Scattered across the remote North Western corner of Namibia lie (or stand or sit) some 37 stone men (possibly more, possibly less – no-one really knows).  These half-size statues, comprising stone and steel, started appearing a few years ago amidst great secrecy.  The artist prefers to remain anonymous and rumour has it that he/she works on an installation during the dead of night, welding the stone man into position without anyone’s knowledge.

The Namib Desert horse is a feral horse found in the Namib Desert of Namibia. It is the only feral herd of horses residing in Africa, with a population ranging between 90 and 150.

Sperrgebiet was created by the German Empire in the beginning of the 20th century during the German occupation of South-West Africa to allow the Deutsche Diamantengesellschaft, or German Diamond Company, unrestricted access to the vast diamond deposits in the area. After the Germans lost control of the territory to South Africa during World War 1, mining rights were taken over by DeBeers, who had control of the area until the 1990s, when the Namibian government purchased a fifty percent stake.
