OXYTOCIN AND BREASTFEEDING

The pituitary gland in the brain creates the hormone oxytocin. Although it serves various purposes in the human body, it is crucial for nursing. Muscle spasms are brought on by it, and it also promotes, relaxation and reduces stress and anxiety. The hormone oxytocin is also important for interpersonal bonds, trust, and love.

Oxytocin is involved in or**sm, and it is essential for breastfeeding. During childbirth, it forces the uterus to contract and push out the baby. Other names for oxytocin include the bonding hormone, the anti-stress hormone, and the hormone of love.

THE IMPORTANCE OF OXYTOCIN IN BREASTFEEDING
Your brain releases oxytocin when you are breastfeeding. After the birth of your child, oxytocin induces your uterus to contract and enables your infant to nurse from your breasts. While some people find breastfeeding difficult, oxytocin causes the let-down reflex and can promote attachment, both of which can make breastfeeding simpler.

THE LET-DOWN REFLEX
The nerve cells in your breasts transmit a signal to your brain to release oxytocin when your baby latches on to nurse and their mouth meets your breasts, particularly your ni***es. The muscles surrounding the milk-producing glands in your breast contract because of oxytocin.

Breast milk is released into the milk ducts when the glands constrict. To allow the breast milk flow through your breast and out of the ni**le to your infant, the milk ducts also compress. The let-down reflex is the term used to describe this milk release. More oxytocin is released as your infant continues to nurse, which causes your breasts to continue to produce milk for your baby.

While nursing, oxytocin is released, which may cause you to feel relaxed and sleepy. While nursing, you could feel warm because it can increase your body temperature. Additionally, it might make you thirsty or perhaps give you a headache.
When you are not breastfeeding, oxytocin may also cause your milk to let down. When you consider nursing or hear your baby cry, you might notice that your breasts start to leak breast milk.
Oxytocin oversees the let-down reflex and the discharge of breast milk from your body but does not determine the volume of milk you will produce. Prolactin is the name of the hormone that affects breast milk production.

BONDING WITH YOUR CHILD
By releasing oxytocin while breastfeeding, you can forge a close emotional connection with your child. The hormone is in charge of the sensations of love that make you want to take care of your child.
Both mom and baby produce oxytocin while breastfeeding and having skin-to-skin contact. Having skin-to-skin contact soon after birth is frequently advised to promote oxytocin release. This improves the likelihood of breastfeeding success by assisting the infant in finding and latching on to the breast and in developing a solid bond.

OXYTOCIN RELEASE AND LACTATION
Due to its role in milk ejection, oxytocin is an essential component of the breastfeeding process. If you have trouble nursing, it's important to consider whether the hormone is being released by your body.

SIGNS OF OXYTOCIN RELEASE
How can you tell if the oxytocin in your body is doing what it's supposed to do? Here are some of the signs you can look for:

* Tingling or a pins-and-needles sensation in your breasts
* Cramping in your uterus when you breastfeed
* Hearing your baby swallow while you're breastfeeding
* Seeing breast milk leaking from your breasts
* Feeling happy and relaxed after you feed your baby

CHALLENGES THAT MAY INTERFERE WITH THE RELEASE OF OXYTOCIN

Some circumstances/challenges can prevent the release of oxytocin, which could make nursing challenging. The release of oxytocin may be hampered if you experience discomfort following the birth of your child, especially if you have a c-section.

Breastfeeding complications might arise from any breast surgery that includes repositioning the ar**la or severing the nerves that surround the ni**le. Your brain must receive a signal from the nerves in your ni**le for oxytocin to be released and milk to start flowing. Any nerve injury there could prevent your milk from being removed from your breasts and interfere with your let-down reflex.
Consumption of alcohol, to***co, low fluid and nutrient intake and psychological state can affect the release of Oxytocin , your let-down reflex, hence making breastfeeding difficult. These factors can prevent your infant from receiving breast milk from your body.

