Lionel Messi says he hasn’t yet thought about when he will retire

Lionel Messi joined Inter Miami last year.

Age, they say, is just a number – an adage that appears to ring true for soccer star Lionel Messi.

In an interview with the Big Time Podcast released on Wednesday, the 36-year-old Messi revealed that he doesn’t see his advancing years as an important factor in determining when to end his career.

He also said that he hasn’t considered when he might call time on his playing days, during which he has won the World Cup with Argentina, 10 La Liga and four Champions League titles with Barcelona and eight Ballon d’Or awards.

“The truth is I haven’t thought about it yet,” said Messi, who turns 37 in June. “Today, I try to enjoy it day-by-day, enjoy every moment without thinking about it more than that.

“I don’t have anything clear yet but to keep playing, which is what I’d like to do for a while longer. When the moment arrives, surely I’ll find the path to whatever fills me with joy and I enjoy and it’ll be a new role.”

These days, it’s not unusual for athletes to continue their careers into their late 30s and beyond, with Messi’s long-time rival Cristiano Ronaldo still playing and scoring goals aplenty for Portugal and Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr at the age of 39.

Messi joined MLS side Inter Miami last year and won the Leagues Cup – the first title in his new club’s history – in August. The team is currently second in the Eastern Conference standings having played six games this season.

Asked about what will factor into his decision to retire, Messi said: “The moment that I’m not at the level to deliver, that I’m not enjoying it, that I’m not helping my teammates.

“Like I said before at the beginning, I’m very self-critical with myself. I know when I’m good or when I’m bad, when I play well or when I play badly, and when I feel that moment to take that step, I will without thinking about my age.

“If I feel good, I will always keep trying to compete because it’s what I like and what I know how to do.”

Messi missed Argentina’s recent friendlies against El Savaldor and Costa Rica due to a hamstring injury. It’s unclear whether he will play a part in Inter Miami’s upcoming MLS game against New York City on Saturday.

Things I learnt from Ronaldo fans after the World Cup

1) FIFA helped Messi to win the World Cup with Penalties,

2)FIFA helped Messi with the goal and Assist he had against Mexico and Australia.

3) FIFA Forced Netherland to miss two penalties.

4) FIFA Helped Messi to give an unbelievable pass to Molina to score; and FIFA dribbled Gvardiol and pass the ball to Alvarez to score.

5) FIFA Bribed Santos to bench Ronaldo and then tied Ronaldo legs against Morocco

6) FIFA scored the goal for Morocco against Portugal

7) FIFA TOLD Brazil to lose to Croatia

Then in the final

8)FIFA told Dembele not to tackle Di Maria outside the box that he should wait till he gets into the box

9)FIFA told France to allow Argentina to score the second goal

10)FIFA forgot that Argentina bribed them and awarded two penalty to France

11) Fifa told Kolo Muani to place the ball on EMI Martinez left leg at the dying minute of extra time

12)Then FIFA told K.Coman to place his penalty kick on Martinez hands and told Tchouameni to miss his penalty

13) And to make it not obvious he told Argentina to lose to Saudia Arabia

Ronaldo fans are the most confuse set of fans I have ever seen😂😂😂

Chelsea vs Man City: 2 things to look out for🔵

Chelsea will host premier league champions Manchester City on Sunday in the final match of the game week before the last international window of 2023. Pep Guardiola’s side has been an unbreakable opponent for the Blues since the 2021 UEFA Champions League final victory. They have won all six matches while scoring 10 in return for none.

The fixture will be yet another learning opportunity for Mauricio Pochettino’s men. Confidence will be high after last week’s victory over Tottenham Hotspur. Here are three things to look out for from it.

1. All eyes on Cole Palmer

Manchester City academy graduate was Chelsea’s final summer signing. Palmer will be facing his childhood club for the first time on Sunday. He has already played more minutes in the premier league in three months for the Blues than his former side for three seasons.

The English U21 stalwart is arguably Chelsea’s standout player of the season till now. He also opened his premier league account against Burnley with his new club last month. Palmer should be determined to show the world what City has missed out on.

The stakes of the match will not be a concern for the young Englishman. He has already played in big matches for CFC after starring for England in their 2023 UEFA European Under-21 Championship final.

2. How Chelsea will deal with Manchester City?

Teams fielding a low block in defence is an issue for Chelsea, as seen in the matches they failed to win. Like Tottenham Hotspur last week, Guardiola’s side will also be a team that does not sit back when the opposition has the ball. But Sunday will be an entirely new test for the Stamford Bridge side.

Man City will not leave space for the opposition to run into. At the same time, they will make life strenuous for players to receive and give passes. They will provide Chelsea with a test they have not faced yet under Pochettino.
