‘Do’ God’s Word.

‘God will bless you for doing it.’ James 1:25.

Dr David Jeremiah tells of a well-known seminary professor who spent a summer studying in Jerusalem. In his apartment building lived an orthodox Jewish rabbi with whom he studied Hebrew throughout the summer. One day the professor sat and listened to his Jewish friend recite the entire book of Psalms, in Hebrew, without missing so much as a jot or tittle. Now that’s pretty impressive, right?

But God doesn’t bless you for merely reading His Word, or memorising it, or even being able to repeat it word for word in the original languages. God only promises to bless those who ‘do’ what His Word says. Reading your Bible without putting it into practice is like going into a good restaurant and eating the menu while ignoring the meal.

‘Don’t just listen to God’s Word
do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. For if you listen to the Word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.’ (James 1:22–25 NLT)

One of the dangers of enjoying great preaching is that you can enjoy it and go home intellectually or emotionally moved but spiritually unchanged. The knowledge of God’s Word is vitally important. But a ‘head knowledge’ of the Scriptures can actually water a root of spiritual pride in your heart whereby you applaud the Scriptures but don’t apply them. So the word for today is—‘do’ God’s Word!

Dealing With Fear (1).

‘The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?’ Psalm 118:6.

During the Great Depression unemployment hit 25 percent of the American population. Savings accounts were wiped out by bank failures, farmers lost their land to repossessions, and people were having trouble just feeding their families. During this dark time Franklin Delano Roosevelt addressed the nation in these words: ‘Let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself—nameless, unrea*oning, unjustified terror which paralyses needed efforts to convert retreat into advance.’

What most people didn’t realise is that the president himself had experienced some dark hours during which fear paralysed him. Roosevelt was born a child of privilege and educated in Europe, at Harvard, and at Columbia Law School. But at age thirty-nine, he was stricken with a case of polio that left him severely disabled. During his recovery he developed an extreme fear of fire. He worried he wouldn’t be able to escape because of his disability. But in time he overcame his fear, regained the use of his hands, and even learned to walk again with the aid of braces. He re-entered the political arena—fearlessly campaigning to become the governor of New York, which he did in 1929. He then went on to become one of America’s greatest presidents and guided the nation to victory in World War II. In his memoirs Roosevelt recalls how when he turned to God for help, courage, and guidance, he received them.

Are you afraid today? If you are, stand on this promise: ‘The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?’

Shun Unhealthy Self-Focus (5)

Fri, 27 Nov 2020

‘Is this the kind of fast I have chosen?’ Isaiah 58:5

God never commanded you to examine your emotions, experiences, or sins. What He did say is, ‘Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!’ (John 1:29 NASB) Victory over sin comes from focusing on Christ—not beating yourself up! In the Old Testament the Israelites reached a place of despair.

They’d fasted and ‘afflicted’ their souls, yet God ignored their efforts. They sought spiritual restoration in their own self-directed way, and God rejected it, saying: ‘Is this the kind of fast I have chosen
 for people to humble themselves
bowing one’s head like a reed
in sackcloth and ashes? Is that
acceptable to the Lord?’ Clearly, God is not pleased with the misery that comes from self-focus! He has a more effective way to liberate us.

Rather than have us weighed down with remorse, He said: ‘Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice
 set the oppressed free
 break every yoke
share your food with the hungry
provide the poor wanderer with shelter—when you see the naked, to clothe them, and not
turn away from your own flesh and blood?’ (Isaiah 58:6–7 NIV)

God’s way eliminates the ‘paralysis of self-analysis’ by commanding you to forget about yourself completely; to stop dwelling on your imperfections and get involved in the lives and needs of others. His four-point plan for overcoming your flesh is:

(1) Acknowledge His grace and see yourself as ‘righteous’ in Christ.

(2) Fix your eyes on Jesus.

(3) Shun obsessive self-focus.

(4) Serve God by serving others.

When you do all these things, ‘Your light will rise in the darkness
The Lord will guide
 and
 strengthen you.’ (Isaiah 58:10–11 NIV)

‘The Higher Things’!

Thu, 29 Oct 2020

‘Set your minds and keep them set on what is above.’ Colossians 3:2 AMPC

The Bible says, ‘Set your minds and keep them set on what is above (the higher things), not on the things that are on the earth.’ There are many things that happen in this world which can easily affect our mind and emotions, and we need to learn how to rise above them. When negative thoughts are building up and trying to take control of our emotions, we need to take a few minutes to ‘set our minds and keep them set’ on ‘the higher things’.

It often helps to speak positively about whatever is bothering you. For example, have a chat with yourself that goes something like this: ‘My family may not be everything I’d like it to be, but I’m thankful I have a family. My house may not be as nice as I’d like it to be, but it’s still a good place to live. I might be going through a difficult time right now, but Jesus is with me and He’s going to get me through it.’ The devil knows which of your buttons to push to get an emotional reaction. So what should you do?

Stand on God’s Word: ‘Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) is the man whom You discipline
 instruct
and teach out of Your law, that You may give him power to keep himself calm in the days of adversity.’ (Psalm 94:12–13 AMPC) The more you discipline yourself to say no to your feelings and yes to the wisdom of God, the easier it becomes to defeat the enemy in a spiritual tug-of-war. So decide today that you won’t arrange your life around unreliable emotions, and focus instead on ‘the higher things’!

Please tell church members, friends, colleagues and neighbours. You would be surprised how many people are living illegally that you thought are legal in the country. A lot of people see it as stigma so they don't talk about it unless you are a confidant to them. SPREAD THE NEWS PLEASE. Thanks.

Put your kids in schools you can afford (expensive schools doesn’t guarantee good results) Just ensure they attend a good affordable school.

Rent apartments you can pay for conveniently, don’t live in a house you struggle to pay yearly.

A man whose wife is pregnant has good 9 months to prepare, so also is the pregnant woman in question. They should even plan for the worse and only seek help when they can’t meet up.

Some problems in our lives don’t just pop up, 12 months ago, we knew we would pay rents... So its not an emergency...

Let’s plan our lives and live within our means.Save more and spend less, some women buy food for their children every morning before going to school, do you know it’s cheaper to cook at home? Some buy every a*o ebi and also buy shoe and bag to match

Some people who don’t earn much, but have DSTV at home, go for GOTV and upgrade when your income upgrades. It’s still the same CNN.

Eat healthy meals and protect your family from mosquitoes to avoid going to the hospital always. Take advantage of food and fruits in sea*on, its cheaper and you can be creative to create amazing meals.

Don’t copy Mama Emeka’s style of cooking soup, she earns well and her husband is a ‘big man’

Don’t follow trends, wear clean well ironed clothes and keep your hair neat. You would still slay.

*Keep your circle small, keep only friends that have sense!*

Planning is key, if we plan properly we might not need to ask anyone for anything.

Above all things, have the fear of God, have integrity, don’t be lazy and be prayerful.

God bless us all and provide all our needs.
