How to write a formal letter
With the advent of email, it is becoming less and less common to write letters, but the few letters that you will write will probably be very important ones, such as covering letters for job applications, covering letters for questionnaires or surveys which are part of your research, or letters of complaint to your bank manager.
It is very important, therefore, that your letters have the desired effect on the reader. In order to achieve this, they should be:
in the correct format
short and to the point
relevant
free of any grammatical or spelling mistakes
polite, even if you're complaining
well presented
This guide will give some general advice on letter writing and includes some sample letters.
If you are replying to a letter it can be a good idea to note how that letter has been formatted and expressed.
Your address, but not your name, usually goes in the top right hand corner. You would not usually include your telephone number or email address here, but this would be permissible.
The name and address of the person you're writing to goes below this, on the left. If you don't have a specific name, always at least try to put some sort of title. You should always, however, address the letter to a particular person if at all possible.
The position of the date is more flexible. It can go on the left or the right, usually below the addressee details. The format of the date is also flexible; it could be written 5 April 2003, 5th April 2003, 5/4/03 or 05/04/03. Avoid putting the day and month the other way round.
The salutation at the beginning of the letter depends on whether or not you have the name of the person. If you do, write Dear Mr. Ochs, Dear Mrs. Baez, Dear Miss Perhacs, or, if you don't know the marital status of a woman, or if she has written this, Dear Ms. Bunyan. It is possible to write Dear Robert Fripp or Dear Alison Statton, but many people consider this awkward. If the person has a specific title, use this: Dear Dr. Hammill. If you don't know the name of the person, you would traditionally write Dear Sir. This is clearly somewhat sexist, so many people prefer Dear Sir/Madam or Dear Sir or Madam.
It is common now to put the subject of the letter directly below the salutation. This would be in bold or underlined. The purpose is to give the reader an idea of what the letter is about before reading it, and to be able to pass it on to a more appropriate person if necessary. If you are replying to a letter which had a reference (or ref.) on it, you should repeat this on your letter, probably on the same line as the date, but on the other side of the page. Write Your ref.: # # /xx
The content of your letter should be as short as possible, divided into short, clear paragraphs.
It is common to end your letter with a phrase such as I look forward to hearing from you. It's OK to do this, but it's a bit meaningless.
To end the letter, you would normally write Yours sincerely if you have started the letter with the name of the person, or Yours faithfully if you have started with something like Dear Sir.
Sign you name directly below this and then print it below the signature.

The English Tense System
Many English learners worry too much about tense. If you stopped 100 native English speakers in the street and asked them about tense, one of them might give you an intelligent answer if you were lucky. The other 99 would know little about terms like "past perfect" or "present continuous". And they would know nothing about aspect, voice or mood. But they can all speak fluent English and communicate effectively. Of course, for ESL it helps to know about tenses, but don't become obsessed with them. Be like those native speakers! Speak naturally!

The links below are to lessons for each of the 12 basic tenses. In each lesson we look at two aspects of the tense:

Structure: How do we make the tense?
Use: When and why do we use the tense?
Some lessons look at additional aspects, and most of them finish with a quiz to check your understanding.
Present Tense
I do do, I do
Present Continuous Tense
I am doing, I am doing tomorrow
Present Perfect Tense
I have done
Present Perfect Continuous Tense
I have been doing
Past Tense
I did do, I did
Past Continuous Tense
I was doing
Past Perfect Tense
I had done
Past Perfect Continuous Tense
I had been doing
Future Tense
I will do
Future Continuous Tense
I will be doing
Future Perfect Tense
I will have done
Future Perfect Continuous Tense
I will have been doing

The Creative and the most Famous Lines of my novel "A Fabulous Rapport"

"Mummy, whenever I close my eyes for sleep, I seem to lose my way. I do not feel any pain in the sleep and then I watch a dream, sometimes about school, sometimes about you and Papa, sometimes about friends. So, how dreams are made?" Kevin asked.

"I once asked this question to my mother and she told me that there is a big tree in our heart that we cannot see. Our dreams are written on every leaf of that huge tree and when we think about something for a whole day or whole week or whole year, the leaf of that dream falls on the ground and that's how our eyes magnify that dream but I did not accept the words of my mother. And later I felt that it is not a tree, it is a river that is flowing in our heart that we cannot see. A big boat is sailing on that river. The boat carries all our wishes and desires in the form of dreams. Whenever we think about something for a whole day, the boat throws the dream of that thing on the bank of the river, and when we close our eyes for sleep, our eyes pick that dream from the bank and that's how we see that dream."

Use HAD for time that took place before another.

