4 Mistakes That Make Serums Less Effective
1. Skipping Exfoliation - exfoliation will not only clean your skin but also help skincare products pe*****te deeper for increased results.
2. Applying products in the incorrect order, apply products in this order: Cleanse - Exfoliate - Tone - Apply serum - Moisturise.
3. Using the wrong application technique - serum is best applied with a gentle parting motion.
4. Combining incompatible ingredients - when mixing serums there is a possibility for the product's ingredients cancelling each other out. Choose a serum that targets a specific skin care concern, or you can use a serum for AM routine and another for PM routine.

SKIN BARRIER

This month our broadcast is about skin barrier. Our skin is our largest organ; the skin is a barrier that protects the body from the elements, injuries and oxidation. The skin also helps the body to adapt to different temperatures, gather sensory information, excrete, absorb.
A healthy and strong skin barrier is the foundation of skin care. Damages to our barrier layer is the cause of many skin problems. Skincare products are very important to the skin's barrier. So what exactly is the skin barrier, what is its purpose, what can damage it and can it be repaired? 🤔
The skin barrier is the outer surface of the skin often described as a brick wall. The skin barrier helps retain and regulate moisture within the skin. Skin barrier is ultimately about hydration we are born with 75% water 💦 and as we age the water reduces. For example have you observed the difference between a child's skin and that of an adult. The difference is clear. Our skin cells need hydration to look radiant and healthy. Basically the skin barrier is responsible for maintaining skin hydration, softness and firmness.
When a skin barrier is damaged or compromised, it loses its suppleness, looks dull, chemicals can easily pe*****te and potentially cause inflammation, may experience dryness, feel tight or uncomfortable. There are various things that can cause a damaged barrier such as over exfoliation, using skincare products that are harsh, using skincare products not formulated for your skin type, extreme weather conditions, stress, genetics, pollution, bleaching, ageing, UV rays.
And YES a damaged barrier can be repaired. One of the skin's most amazing feature is the ability to heal itself. So if your skin barrier is damaged look out for products with these ingredients : Niacinamide, Ceramides, Natural Moisturizing Factors (NMF), Fatty Acids, Glycerin, Hyaluronic Acid, Plant Oils such as jojoba oil, coconut oil, argan oil, rosehip oil, almond oil, soybean oil. One of the ways to protect your skin barrier is by wearing a daily SPF.
Remember your skin is your body's frontline defense, keeping it healthy is much more than a cosmetic concern.
