Ogun Palliative: A Non-Transparent and Politicized Distribution

The government, both federal and state, faced criticism when they decided to distribute 300,000 bags of rice as a cushion for fuel subsidy in a country where 80% of the population is affected. In a nation lacking accurate data, their distribution plan was unclear.

The Ogun State Government deserves credit for repackaging the rice to reach more vulnerable people, but they went wrong with the distribution method. Personally, I don't believe the Community Development Association (CDA) chairmen were involved, despite their proximity to the people.
Reports from a ward in my local government suggest that party members (APC) were the primary beneficiaries. They received a call from the ward chairman and councilor before the distribution date, with a secret code that guaranteed them access to the palliative. This was in contrast to the public announcements, which seemed dishonest and a waste of time, leading to inhumane treatment.

Furthermore, it's fair to say that state civil servants were the main recipients of the government's palliative, benefiting from a 10,000 relief fund and an additional 10,000 naira salary increase for six months. Meanwhile, unemployed and desperate individuals like me gained nothing from this.

Cleanliness is the key to a sustainable and healthy environment. Ogun X (Twitter) Community took the monthly cleaning exercise to Kuto market today.
