*PROPERTY NOT FOR SALE, BEWARE OF 419, Landlord graffitis Kwara PDP's secretariat*
The owner of the land on which the Kwara State People's Democratic Party (PDP) secretariat lies has placed a graffiti to indicate that his property is not for sale.
The landlord also warned the public to beware of 419 (fraudsters).
Observers have said that this development may have come against the background of the ridiculous sale of public assets the Saraki dynasty was known for.
When the incumbent Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq came into power in 2019, he set up a public assets committee that found out mind-blowing sales of public assets at giveaway prices.
The popular Ile Arugbo where the Sarakis gather old people for the distribution of handouts in undignified manner was found out to be originally owned by the civil service clinic.
It was converted to the private ownership of the Sarakis who have not been able to provide a Certificate of Occupancy for the building.
Again, some stakeholders in Ilorin vehemently opposed the sale of the former Ilorin Eid praying ground to a private hand Artee Group at ridiculous amount.
They tagged it as a gross disrespect of the Ilorin people's culture and affront to the Islamic religion.
As of today when our correspondent visited the secretariat, the graffiti was still on the walls of the building.

KwaraLEARN, a classroom revolution
Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq
The kernel of our electoral campaign to the people of Kwara State is to restore the dignity of the Kwara person, redeem the lost glory of the state on all fronts, ensure inclusive growth, and reposition it for greatness and competitiveness in Nigeria. At the heart of this campaign is quality education and human capital development — an area that is critical for inclusive growth and upward social mobility in the knowledge economy.
We are clearly delivering on this score. In addition to getting our state off national (UBEC) blacklist and freeing our schools from WAEC sanctions, progressively committing huge resources to rebuilding basic schools, as well as injecting new 4,700 competent teachers into our classrooms, this week we are rolling out the first phase of our flagship education transformative programme: Kwara Leading Education Achievement and Reform Now, or KwaraLEARN.
This is in realisation that getting education right from the foundation will support our achievements in infrastructural development, agriculture, technology and social services, and open up new vistas of opportunities that will promote common good.
Our flagship education programme takes the baton from pre-existing transformation programmes in Lagos and Edo States, both of which are local solutions already delivering value. We have understudied and have now made it fit for our own system here in Kwara.
This is a lifetime investment that empowers teachers and gives public school pupils the best shot at 21st century education with reverberating effects on learning outcomes and the future of the state. The KwaraLEARN programme affords our teachers the right digital tools to be at their best, while providing an electronic platform to make classrooms and schools transparent. The technology will monitor attendance and performance of pupils and teachers in all classrooms, offering continual support and feedback.
As a new term begins, we are not just discussing how to improve our schools and classrooms, we are implementing new approaches and techniques. We are taking action.
We are taking the future of our state and shaping it with a carefully designed policy which places Kwara as an innovation capital in Nigeria and West Africa’s economic growth.
Over the last few weeks, 3,500 of our teachers have been trained in the use of new digital technology and proven pedagogical techniques designed to support them in delivering the best possible lessons to their students. Thousands more will be trained in the subsequent phase of the programme.
Our aim is to transform every government primary school and, in doing so, transform the learning outcomes for every Kwara child.
To do this, we are empowering all our primary teachers with the right digital tools to be at their very best in the delivery of expertly planned lessons based on our national curriculum. This is supported with an electronic platform to make classrooms and schools transparent.
The technology will monitor attendance and performance of pupils and teachers in every classroom, offering continual real-time support and feedback. Bespoke coaching programmes will support every teacher in their classroom. KwaraLEARN helps our teachers to become highly-skilled, through training and motivation to succeed at their job. And it will provide Kwara’s learning leaders, our State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), with unprecedented levels of knowledge and information about the success of every single state primary school.
This approach, combining structured pedagogy with the gathering of real-time data for accountability and feedback, is one recommended by the World Bank, as governments everywhere deal with the impact of the covid-19 pandemic, and the school closures which accompanied it, on children’s education.
In Nigeria, we know that transformational reform cannot be delayed. A recent UNICEF assessment suggested that 70% of 10-year-olds across the country cannot understand a simple sentence or manage basic numeracy.
This has been worsened in Nigeria and elsewhere by Covid-19 which caused huge damage to our education system and our communities. As we in Kwara emerge from the pandemic, my team and I are taking action to ‘build back better’. We envision a state that policymakers refer to as a successful model of education reform post-pandemic.
We are therefore determined to deliver dramatic improvements in learning outcomes for our children across Kwara State. Not only is access to quality education their right, improving their numeracy and literacy skills will allow our pupils to compete with their peers anywhere in the world.
We believe that the path to prosperity is through the education of the Kwara child. Along with our phenomenal investments in physical infrastructure and other things, education underpins economic growth, stability, and sustainable development.
We are confident that the KwaraLEARN programme will be an outstanding success and birth measurable improvements in learning outcomes delivered quickly. Our technical partners, NewGlobe, have already delivered them in support of similar programmes in Edo and Lagos States, and we trust them to do a lot more to partner with other stakeholders towards returning basic education in Kwara State to the dream of our founding fathers.
UNESCO’s New Social Contract for Education calls on governments to focus on “placing greater emphasis on improving learning outcomes in our education systems, and employing new techniques and methodologies that have been proven to yield better results for our students”.
This is precisely what we are doing through KwaraLEARN. We are adopting an approach proven in the Global South, and more importantly within Nigeria, suited to our unique circumstances, away from a historical focus on the replication of ideas and institutions from the industrialised North.
KwaraLEARN represents our vision for a stronger and more prosperous Kwara. A Kwara that is recognised in Nigeria and across West Africa as a leader in reforms that will deliver economic growth and more sustainable futures for our population. KwaraLEARN will transform all government primary schools across the state into powerful public schools, moving them from an analogue approach to one of digital transformation.
This transformational approach to our education system will deliver radically improved outcomes for our children. That success will be seen quickly, giving this generation of children the potential to transform Kwara State.

