Paint types
There are two main types of paints used today for most home renovation projects:

Alkyd or oil-based paints and stains
Oil-based paints, as the name implies, contain either an organic or synthetic oil as their base. However, oil-based paints have several drawbacks, including that they take longer to dry, give off a strong odor when applied, and require mineral spirits for cleanup.

Paint finishes
Paints and stains come in five different finishes or sheens:

Flat or matte
Flat or matte paint doesn't reflect light. Because of that, it hides surface defects like nail pops, patches, and seams. That makes it an ideal finish for a ceiling, closet, finished basement, or garage. Some drawbacks, however, are that flat finishes scuff easily and can damage if cleaned with a cleanser.

Eggshell
Eggshell, as the name implies, has a similar sheen to an egg. It's one of the most popular finishes for main living areas such as a hallway, living room, entryway, or family room. Eggshell paints are more washable than flat/matte finishes and also more resistant to stains and scuff marks.

Wallpaper made its way over to Europe in the 15th century with “domino” prints, or designs made with woodblocks and colored by hand. (The book Wallpaper: A History explains that the name “domino” was likely a mash-up of two Latin terms: dominus, classic Latin for God the Father; and mamino, colloquial Latin for either the Virgin Mary or mothers generally.) Domino wallpapers initially depicted political or devotional images, later branching out to include designs made of geometric shapes. Part of their appeal came from the fact that they were a cheaper alternative to tapestries—concealing cracks and improving insulation for less money than woven wall coverings. Often, they resembled other, more expensive materials: leather, brocade, wood. Flock wallpaper, a type made to resemble cut velvet, enjoyed widespread popularity beginning in the 1600s. WHAT IS EMOTION PAINTS?

Emulsion paint consists of tiny polymer particles within which the pigments are trapped. The particles are suspended in water, then as the paint dries the particles fuse together creating a film of paint on the wall. Once this happens the polymer can’t be resuspended in water, which is why you can’t wash a water-based emulsion paint back off the wall once it has dried.
