This ‘Na wa o’, was loud and clear, as the Theatre Arts Students of University of Port Harcourt presented their KöMUNitī Project, The Floods Fury. ‘Na wa for di pipu wey dey doti awa environment’! Let’s join forces to protect it. The Floods fury spoke of environmental contamination, oil spillage and the disaster the befell a fisherman in the fishing community of Delta State. Beyond the message. Let’s take action!
Our KöMUNitī outing last week in Akungba Ondo State was lit! Over the years, there’s been a a debate about predestination and personal accountability for one’s actions. What do you think? This is a scene from @thespianfamily production of the God’s Are Not To Blame written by Ola Rotimi. Africa is famous for its rich folklore. It’s not only richly illustrative, but very engaging and educative. What engraftment into our memories are the beautiful poetry, dance, activity and songs that accompany them. Olúrónbí is an age old Nigerian tale that teaches about not making promises that cannot be fulfilled. As children, we gathered around elders to listen to these stories and these still influence our values as grown ups. What are your favourite African stories? @thespianfamily , we tell our #africanstories with gusto! #folklore #nigeriantheatre #culture #folksongs #oluronbi #undertheorombo #storytime #valuetainment

Hello Peeps! Today is World Environment Day so our showcase is Mammy Waters Wedding, written by Bode Sowande and performed by THESPIAN Family Theatre & Productions. It’s a beautiful woven story of the pact between the earth and the sea, the sea’s vengeance ameliorated by a love story between an earthling and human. Our spotlight is our waters… We dump debris - cans, dirt, broken brick and plastics into our waters which is not only a hazard to fish and aquatic creatures, but a danger to us because the fish die, reduce in population, migrate, or become unhealthy to eat. (Have you noticed the debris that blocks the drainages and gutters and always causes endless flooding… that gist is for another spotlight.) Either way ‘las-las’ it comes back to hit us... Poor hygienic conditions, increased damage and costs, reduced revenues, poor quality of sea food, smelly seas or … perhaps a Mammy- Water- Led - Vengeance plot! Showing soon… #savetheenvironment #thespianfamilytheatre #theatreforsocialchange #communityimpact #lagosstateenvironmentalprotectionagency