Kwst Govt unveils Draft Ilorin Masterplan.
Kwara State Government says it will prioritise the master plans for other major cities as it builds a sustainable future for the State.
The Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, said this at the public presentation of the draft Ilorin masterplan today at the state banquet hall.
AbdulRazaq, represented by his deputy, Mr Kayode Alabi, said masterplans are crucial to sustainable development as they dictate the pattern of physical development with severe consequences for sustainable living.
AbdulRazaq maintained that the Ilorin master plan reflects his administration’s concern for planned growth and children’s future, adding that it is a testament to great vision and commitment for the state.
‘Ilorin, which is one of the fastest-growing cities in Nigeria, will continue to record huge growth. This master plan, therefore, provides A-grade professional insights into how the city will be organised in the areas of transportation and utilities, waste management, water and drainage system, education, health, climate change management and green areas, job opportunities, agriculture, and future expansion of the city, among others’, he added.
He lauded the stakeholders and experts from across Kwara State and beyond for their inputs in the master plan project, which started about 15 months ago, urging everyone to provide feedback on how to organise the capital city and make it the best planned and most resilient in the country.
Executive Chairman, Kwara State Geographic Information Service and Chairman, Ilorin Masterplan working Committee, Abdulmutalib Sh*ttu, said the Dar Al-Handasah Consultant Ltd. won a rigorous bidding process to develop the Ilorin new urban Masterplan. He said inputs were taken from stakeholder engagements onto what has now formed the draft Masterplan unveiled today.
Sh*ttu added that after the presentation, the exhibition would officially be opened for the general public to view the various proposed future developments the Masterplan recommends.
The exhibition, he said, will be opened for 28 days, during which members of the public can engage with the draft Masterplan.

AbdulRazaq truly hardworking, good to run again: Emir of Ilorin
•I'm committed to people's welfare: Gov
Emir of Ilorin Dr. Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari on Tuesday hailed the hands-on approach of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to the duties of his office, saying it would be good to have the Governor run for another term in the 2023 ballot.
"The Governor AbdulRazaq has been hardworking. In fact he is a field man. I think he spends more time on the fields (attending to public needs) than in his office," the Emir said at the Bareke, the traditional Eid homage by the monarch -- a tradition that dated back to the colonial years.
"May God continue to guide you, protect you and assure success for him in all his endeavours.
"I wish the Governor is willing to do another term in office. It is an individual's right assigned in the constitution of Nigeria that the Governor that spent four years in the first term can also contest for a second term. Your Excellency, go ahead with aspiration to become a second term Governor of Kwara State."
The Governor, for his part, commended the Emir for his fatherly roles and for promoting peace and cultural heritage of the Ilorin Emirate.
"I welcome Your Royal Highness and distinguished members of your entourage to Government House on another occasion of Bareke. This is a tradition that is rooted in history and culture. It is a testament to the excellent relationship between the traditional institution and the government. We do not take that for granted. Rest assured that this administration will always honour and respect the legacies of the House of Sheikh Alimi,"
"Your Royal, our administration is committed to peace, unity, and general well-being of the largest majority of our people. And within a space of three years, we have made Kwara workers one of the best and promptly paid workforce in central Nigeria.
"Our commitment to collective good is evident across all sectors. Health indices have improved; we have upgraded facilities across the state. We have taken roads and other developmental projects to the remotest corners of our state; and we have standardized basic education. Today, unlike before, Kwara competes strongly with its peers in things that truly matter.
"But this is just the beginning. Over the next few years, our state will be the go-to place for national and international events. This is thanks to the different facilities we are building. When people come to see our Durbar, they will go away with beautiful memories of a peaceful state with some of the most modern artistic structures and tourist attractions.
"We thank Your Royal Highness for your fatherly role at all times. We wish you good health and long live on the throne of Sheikh Alimi. Eid Mubaarak!"