INDUCING OXYTOCIN RELEASE
There are strategies to stimulate oxytocin production and, consequently, milk let-down to help you overcome breastfeeding difficulties if you have issues with oxytocin release. To try, consider the following:
* Cuddle with your baby
* Look at your baby's photo when they are not with you
* Relax your body to reduce stress
* Take a warm shower or apply a warm, moist compress to the breast
* Engage in direct skin-to-skin contact with your baby on your chest
* Gently massage your breasts
* Find a quiet, comfortable area away from distractions
* Avoid alcohol and smoking
* Minimize consumption of dry and cold food

You should take the pain reliever medication your doctor has prescribed if you're in pain. While it might put your infant to sleep a bit, it can make you more at ease and help you start nursing successfully.
A nasal spray called Pitocin, a synthetic version of oxytocin can be prescribed by a doctor to women who are having trouble letting down their milk. It is given just before nursing or pumping to encourage let-down and stimulate milk production. It does not damage the infant or breast milk, although it can give a mother a headache.

OXYTOCIN AND UTERINE CRAMPS
Oxytocin is released during nursing, which causes the uterus to contract. These uterine contractions, which are also known as after-pains, are uncomfortable and resemble menstrual cramps.
After pains, as the name implies, can be quite severe and powerful in the first few days following childbirth. However, these uterine contractions aid in reducing postpartum bleeding and avoiding haemorrhage. They also make it possible for the uterus to return to its regular, non-pregnant size more rapidly.
It's typically safe to breastfeed with a new pregnancy. However, nursing might not be advised during a high-risk pregnancy since oxytocin can trigger contractions. Your doctor might urge you to stop nursing to delay the onset of labour if you are carrying twins or more or have a history of early labour.

LIFELONG DAMAGES CAUSED BY WITCHES AND WIZARDS ON INFANTS AND YOUNG CHILD NUTRITION

Witch crafty or wizardry is an act of manipulation and skillfully luring one into evil. Anyone who specializes in talking mothers or couples away from doing the right things for their babies are not far from being a ‘witch’ or a ‘wizard’. Though, many people out of ignorance and traditions propagate wrong information on infant and young child nutrition. They claim it works not considering the lifelong health damage it brings. What annoys me the most is seeing young speople after being educated on infant nutrition continues to propagate the evil.

See, exclusive breastfeeding is evidenced based. Breast milk excels as the most desirable sources of nutrients for infants. However nutrition of the infant in the first year of life has long term consequences on his/her survival and health throughout life. The first 1000 days of a child (conception to second birthday)is a golden opportunity to determine his/her lifelong health appropriately. The infant who is adequately nourished undergoes a normal rate of physical and mental development. Despite clear evidence that exclusive and continued breastfeeding are key determinant of improved lifelong health for children, women and community, far too few children are breastfed as recommended.

Most women are discouraged from exclusively breastfeeding their babies. They are either ‘bewitched’ by their mothers, mothers in-law aunties, sisters in-law, neighbours or senior friends etc to mix-feed their babies. The damage these people do to the child may have colossal effects on his/her lifelong health. Please I’m begging everyone reading this article to personally search more information on exclusive breastfeeding. No matter your profession get enlightened on exclusive breastfeeding, stop propagating confusion, ignorance and baseless practices that damages the lifelong health status quo of innocent children. Allow the experts to enlighten you and rationally investigate their counsel. Experience is not the best teacher, get facts from experts.

WHO says 3 out of 5 babies are not breastfed in the first hour of life. Nearly 2 out of 3 infants are not exclusively breastfed for the recommended 6 months. And about 80,000 child deaths are reported to be prevented annually when optimal breastfeeding is practiced.

There are numerous disadvantages of formula-feeding and mixed-feeding of infants. They are diarrhea, ear infections, bacterial infection, cancer, sudden infant death syndrome, diabetes, allergy, Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, eyesight, pneumonia, urinary tract infections, necrotizing enterocolitis, celiac disease, dental carries, cognitive development, malnutrition, etc. Some of these damages may never be reversible hence causing a lifelong illness.

However, exclusive breastfeeding gives your infant the cheapest and the best nutrition your child deserves since breast milk contains all nutrients babies need for the first six months of life. It contains the most suitable carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins, minerals and fats in the right proportion and enough water to sustain your baby for the first six months. It helps to stop maternal bleeding, aids child spacing and offers the infant immunological protection against infection amongst several other advantages.

