Types of concrete cracking
Here are some types of cracks in reinforced concrete:
1. 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐬𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐬: These cracks are often shallow, irregular. They occur when the concrete is still in its plastic state and is drying too quickly.
2. 𝐃𝐫𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐬: These are hairline cracks that run parallel to each other and can occur anywhere in the concrete as it dries and shrinks.
3. 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐬: This type of cracks is caused by temperature changes in the concrete. Extreme heat or cold can cause the concrete to expand or contract, resulting in cracks.
4. 𝐒𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠: These occur when the soil beneath the concrete settles or shifts, causing the concrete to crack and become uneven.
5. 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐬: These are cracks that occur due to overloading or inadequate design or poor materials or poor construction, in this case the applied loads exceed the capacity of the concrete to resist. Structural cracks typically exceed 0.3 mm, and may continue to widen over time. Structural cracks may include: Shear cracks, Flexural cracks, Shear/flexural cracks, Torsion cracks.
6. 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐬: These are cracks caused by expansion of the reinforcement steel inside the concrete due to corrosion.
7. 𝐂𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐬 𝐝𝐮𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐀𝐥𝐤𝐚𝐥𝐢-𝐚𝐠𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 (𝐀𝐀𝐑): This is a chemical reaction that occurs between the alkaline cement paste and certain types of aggregates in the concrete, resulting in a gel-like substance that can cause expansion and cracking over time. AAR can include alkali-silica reaction (ASR) and alkali-carbonate reaction (ACR). —

5 TIPS TO CONTINUE BUILDING WHILE COST OF MATERIALS KEEPS INCREASING

1) Open building materials accounts

Think of this like lay-by but for building materials, you commit a certain amount to a company selling construction materials and that company will hold the price for a certain period of months for you, for example here at Stonecites we offer building blocks accounts, we will hold the price of building blocks for a maximum of 6 months.

2) Hire necessary labour

Lets face it some of the works we hire labour for, we can do it ourselves, maximum utilization of weekends is key.

3) Consider Alternative Materials

Nowadays to every material they is almost an alternative as more competing companies have come up and usually alternative materials are mostly cheaper.

4) Buy Dynamically

if you can afford to buy more materials at once the better you never know the price of those materials tomorrow.

5) Avoid complicated designs

building a house comes on top of other expenses, if you are renting, rent has to continue, children have to continue going to school, if not handled well, building can led to alot of stress. So a simple design is often the best moreover the most important function of a house is to provide shelter.

If your bathroom or toilet is tiled- Please Carefully Read 📖 this piece and also share to save lives

1. When your phone rings, never be in haste to pick up. No matter how important the call is, even if it is a million dollar worth of call. Let your phone ring, you can always call back after you leave the bathroom.

2. Get a different type of tiles for your bathroom. Tilers can help you. Avoid smooth tiles. If what you have is a smooth tiles, change it ASAP!

3. Get bathroom slippers. There are slippers for bathroom. Not the random slippers you wear in your streets. These slippers are designed in such a way that when you step in them, it grips the floor.

4. Avoid raising one leg in the attempt of washing and scrubbing it. This particular one has sent many people to their early grave. If you need to scrub your legs, bend down with your legs gripped to the floor or sit in your bath tub to wash your legs.

5. Avoid your bathroom from getting wet at all times. For those who have their WATER-CLOSET combined with the shower/ bath tub. Don’t spill water everywhere in the name of bathing.

6. There is nothing so important in the world when you are in the bathroom. No running. Walk gently.

6. Get a towel. A towel same size just as the one you use in drying your body or even bigger. Place at the entrance of your bathroom. It is wise to always dry your feet before moving out to any other part of the house.

7. If you have kids below 7, never let them in the bathroom alone. As in, never!

8. Don’t take your phone in. Either you are bathing or you are not. Do not go in with your phone. Your Phone is a big distraction.

9. Wash your face separately. You must not have soap on your face while you are also washing other part of your body. Important to have your eyes open at all times.

10. Do not dance. Many are guilty of this. PLEASE STOP IT!
