The Contentment Code: Unlocking a Happy and Fulfilling Marriage

One big issue with marriages and homes that I have observed, is contentment. It is a strong pillar. It's presence or absence in either or both of the parties involved in a marriage is pivotal to the sustenance of the home.

In my first language, Contentment literally translates 'this is okay by me'

Being content in your marriage isn't about being stuck or basic - it's about being lowkey satisfied with your partner and highkey committed to each other.
Like, Paul said in 1 Timothy 6:6, 'Godliness with contentment is great gain.' We should understand that to have merely our necessities is to have enough. When you're content, you're not constantly scrolling through your options or comparing your bae to others. You're good, I mean, you're comfortable, knowing your partner's got your back and you're rocking this thing called life together.

As Myles Munroe said, "The greatest wealth is not in what you possess, but in what you are." When you're content in your marriage, you're not chasing external validation or material possessions - you're rich in love, trust, and commitment.

In Hebrews 13:5, it's real talk when it says, in paraphrase, "Don't be thirsty for money or material things, and be content with what you got, 'cause God's got your back, always." Same vibe in your marriage - when you're content, you're not looking for external validation or seeking thrills outside your relationship. You're solid in your love and commitment, and that's where the real happiness and fulfillment come from.

As Dr. Steve Maraboli said, "A great relationship doesn't happen because of who you find, it happens because of who you are." When you're content in your marriage, you're not trying to change your partner - you're growing together, learning from each other, and becoming the best versions of yourselves.

Dr. Gary Chapman, author of The 5 Love Languages, puts it this way: "Love is a choice, and it's a choice we make every day. When we choose to love, we choose to prioritize our partner's needs, to communicate effectively, and to show love in ways that matter most to them."

So, let's aim to be content in our marriages, like Paul said in Philippians 4:12-13, "I've been in the struggle, and I've been blessed - and I've learned to be content in any situation." When we're content, we're free to love each other hard, without the extra drama or stress. And as Myles Munroe said, "When you are content, you are not desperate, and when you are not desperate, you are not vulnerable to manipulation." Let's choose contentment, and build marriages that are rock-solid, and totally on fire!