*Kwara students to represent Nigeria at World Schools Debate Championships in Netherlands*
• State govt opens camp for debaters
Kwara State Government has camped its secondary school students ahead of the World Schools Debate Championship holding in Netherlands later this year.
Chairman of the Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (KWSUBEB) Prof. Sheu Raheem Adaramaja said in a statement in Ilorin, the state capital, that Governor AbdulRahman Abdulrazaq approved the camping exercise to properly prepare the students for the championship.
It would be recalled that the Kwara contingent, comprising public schools students, won the national schools debate at the finals in Lagos, in what underscored the efforts and investments of the Abdulrazaq administration in basic education.
“Our children are the ones representing Nigeria in the Netherlands. Everything is being done to make sure they excel at the world schools debate championship. We have engaged various tutors, including native speakers of English language who are involved in the KwaraLEARN programme, to hone the skills of the students to be at their best,” Adaramaja said.
“We do have very good and committed local tutors who have been training these children. The idea of also getting native speakers, who incidentally are working on our KwaraLEARN project, is to expose the children to different intonations they might encounter at the championship. We are confident that they will represent Nigeria well, just as they have recently done us proud in Kwara State at the national level.”

Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, is dead
Top Yoruba monarch, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, has passed on.
Alaafin Adeyemi, the third from the Alowodu Ruling House, died in the late hours of Friday at the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti state capital.
The remains of the top Yoruba traditional ruler were brought to Oyo town, 62 kilometres from Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, in the early hours of Saturday and traditional rites began, palace sources told this platform.
He was 83 years old and the longest reigning Alaafin ever, having ruled for 52 years.
The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, is expected to make an official announcement upon receiving the report of the monarch’s passing from the Bashorun of Oyo, Yusuf Akinade, the head of the ‘Oyo Mesi’, who will now lead Oyo town before a new Alaafin is installed.
The monarch had been sick and a plan had been made to fly him abroad before he passed on late Friday night.
A source familiar with the medical travel plan said his tickets and those of a few wives were already procured.
His death came months after the two other senior Oyo State monarchs – the Olubadan of Ibadan, Saliu Adetunji, and the Soun of Ogbomoso, Jimoh Oyewumi – died. All happened in less than five months.
It would be recalled that a new Olubadan has been installed but the Soun throne remains vacant.
Alaafin Adeyemi was born Lamidi Olayiwola Atanda Adeyemi on October 15, 1938 into the Alowolodu Royal House of the famous Oyo town
He was crowned on November 18, 1970, succeeding Oba Gbadegesin Ladigbolu I. He was known popularly as Iku Baba Yeye.
While he reigned, he was the permanent chairperson of the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs.
With the demise of Alaafin Adeyemi, it is now the turn of the Agunloye Ruling House to produce the next Oyo monarch. Mr Adeyemi’s predecessor, Alaafin Ladigbolu, was from the Agunloye House
Happy 82nd birthday to the Emir of Ilorin. HRH Alh Dr. Ibrahim kolapo zulu-Gambari CFR,(Ayelabowo the 2nd) May your reign continue to be peaceful and the days ahead be more glowing and prosperous.

