According to the WHO, the increasing prevalence of diabetes is largely caused by the increasing prevalence of obesity and physical inactivity.

Deaths from diabetes increased by 70% globally between 2000 and 2019.

Diabetes is a major cause of blindness, kidney failure, heart attacks, stroke and lower limb amputation.

One in two adults with type 2 diabetes is unaware of their condition.

Some tips to prevent diabetes:
* Control your weight
* Exercise daily at least 30mins
* Eat healthy and avoid sugary drinks and highly processed foods
* Avoid smoking 🚬
* Drink little or no alcohol

World Patient Safety Day focuses on raising awareness and ensuring that patient safety is recognised as an international health priority.

The theme for this year’s World Patient Safety Day is ‘Medication Without Harm’.

Medication harm accounts for 50% of the overall preventable harm in medical care (WHO, 2022).

Reducing medication-related harm is a priority and this year, the one of the WHO objectives is to raise global awareness of the high burden of medication-related harm due to medication errors and unsafe practices and advocate urgent action to improve medication safety.

Please take your medications as prescribed by your doctor and avoid self-medication. Visit your health provider for all health-related issues.
