Please how did you guys do it?

Dear tailor,
Have you had days that felt like the whole universe is against you?

You're cutting a clients fabric and you make a costly mistake, after a lot of brainstorming you figure out a way to correct it..

Then you start working and you discover that the thread you got for the work doesn't really match with the color of the fabric and it's a bit obvious, and you can't compromise your standard;

You need to go and look for a matching thread and probably that's the day your apprentice decided to abscond so you have to multitask..

You're rushing to the shops nearby to look for the thread and you realize you forgot to take a piece of the fabric, OH NO!! you run back and get it..

You start the journey from shop to shop, they don't have the exact color you're looking for, frustration is starting to set in but thank God you finally get it but they're charging you double the normal price, no wahala you buy it and leave..

You're tired, hungry, and frustrated and trying to rush back to the shop at least to get some work done before the end of the day, your slippers decides to cut AHNN AHNN!! Wetin be this?
You look at the distance and it's not that far so you mange to drag your feet to the shop, still determined to beat the odds..

You sit on your machine and start working, as you're stepping on the pedal you hear a CRACK!! yes something broke and it's bad cos the machine is not stitching anymore, OMOH ×100

You feel the tears swelling from your chest but you say "NO! I'll not cry, I won't give up!!" You try to call the mechanic and his number is switched off..

You still ignore all these signs, you look at the clock and it's 3pm already and you say to yourself "I still have few hours before closing time, I'll just iron these other clothes",
You plug in the iron and arrange the dress on the table, just as you place the iron on the dress..
Yes! You got it right!!
NEPA took light??
No, not that!
The iron feels stuck and there's this smell and smoke, you lift it up and there's a hole, the iron left it's footprints on your clients dress..

Everywhere becomes dark,
You're not feeling your chest anymore,
You're too weak to even walk out of the shop cos you never eat since morning..
You pick your phone to make a call and as it starts to ring you hear a battery warning sound and it goes off, you're confused "did I not plug this phone?" No dear you didn't, but you will now. So you quickly get your charger and fix the phone then BOOM!
you're right this time,
NEPA took the light!!

That's when you realize that you're not even supposed to be in that shop in the first place, but you're too scared to even step out so you lie on the floor, cry your eyes out, pray and hope for someone to come and save you..

Dear tailor in Jos, please if anybody sends you a style and ask "how much for this?"
I beg you don't tell them, just say "I'll get back to you in 10minutes"..
Call the market and ask about the prices of everything you'll need for the job before you do your calculations then you can call the person back and say something like "if you're paying today, your bill is so so so"
Cos street don red inside market, believe me!

👗✂👗✂ we dey work!

They say if this doesn't happen to you once as an apprentice bla bla bla! I knew it's all myth so I wasn't expecting it to happen to me.

One fateful day, I was so carried away with what I was sewing the next thing I heard was a CRACK! and then I looked at where the sound came from and it's half of the needle stuck in my fingernail with the thread on the other side..

At first I was confused, then I saw black, then red (yes, my own blood), then the tears started streaming down, I couldn't even shout for help, I was mute for 30 seconds, I still don't know how I managed to remove the half needle and thread but I did..
I was in pain and no one consoled me, instead they were all saying 'wow congrats', 'chief tailor', 'your hand don done be dat' etc.. Not even a 'sorry', my madam even went on to gist me about hers and other people's own that was worst..

I didn't want to give in to their superstitious belief but in my heart I was telling myself "wow! So this is it? You're now a pro, congrats girl!" bla bla bla, the pain eased up and I continued the work I was doing..
After that day everything was back to normal, I was the same apprentice like the day before, nothing close to a pro, but I kept taking my baby steps, picking up lessons here and there, learning everyday, pursuing the goal..

I'm still not a pro at the moment but I'm certainly not the girl I was that day, I've learned a lot, I've grown but this is not even a half of it yet, there's still plenty of work to be done, and i realize that it takes a whole lot more than a needle-prick guys..

So please dear reader, pick something from this post, start moving and don't stop!

When you dare to look beyond yourself, you'll realize just how small you are and how great God is.. JUST DARE!!
