Incorporating healthy snacks into your daily meals is important for several reasons:

🍌🍎Healthy snacks provide a source of sustained energy throughout the day, helping to prevent energy dips and fatigue between meals.

🍏🍐 Nutrient Intake: Snacking on nutritious foods allows you to increase your daily intake of essential nutrients, such as vitamins, minerals, and fiber.

🍞🥐 Blood Sugar Regulation: Well-balanced snacks can help stabilize blood sugar levels, reducing the risk of overeating during main meals and preventing sugar crashes.

🍟🥨 Weight Management: Smart snacking can aid in weight management by preventing excessive hunger and overeating at mealtimes. It also helps control portion sizes.

🍕🍔 Improved Mood and Focus: Nutrient-rich snacks can enhance mood and cognitive function, helping you stay alert and focused throughout the day.

🌮🍝🍲🍗 Curbing Unhealthy Cravings: Healthy snacks can satisfy cravings and reduce the temptation to reach for unhealthy, high-calorie options.

Digestive Health: Snacking on fiber-rich foods like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains can support good digestion and prevent constipation.

🍖🍗🥩 Muscle Recovery: After exercise, a protein-rich snack can aid in muscle recovery and repair.

🧊💧 Hydration: Snacks like fruits and vegetables contain water, contributing to your daily hydration needs.

🌽🥬🥒 Dietary Diversity: Including a variety of healthy snacks in your diet ensures you benefit from a wide range of nutrients and flavors.

Remember that the key to reaping the benefits of healthy snacking is making mindful choices, such as opting for fruits, vegetables, nuts, yogurt, and whole grains instead of processed or high-sugar snacks.

WHAT IS HIGH PROLACTIN ❓High prolactin is a health condition that can prevent a woman from getting pregnant.

( Breast Discharge )

It is mostly due to hormonal changes. It can come up as a result of a chronic urinary tract infection or a chronic sexually transmitted infection or an abortion.

If prolactin levels are higher than normal, it often means there is a type of tumor of the pituitary gland, known as a prolactinoma.

This tumor makes the gland produce too much prolactin.

HONEY OR SUGAR?

Most times I get this question, especially from my diabetic clients, if honey is a better substitute for sugar....

Let’s talk about it.....

Honey is derived from bees 🐝, which uses the nectar of flowers to make honey. It contains water, about 30%glucose and 40% fructose with minimal amount of nutrients - vitamins and minerals and antioxidant. Flavonoid is the antioxidant it contains which is known for its anti-inflammatory properties, that shows why it is used in medicine- for cough, wound healing etc

Sugar on the other hand is derived from sugar cane and sugar beet plants. It has 50% glucose and 50% fructose. It’s processing method makes it devoid of nutrients. The most common types of sugar used in our society is white sugar and brown sugar. White sugar is more refined than brown sugar, while brown sugar is combination of white sugar and molasses. This molasses contains few nutrients too.

Now the important part of this write up, which among them is better?

Believe me when I tell you none is better over another! They are both sweeteners and research has shown that honey has more CALORIES than sugar but has a LOWER GLYCEMIC INDEX than sugar. In a tablespoon of sugar, is 16 calories, while that of honey is 64 calories according to USDA food composition table. They both can predispose one to obesity, diabetes and heart diseases if abused. The nutrients in honey is of minimum amount and less than 1% of the reference daily intake according to USDA food composition table. Both are not good for infants less than 1 year of age especially honey, which can cause BOTULISM in infants.

If you are confused on which to include in your menu and the amount to take in a day, consult us to make it suit your health and avoid its ill-effect when abused!

Can You Eat Eggs If You Have Diabetes?

Eggs are a versatile food and a great source of protein. As healthy as they are in so many ways, eggs should be consumed in moderation.

Eggs got a bad rap years ago because they were considered to be too high in cholesterol to be part of a healthy diet. A lot has changed since then. The role of dietary cholesterol as it relates to a person’s total blood cholesterol count appears to be smaller than previously thought.

Family history may have much more to do with your cholesterol levels than how much dietary cholesterol is in your food. The bigger threat to your cholesterol levels is fo od that is high in trans fats and saturated fats.

Eggs still shouldn’t be consumed in excess if you have diabetes. The current recommendations suggest that an individual with diabetes should consume no more than 200 milligrams (mg) of cholesterol each day. Someone without diabetes or heart health concerns may consume up to 300 mg per day. One large egg has about 186 mg of cholesterol. There isn’t much room for other dietary cholesterol once that egg is eaten.

Research suggests that high levels of egg consumption may raise the risk of developing type 2 diabetes and heart disease. While the connection isn’t clear, researchers believe that excessive cholesterol intake, when it comes from animal foods, may increase those risks.

Since all of the cholesterol is in the yolk, you can eat egg whites without worrying about how they’re affecting your daily consumption of cholesterol. Keep in mind, however, that the yolk is also the exclusive home of some key egg nutrients. Almost all the vitamin A in an egg, for instance, resides in the yolk. The same is true for most of the choline, omega-3s, and calcium in an egg.

If you have diabetes, you should limit egg consumption to three eggs a week. If you only eat egg whites, you can feel comfortable eating more. Be careful though, about what you eat with your eggs. One relatively harmless and healthy egg can be made a little less healthy if it’s fried in butter or unhealthy cooking oil.

Poaching an egg in the microwave only takes one minute and doesn’t need any additional fat. Likewise, don’t serve eggs with high-fat, high-sodium bacon or sausage very often. A hard-boiled egg is a handy high-protein snack if you have diabetes. The protein will help keep you full without affecting your blood sugar. Protein not only slows digestion, it also slows glucose absorption. This is very helpful if you have

AVOCADO
Avocado oil is the healthiest oil in the world and its nutritional value is much higher than other edible oils.

Most edible oils come from the seeds of plants, while avocado oil comes from the pulp of plants.
