Zarah Mamman Ali’s wedding fatiha held today…

The daughter of late Governor of Yobe State Senator Mamman Ali’s wedding Fatiha was held today at the Maitama Abuja residence of her uncle the former Minister of Power H.E. Engr. Abubakar D. Aliyu, CON, FNSE.

Zarah Mamman Ali was married to Ahmad Abdulkadir at the ceremony presided over by Engr. Abubakar D. Aliyu on behalf of the family.

The Governor of Yobe state His Excellency Hon. Mai Mala Buni CON served as Waliyyi of the bride while the Galadima of Gombe was the Wakili of the groom.

Personalities that graced the wedding fatiha include, minister designate Sen. Ibrahim Gaidam, former Minister of Communication and Digital Economy Prof. Sheik Isa Ali Pantami, Prof. Zannah Muhammed Alkali, Dr. Mahmud Halilu MNI (Sarkin Gabas of Adamawa) Barr. Ibrahim Al-Arab, Chief of Staff to the Governor of Yobe state Alh. Abdullahi Yusuf Gashua, former commissioner of finance, Alh. Musa Mohammed and other dignitaries.

Nigeria received delivery of mobile power sub-stations from Siemens Germany. The 10 mobile power substations are part of the Nigeria-Siemens partnership to expand and modernize Nigeria’s power sector. In April 2022 the Honourable Minister of Power Engr. Abubakar D. Aliyu, FNSE visited Germany where he held meetings with the leadership of Siemens to fast-track the delivery and implementation. Nigeria-Siemens power project — which will improve power supply across the country.

Senate supports concession of Zungeru Hydroelectric project - Daily Trust The Senate Committee on power and the ministry of power have agreed on the concession of the 700 Megawatts Zungeru Hydroelectric project.

—Minister charges discos on improved power supply
—Minister met with Niger Governor on resettlement of Zungeru communities

The Senate Committee on Power and the Federal Ministry of Power have agreed that the concession of the 700 Megawatts Zungeru Hydroelectric Power project will go ahead and is in the best interest of the country and should go ahead. Both parties also agreed on the need to carry out massive public enlightenment on the happenings in the power sector.

The Minister of Power Engr. Abubakar D. Aliyu who today appeared before the senate committee on power chaired by Senator Gabriel Suswam pointed out that the Zungeru Hydroelectric dam was financed jointly by China Exim Bank and the Nigerian government, pointing out that all the best practices and regulations have been complied with to ensure that Nigeria is not shortchanged in the concession agreement.

Engr. Abubakar D. Aliyu, also noted that the hydroelectric infrastructure is still owned by the federal government and the concession is only for a period of 30—years. He also said government has been diligently addressing all the challenges facing the Zungeru power project, to make it secure and functional for more electricity supply to meet the energy demands of Nigerians.

Senators who spoke during the hearing supported federal governments various interventions in the power sector. On his part, Senator Adamu Aliero said that the concession is in the best interest of Nigerians.

Both the minister of power and senators also agree that there should be more enlightenment on the power value chain, to appreciate the huge investment going on in the sector.

Also today, the Minister of Power Engr. Abubakar D. Aliyu today challenged electricity distribution companies to improve their performance by ensuring that customers are at the centre of their services. He added that because of the importance of electricity, government will continue to support the electricity distribution companies to ensure that Nigeria and Nigerians enjoy stable electricity supply.

The minister stated this today while addressing managing directors of the eleven electricity distribution companies during a meeting summoned to addressing growing concerns of Nigerians on power supply.

Engr. Abubakar D. Aliyu also urged the electricity distribution companies to focus on improving their facilities and services to their customers.

Earlier, in the week the minister met with the governor of Niger state Abubakar Sani Bello where they discussed issues relating to settlements for communities affected by the Zungeru hydroelectric power project.

MO/TCN REVENUE DRIVE:
MINISTERIAL INTERVENTION

The Market Operator - Transmission Company of Nigeria wishes to announce that it is set to reconnect, at midnight today (1st May 2023), the three Distribution Companies earlier disconnected from the Electricity power grid as a result of non compliance with the Market Rules. This is coming at the intervention of the Hon. Minister of Power, Engr Aliyu, who has considered the collateral consequences on the paying Disco Customers.

These Suspended & Disconnected defaulting Market Participants will be reconnected to the National Grid at the instance of the Honourable Minister of Power.

The intervention by the Honorable Minister of Power has automatically prolonged the grace period to 60 days from this publication.

All Market defaulters should comply with the provisions of the Market Rules with respect to payment of their outstanding invoices, posting of adequate Bank Guarantees (BG), and forwarding of their active Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) as the case may be, to the Market Operator/TCN.

It should be noted that other defaulters who are yet to be Suspended/Disconnected should cure their defaults within this sixty (60) days. At the expiration of this grace period, the Market Operator will resume sanctions in line with the Market Rules.

The MO/TCN is hereby urging the erring Discos to seize this opportunity to fix their defaults as we applaud the intervention of the Honorable Minister of Power.

3. The Minister was also in Nguru on condolence visit to the family of Alhaji Bala Salihu Bakabe who died recently. Aliyu, FNSE received on courtesy visit the team of UK Nigeria Infrastructure Advisory (UKNAIF) lead by the Managing Director Prof. Chidiebere Onyia. During the visit the the Power Team lead Mr. Frank Edozie made presentation on various power sector programmes and interventions of UKNAIF — which partners with Nigerian government to improve the delivery and management of infrastructure.

2. The Honourable Minister also received on courtesy visit the Ambassador of Egypt to Nigeria H.E. Ihab Awab. The meeting today is also a follow up to the Minister’s official visit to Egypt in January. Nigeria and Egypt made commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation in the areas of electricity and renewable energy.
