 May 2024, during the Africa Fertiliser and Soil Health Summit in Nairobi, Kenya. During her intervention the Minister informed those in attendance that Namibia is in the process of developing an agriculture investment plan and that a conference will be held later this year to allow the government to have engagements with the private sector on possible areas of cooperation and partnership in its implementation.

He proposed, amongst others, the need for joint advocacy peace missions of African and Nordic countries, to encourage the settlement of disputes by peaceful means.

His Majesty Philippe, The King of the Belgians arrived in Namibia on a four-day State Visit on Monday, 29 April 2024. He was received by Hon. Dr. Peya Mushelenga, Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Hon. Derek Klazen, Minister of Fisheries & Marine Resources and Minister-in-Attendance, Dr. Mekondjo Kaapanda-Girnus, Ambassador of the Republic of Namibia to the Kingdom of Belgium & the European Union and other dignitaries at the Hosea Kutako International Airport. This visit signifies an opportunity for Namibia and Belgium to strengthen their bilateral relations and cooperation. During his stay His Majesty will engage in various activities, including laying a wreath at Heroes Acre and visiting the HISA Community Centre in Windhoek, where he will participate in a session on financial literacy and economic empowerment. Celebrating 30 years of Freedom and Democracy in South Africa Hon. Dr. Peya Mushelenga, Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of the Republic of Namibia, on 25 April 2024, attended the High Commission of South Africa’s celebrations to mark the momentous occasion of the 30th Anniversary of Freedom Day of South Africa. In his keynote address, Hon. Dr. Peya Mushelenga commended the post-apartheid bilateral relations between the two countries which have grown from strength to strength since the dawn of independence in Namibia and Freedom in South Africa, with noticeable enhanced cooperation in key areas such Higher Education, Defence, and Health and Social Services. H.E. Thenjiwe Mtintso, High Commissioner of South Africa to Namibia emphasized the close and warm relations between South Africa and Namibia. A relation which is build out of common history of struggle against apartheid and colonialism and entrenched by the common culture and heritage; cemented by strong bonds of bilateral, economic, and political relations between the two respective nations.