My counsel is that there is no point in repeating the method used for you in feeding your baby after knowing damages such practice may inflict on your baby. Herbal concoctions, mixed-feeding, formula feeding is bait for a lifelong health issues such as kidney disease, liver disease etc. When you are healthy and alive and endowed with the natural food on you, you should have no reason not to exclusively breastfeed your child for the first six months. You can do it; you can wither every ‘witches’ and ‘wizards’ against your success story.

Exclusive breastfeeding is one of the best things in life that should happen to your baby.

𝗢𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗢𝗔𝗥𝗧𝗛𝗥𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗦
Osteoarthritis formally known as degenerative arthritis or degenerative joint disease. It’s the most prevalent form of arthritis. It occurs when the protective cartilage of ends of the bones wears down over time. This condition affects majorly the hands, knees, hips, spine and feet. Study shows that Osteoarthritis primarily affects people of aged 40years and above.

𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗜𝗦 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗖𝗔𝗨𝗦𝗘 𝗢𝗙 𝗢𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗢𝗔𝗥𝗧𝗛𝗥𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗦?
OA happens when the cartilage that cushions the ends of bones in the joints deteriorates and thereby creating severe frictions on both surfaces.
There are lots of factors that can predispose you to OA disease.
Carrying an extra weight may stress your knees, hip or spines. Increase in Body Mass Index above the healthy range increases the risk of KNEE OSTEOARTHRITIS. Excess body fat may also trigger inflammation in or around the joints.
Female s*x are more likely to develop AO
Decreased serum vitamins C and D
OA affects primarily people aged 40 and above
Accident/ joint injury
Genetics factors etc.
𝗦𝗬𝗠𝗣𝗧𝗢𝗠𝗦
Pain, stiffness, swelling, loss of motion, crunching feeling of bone on bone etc

𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗜𝗦 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗢𝗟𝗨𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗧𝗢 𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗦 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗗𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡?
A well-balanced diet that is consistent with established dietary guidelines and promotes attainment and maintenance of a desirable body weight is an important part of Medical Nutrition Therapy for OA. When combined with moderate exercise, diet-induced weight loss has been shown to be an effective intervention for knee OA (Messier et al., 2004).

PEPTIC ULCERS
Peptic – pertaining gastrointestinal tract and Ulcer – an open wound/sore. Therefore PEPTIC ULCER is simply an open sore of the gastrointestinal tract ( majorly the esophagus to the deodenum).

PU is the removal/ erosion of the mucous membrane( a protective substance) of the GIT when there is increase in the amount of HCl acid or decrease in the amount of the mucous. When this occurs the result may range from mild discomfort to a very severe one.

There are three PU based on their site of occurrence.
1. Gastric ulcers ( stomach)
2. Duodenal ulcers ( upper portion of duodenum)
3. Esophageal ulcers(esophagus)

WHAT IS THE CAUSE OF PU?
About four factors are incriminated to be the cause.
1. Mainly from bacteria infection of Helicobacter pylori and excess pepsin secretion.
2. Regular use of some pain relievers (NSAIDs) such as aspirin, ibuprofen, ketoprofen etc.
3. Genetic predisposition.
4. Smoking, alcohol, stress and unhealthy lifestyle may increase the risk.

HOW DO YOU KNOW IF YOU HAVE PU?
Frequent burning sensation at the abdominal region up to the breast bone( upper chest region).
Go for diagnosis to be sure

WHAT IS THE SOLUTION TO THIS CONDITION?
A regular diet with a little modification to hasten wound healing is needed. The diet must be adequate, hygienic and of moderate temperature to achieve an optimum nutritional status. Reduce stress, desist from skipping of meals. Do not eat hurriedly. Eat moderate size meals at reasonable intervals.
Also quit smoking, alcoholic and coffee drinks and colas if possible to achieving an optimum result.

Send a message to get an individualized Medical Nutrition Therapy for your PU or any other disease.

Please help share this post to get to someone who's in dire need of it.

Calories cause weight gain.

Excess carbohydrates are no more fattening than calories from any source.

Despite the claims of low-carb diet books, a high-carbohydrate diet does not promote fat storage by enhancing insulin resistance.

