"And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment" – Hebrews 9:27 (NKJV)

We will all die at some point and there is a judgment seat waiting for all of us. The question is will it be the bema seat or the Great White Throne? If you are in Christ you will not see the Great White Throne. This should not only make you rejoice this should also motivate you to want to share the gospel. Your desire should be to help as many people as possible to escape this Great White Throne Judgment. This is what Jesus has called us to do. Hopefully being reminded of final judgment will inspire us all to do more for the sake of the gospel and the sake of those who do not know Jesus as Savior. Not prosperity teaching that is taking priority in most ministries today. The Bible says, seek ye the kingdom of God first and its righteousness and EVERY other things sill be added unto it.

SGBC WELCOMES YOU TO TODAY'S LECTURE

Text: Galatians 3:26–28

Topic: In Christ Jesus we are all children of God through faith.

Intro.

Why did Paul say the gospel brings salvation to the Jew first and then the Gentile?

In Romans 1:16 Paul writes, “I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.” The gospel is intended for all people. But, chronologically, the gospel message was first revealed to the Jewish people before it was revealed to the Gentiles (non-Jewish people).

The Jews are God’s chosen people (Deuteronomy 7:6–7). Through the Jews, God demonstrated His love and holiness to the world: “Theirs is the adoption to sonship; theirs the divine glory, the covenants, the receiving of the law, the temple worship and the promises. Theirs are the patriarchs, and from them is traced the human ancestry of the Messiah” (Romans 9:4–5). It was through the seed of Abraham that “all peoples on earth will be blessed” (Acts 3:25; cf. Genesis 22:18; 26:4). That promised blessing came through Jesus Christ, as explained in Galatians 3:16. Jesus was born as a Jew under the Law, fulfilled the Jewish Law perfectly, and died as a once-for-all sacrifice on behalf of all who would put their faith in Him (Galatians 4:4–5; Hebrews 9:14–15, 23–28).

In His public ministry, Jesus spoke of being sent to the Jews, and He focused His efforts on them. He was the Jewish Messiah, and He had come, in part, to “strengthen Judah and save the tribes of Joseph” (Zechariah 10:6). On one occasion, Jesus seemed to rebuff the pleas of a Gentile woman who he later helped in Matthew 15:21–28. Also in Matthew 10:5 Jesus predicted that “repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in Christ’s name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem” (Luke 24:47). The gospel of the kingdom was to be a blessing to the whole world, but it was natural that it be first proclaimed to Israel.

When Paul speaks of the gospel bringing salvation “first to the Jew” in Romans 1:16, he alludes to the special relationship the Jews had to the Messiah. The Christ was the Son of David, and the hope of the Messiah had long been held by the Jews Luke 2:38. So, when the gospel of Christ was first proclaimed, the Jews had priority. We see this prioritization in Paul’s first missionary journey. Every time they would come to a new city, Paul and Barnabas would preach in the synagogue to the Jews in that city. In Pisidian Antioch, they were so opposed by the unbelieving Jews that the missionaries said, “We had to speak the word of God to you first. Since you reject it and do not consider yourselves worthy of eternal life, we now turn to the Gentiles” (Acts 13:46). The persecution in Antioch continued, and Paul and Barnabas were eventually expelled, so they went to the next town (verse 51).

There are several important things to note about Paul’s statement that the power of God in the gospel “brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.” First, God did not cease saving Jews in order to save Gentiles. In all of his missionary journeys, Paul continued to preach first in the synagogues. God continues to desire the salvation of all the world (John 3:16–18; 1 Timothy 2:4).

Second, Jews are neither better nor worse than Gentiles. All need the Savior, and, in Christ, all are on equal spiritual footing. Colossians 3:10–11 reminds us we “have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator. Here there is no Gentile or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all.” The believing Gentile is just as welcome in the family of God as the believing Jew. The Jew who has faith in Christ Jesus is just as secure in his salvation as the born-again Gentile.

Finally, salvation comes the same way to both Jews and Gentiles. It is for “everyone who believes” (Romans 1:16). Jesus is the only way of salvation (Acts 4:12; John 14:6) regardless of one’s heritage. Paul said, “I have declared to both Jews and Greeks that they must turn to God in repentance and have faith in our Lord Jesus” (Acts 20:21). Galatians 3:26–28 says, “So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” All must come to Jesus in faith for salvation, and all are equally accepted by Him when they do. Both Jews and the Gentiles will face judgement.

Time Satan Loves To Attacks the Believers Matthew 4:1-11

Though the Devil may attack at any time, he will always do it when he thinks it is to his advantage. We see this method, time and time again, in the Scriptures.

1. After A Great Spiritual Experience

We find that Jesus was attacked by Satan right after His baptism.

And when Jesus had been baptized, just as He came up from the water, suddenly the heavens were opened to Him and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on Him. And a voice from heaven said, "This is My Son, the Beloved, with whom I am well pleased." Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the Devil (Matthew 3:16,17;4:1)

This should teach us a lesson. After a great spiritual experience we should be ready for spiritual attacks from the enemy.

2. At The Beginning Of A New Spiritual Endeavor

Satan also will attack when someone is beginning a new spiritual quest. Right after Jesus was attacked by the Devil, He began His public ministry.

From that time Jesus began to proclaim, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near" (Matthew 4:17).

Knowing Jesus was about to begin His ministry, Satan attacked Him.

3. When Believers Are Physically Vulnerable

We also find Satan coming when believers are in a weak position - either physically or emotionally. Jesus was attacked after He had fasted for forty days.

He fasted forty days and forty nights, and afterwards He was famished. The tempter came and said to Him, "If indeed You are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread" (Matthew 4:2,3).

4. When A Believer Is Alone

We also find Satan attacking when people are alone.

Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the Devil (Matthew 4:1).

5. From An Unexpected Source

Often times Satan will attack us from an unexpected source - someone from whom we do not think. After Jesus had told His disciples that He was going to Jerusalem to die and then be raised the third day, He was rebuked from an unexpected source.

And Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, "God forbid it, Lord! This must never happen to You." But He turned and said to Peter, "Get behind Me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to Me; for you are setting your mind not on divine things but on human things" (Matthew 16:22-23).

This is an unfortunate occurrence, but it happens too often. Satan comes to the believer through the sin of another believer. These are the attacks that hurt the most.

6. Satan Always Comes Back And Attacks Again

After Satan attacks a believer and then leaves, he always returns again.

When the Devil had finished every test, he departed from Him (Jesus) until an opportune time (Luke 4:13).

Though the believer may win a temporary victory over the Devil in their spiritual battle, Satan will return to fight at another time.

Remember We Are Victorious

Though Satan does attack, and sometimes entices believers to fall into sin, ultimately we are victorious through Christ. This is the promise of God! The Apostle Paul declared.

The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and save me for His heavenly kingdom. To Him be the glory forever and ever. Amen (2 Timothy 4:18).

Summary

We should be well-aware of the various ways in which Satan works. He attacks believers when he thinks it will be to his advantage. This includes the time after a great spiritual experience, or right before someone is going to begin a new spiritual venture. He also attacks when believers are vulnerable either physically and/or mentally. Satan also likes to attack believers when they are alone.

Christians, therefore, must always be on guard because Satan is seeking who he may devour.

1 Peter 5:8
Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