KWSG denies borrowing N93bn, says Saheed Popoola lied
The Kwara State government has denied borrowing N193bn over the last three years, describing the claim by Hon. Saheed Popoola as false and totally out of line.
In a statement by the Honourable Commissioner for Communications, Bode Towoju, the government said the interest of the people is paramount to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and urged the people beware of rumour mongers who have started springing up poorly-calculated mischief in a bid to mislead the populace for selfish political gains.
Reacting to a claim by Hon. Popoola on a radio programme in which the lawmaker mischievously alleged that the administration has taken a total of N93bn loan since coming on board in 2019, Towoju said the claim is outright falsehood.
"The N93 billion loan claim is spurious. How can you come up with such preposterous propaganda when the facts of what the administration received are in the public domain? The government has spoken extensively on the bond it took as well as the budget support/loan refinancing facility," the statement said.
"There is a debt stock of N93 billion naira. For the sake of emphasis, as against the unfounded claims, the totality of this loan was not accrued over the last three years under the leadership of the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
"The past administrations left a foreign loan of 43 million dollars. This is apart from the domestic debt of over 63 billion naira that this administration met on the ground.
"This administration, for the three years it has spent, has only taken a bond of 27 billion naira, out of which only N12billion has been drawn so far. The effect of what the administration has accessed can be seen in the numerous projects that are ongoing across the state.
"Some N18.6 billion refinancing facility has also been given to all the states, including Kwara State, by the Federal government to cushion the effects of the repayment of loans taken by past administrations and as a form of budget support."
He said the loan secured by the present administration was for projects like the ongoing Gen. Tunde Idiagbon flyover at Tankein Ilorin, the two campuses of the Kwara State University in Osi and Ilesha Baruba that were abandoned by the past administration and other monumental projects, Osi-Obboroad, Ilesha Gwanara Road, and the many other roads, and other giant projects that are ongoing.
Towoju advised Hon. Saheed Popoola to focus on the legislative business for which the people of Ojomu-Balogun constituency elected him, rather than chasing shadow on radio.
The Commissioner called on Kwarans to get their Permanent Voters Cards(PVC's) and focus on the numerous achievements of the governor, without paving ways for "rumour mongers" and "fake news carriers" even as the 2023 elections draw near.

Adamolekun Foundation Organises Anti Drug Abuse Seminar in Ekiti
Kayode Adamolekun Foundation during the weekend organized seminar to spread anti drug abuse campaign among the youth.
The seminar held at Ilesanmi hall, AB Hotel, Ado-Ekiti with the Theme: SAY NO TO DRUGS, SAY YES TO THE FUTURE was attended by students of secondary schools and higher institutions in the state.
In his address, the Convener of the Seminar/Chairman Kayode Adamolekun Foundation, Engr Kayode Adamolekun said he believed the little deliberate steps on the path of progress can yield great results, if the youth shun drug abuse.
According to him, the goal is to sensitize our teenagers, youths, mentors and guardians about the dangers of drug abuse, and to create an enabling environment or opportunity for rehabilitation.
Adamolekun noted that Free Seminar became necessary due the issue of Substance Abuse among teenagers and young adults, noting that the leaders of tomorrow, falling under the weight of peer pressure and sheer ignorance, wasting their precious lives away to addiction.
"At Kayode Adamolekun Foundation, we have decided to do our part, to sensitize, educate and rehabilitate (if needed) these bright stars, and empower them for impactful living.
If you leave this place convinced about the dangers of substance abuse, and empowered to pursue a life of purpose and value in the society, then our work is done, and our goal for this meeting has been achieved." He explained
"If you are seated here or connected to this event online, I want you to know you are someone with a potential for great things in life. No matter what the present looks like, you need to understand that the future belongs to those who have refused to give up in the present. Oftentimes, we just need that person who believes in us enough to cheer us on, in our journey through life. I will not bore you with statistics, but millions of bright stars like you, both male and female, are dying daily and missing valuable opportunities in life because of drug addiction. What usually begins as a secret habit, would later aggravate to become a major obstacle on their journey towards a bright and fulfilling future."
NDLEA State Commandant, Anthony Ariyo attributed menace of drug abuse to lack of parental control, saying parents no longer pay attention to their children.
Our Correspondent reports that Nollywood Actor, Lateef Oladimeji, his wife, Mo Bimpe and other celebrities graced the Anti Drug Abuse Seminar.
A Pharmacist, Olarewaju Toyosi in her contribution said activities of illegal patent stores is worsening the situation as professional pharmacist would never sell regulated drugs without doctor's prescription.
Some participants who speak with newsmen after the event thanked the foundation for organizing the seminar, noting they have learned alot from different speakers.