MS is a group of conditions characterized by increased blood pressure, a high blood sugar level, excess body fat especially around the waist and dyslipidaemia. These conditions put together increases the risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes.
If you develop just one of these conditions does not mean you have metabolic syndrome. However , having any of them may increase your risk of some serious diseases.

Diet and exercise are cornerstones of the effective treatment of hyperlipidemia and metabolic syndrome. The ACC/AHA guidelines for lifestyle modifications to reduce CV risk in adults emphasizes intake of:

• vegetables, fruits, and whole grains,
• low-fat dairy products, poultry, fish, legumes, non-tropical vegetable oils, and nuts,
• limit intake of sweets, sugar-sweetened beverages, and red meats(medical nutrition and disease, fifth edition)

There is strong evidence that weight loss, reducing simple carbohydrates at the expense of increasing dietary fiber, eliminating trans fats, restricting fructose and saturated fats, implementing a Mediterranean-style diet, and consuming marine-derived omega-3 PUFA can produce a marked triglyceride-lowering effect ranging between 20 and 50 percent. The AHA recommends 2 to 4 g/ day of EPA plus DHA, provided as capsules under a physician’s care, for patients who need to lower their triglyceride level. This recommendation is based on a large body of evidence showing triglyceride-lowering effects of marine-derived omega-3 PUFA.

Dietary practices or factors that are associated with elevated triglyceride levels include excess body weight, especially visceral adiposity; simple carbohydrates, including added sugars and fructose; a high glycemic load; and alcohol.

Studies show that multiple dietary interventions can result in additive triglyceride-lowering effects.

The magnitude of decrease in triglycerides is directly related to the amount of weight loss. Meta-analyses have reported that for every kilogram of weight loss, triglyceride levels decrease 1.9 percent, or 1.5 mg/dL. A weight loss of 5 to 10 percent results in a 20 percent decrease in triglycerides, a 15 percent reduction in LDL-C, and an 8 to 10 percent increase in HDL-C. The magnitude of decrease in triglycerides is directly related to the amount of weight loss (medical nutrition and disease, fifth edition)

I promised to educate you on how to attend to your diets, body weight etc. I am starting with Myths and Facts of diets today.

Like, Share and ask friends to follow the page to be part of the trainings I will be delivering on this page from today.

One of the common myths is "Fresh fruits and vegetables are healthier than frozen or canned."

Let me shock you that research has shown that frozen and canned foods are as nutritious as fresh. In fact, since lycopene is more easily absorbed in the body after it has been processed, canned tomatoes, corn and carrots are sometimes better nutrition choices.

My advise is that you should be sure the source of such canned foods is verified and does not contain some nutrients or minerals you don't need.

I started a campaign on WhatsApp some months ago on the best way to attain an optimum health status. The caption of the campaign is “better life better health”. The caption was inspired by my wealth of experience and training in the profession of dietetics and nutrition.
The campaign educates people on the importance of living a better life which enhances a better health status. Two clients were beneficiaries of my consultation.
One of the clients presented with peptic ulcer and 1st-degree obesity and the other presented with weight management even though she is not overweight(wants to maintain a perfect weight).
I commenced management on both of them virtually through WhatsApp and in less than two weeks the one with only weight issues 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙤𝙗𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙣 𝙖 𝙙𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙧𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙬𝙚𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙢𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙪𝙧𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙨𝙠𝙞𝙥𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙢𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙙𝙤𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙞𝙧𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙪𝙣𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙩𝙝𝙮 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨. During my course of work and mentoring clients in the area of weight loss and management of several health conditions using diets.
I have heard a lot of funny things that people were told to do in order to lose weight, treat or manage health conditions. There are lots of groups on Facebook and Instagram, even a simple search on google will produce thousands of results on the subject matter but, the truth is that the solutions out there are one size fits all.
Unfortunately, one-size-fits all solution is unethical and does not work for everybody for several reasons. Diet solution that works for A won’t work for B.
Many terrible and unprofessional stuff that untrained and quacks prescribe to you is why I decided to come online to help you by educating you in order to attain and maintain the body weight you desire, treat medical conditions like peptic ulcer, high blood pressure diabetes, kidney disease, stroke, malnutrition, etc.
