Justice Walk for Iyanda: FESSU Makes Demands to Ekiti State Govt, Ekiti House of Assembly, Pays Condolence Visit to Deceased Family, Ologotun Palace, Igbara-Odo/Ogotun LCDA Leaders.

In follow up to the tragic incident involving the loss of life of Iyanda Damilola, a recent graduate and serving Corps member, and the brutal assault on his brother, Iyanda Oluwafemi, a student, both from Ekiti State, the Federation of Ekiti State Students Union (FESSU), led by Comrade Benjamin Adekunle Onileowo, has taken a bold stance for justice and accountability.

The union led the students of the state in a Justice Walk to demand immediate action from the Ekiti State Government and House of Assembly. During the demonstration, Comrade Benjamin Onileowo addressed the Speaker, Rt. Hon Stephen Adeoye Aribasoye, and Honourable members at the Ekiti State House of Assembly in Ado-Ekiti, unequivocally condemning the egregious act of police brutality. He demanded swift and unequivocal justice for the victims and stressed the importance of a comprehensive and urgent investigation to hold those responsible accountable for their actions.

Comrade Benjamin Onileowo also appealed for adequate compensation for the bereaved family and urged the government to collaborate with their counterparts in Oyo State, where the tragic incident occurred due to the misconduct of a police officer attempting to extort the victim who went for his brother's convocation ceremony. He advocated for the swift release of the deceased Corps member's remains for dignified burial and comprehensive treatment for his gunshot-inflicted brother, Oluwafemi.

In reaction, the Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Adeoye Stephen Aribasoye, condoled with the family of the deceased and students of Ekiti State, condemned the senseless killing and brutal assault, and assured the Students and the good people of Ekiti State that the Government of Ekiti State and the House of Assembly will do everything within their capacities to ensure justice and meet the demands of the students union.

Following the Justice Walk, Comrade Benjamin Onileowo and his team paid condolences to the family of the deceased in Ogotun-Ekiti, their hometown, and visited the Palace of Ologotun of Ogotun, Oba Adebayo Adesanmi Atewogboye II, as well as the council leaders of the Igbara-Odo/Ogotun LCDA under the leadership of Chairperson Hon. Bukola Olowolaju, to express solidarity with the community during their time of mourning.

Addressing the press in Ado-Ekiti, National President Comrade Benjamin Onileowo reaffirmed FESSU's unwavering solidarity with the grieving family and all students of Ekiti State. He pledged the union's relentless pursuit of justice and accountability in cases of police misconduct, emphasizing the importance of preventing such tragic incidents from recurring.

The Justice Walk and subsequent actions by FESSU underscore the determination of Ekiti students to stand up for justice and support those affected by acts of violence and brutality anywhere in the country.

We are pleased to announce that our efforts have resulted in the state government announcing the availability of Bursary and Scholarship funds for students and *that the website has been rectified.* This achievement is a testament to the hard work of our President and the entire union.

We would like to request your kind assistance in spreading the word about the availability of Bursary and Scholarship funds to all students in your respective institutions. We believe that every student should have the opportunity to take advantage of this, and your cooperation is greatly appreciated.

As per this notice, all Chapters President are directed to coordinate the application process for students in their institutions and send the applications together to the National Executive Council of the union via the National General Secretary or National Public Relations Officer for final submission and follow-up.

EKITI STATE STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS AND BURSARIES

The leadership of the Federation of Ekiti State Students Union (FESSU) met with the Ekiti State Scholarship Board on Friday, 5th May 2023 to discuss the challenges facing students in applying for scholarships and bursaries. It is worth noting that the President of the union had been in communication with the board before this time, which resulted in the advertisement of bursaries and scholarships for the students.

During the meeting, FESSU representatives highlighted the issue of the application link not working properly. Additionally, the need for a more modular approach to the application process was discussed in order to make it easier for students to apply from their comfort zone.

The Ekiti State Scholarship Board has promised to work closely with FESSU to address these challenges and to develop an efficient and effective application process that meets the needs of students.

The National President, Comrade Abel Adewale AJIBADE, expressed his gratitude to the State Governor, H.E Biodun Oyebanji, for responding to the call of the the union's leadership for these education schemes. He also thanked the Ekiti State Scholarship Board for their continued support of the students' union.

The Federation of Ekiti State Students Union has joined the Muslim Community in the State in celebrating this year's Eid-al-fitri, call for renewed commitment towards peaceful coexistence and unity among all religious groups in the State.

The Union calls on all students in the State to use this occasion to promote unity and understanding among people of different faiths.

"As we celebrate Eid-al-Fitri, it is important to reflect on the values of Ramadan, which include self-discipline, sacrifice, and charity. These values are essential for building a peaceful and prosperous society where everyone can thrive."

*EKITI STATE STUDENTS: PICK THE LESSONS OF EASTER CELEBRATION TO YOUR DAILY ACTIVITIES - FESSU NATIONAL PRESIDENT CHARGES*

The National President of the Federation of Ekiti State Students Union, Comrade Abel Adewale AJIBADE extends warm greetings to all Christian and Ekiti State Students celebrating Easter, use this occasion of the Easter celebration to urge all students in the state to pick the lessons of Easter and apply them to their daily activities.

The Easter season resonates with values such as love, sacrifice, and compassion - which are essential for building a better society.