FOR EXAMPLE:
It is wrong to use a sentence like this:

By 2000, many new techniques WAS DEVELOPED.

The sentence is WRONG because the NEW TECHNIQUES had happened before the year 2000. So, we must use HAD to indicate the time.

Like this:

By 2000, many new techniques HAD BEEN DEVELOPED.

Learn the use, make more sentences on your own.

COVID-19 IN NIGERIA: QUOTES AND COMMENTS
"I can assure you that 90 percent of this COVID, the noise about COVID is political, economic and financial material gain. The remaining 10 percent is ordinary flu. Treat the flu, common cold and we are good to go"--------YAYA BELLO, Governor of Kogi state. (This governor whose state hasn't recorded any covid-19 case, is said to be under pressure to declare some pseudo cases so as to benefit from the " financial gains" but he has remain good to his conscience.

"Hydro chloroquine , 400mg daily for two days thereafter 400 mg daily for three days. Azythromycin 500mg daily for 10 days, Zinc sulphate 100mg daily till today. Vitamin C, 1200mg daily till now"---------DOYIN OKUGBE, a train medical doctor, and a former senior special assistant to former president Good luck Jonathan, speaking on his cure for covid-19. He was supposedly infected, isolated, treated and discharged.

" Maybe our politicians thinks the covid-19 is an election. You know, they know how to manipulate figures, as in rigging. Where one person cast the ballot, they do say a hundred. They have brought same to this pandemic. When one person test positive, they will announce a thousand cases and that is why in Nigeria, we keep having hundred of cases recorded everyday"------------Proff FASHOLA JOHNSON

"Now I live in Lagos and my job do take me to different parts of the state. I meet thousands of people daily and since we began the easing of this lockdown, I haven't met and seen anybody with the virus"----- Barrister UBULUKU

"How come we are not seeing people crying of losing their loved ones or having them in isolation centres? Who exactly are the people in Nigeria's isolation centres? Are they ghost? Have you seen anybody who is saying his father, mother, sister, brother, uncle, aunt, wife, husband, friend or even enemy is in the isolation centre? And all these treated and discharge cases what are they using to treat them? The whole thing seem more of a hoax"----------Proff ABLE EGO

"I have enough facts to show that covid-19 in Nigeria, is a scam. A young Nigerian author, Oghene Abel rightly calls it covid-19. I wear mask not because there is any covid-19 in Nigeria but because it doesn't hurt to take precaution"-------Engineer IGHO.O.IGHO

Judging from all these opinions and comments, you will see that the media hullabaloo, political covid scam and the hunger resulting from the lockdown, is the real pandemic in Nigeria and not some Chinese virus.

How Do I Have To Study?!

Many students face the study problem during their academic years. It also builds self-doubts in a student's mind that will lead to a great degrade. Whether how to study or how to find a suitable study method and follow it from time to time is not also an easy task to do. Research and experiences show there are some useful methods to help students in getting better marks.

The first method is not practical though it is the basic impact of following any study method. A thought, a student in his journey must be a thoughtful person. it should be understood that nothing is easy to achieve. You have to put your efforts and hard work to make it worthy. Your hard work will pay off at the end of the day. Once you get motivational by convincing yourself towards the success that is waiting the next step is to make a road-map.

Road-map is your timetable, yes you have designed a timetable for your study. Making according to a day or a week but for college students, a monthly time table is not recommended unless your final exams are not conducted annually. Make a list of the important topics from all your subjects and give 40 minutes to each subject a day and each day take two subjects for 80 minutes. Now let's talk about how you gonna organize it with your daily routine.

Every person has different needs and moods so organize your time table according to your daily routine. For example, if you dot like t study after getting back from college then do it in the evenings or you at night but before 10 pm. Strictly following the timetable you get you to overcome your study stress because even in the night before the exam it won't be left tons of topics.

The following something means to cut off the extras. The extra activities like gaming online for hours or browsing on Facebook for no reason must stop. A clear warning from you to yourself especially in the last month of your semester. Take out some specific timing for your fun activities and let your self be organized. It's not boring you only have to do it for four years; I’m kidding - but you have to stick to the plan.

Now lets become real practical, Read, write, and learn. Let's make it a habit before the lecture read that topic for once it will lot easier to be attentive during the lecture. You won't be bothered to write down notes from lecture and that's how it will more fun and easier way of learning a topic Because there is no way to get away with it.

Listen to your favorite music while you on your way to get a class. Music always works for moods and it also helps to have a little before something that might be boring. Taking good sleep at night always works for fresh and brighten mornings. Try to get at least eight hours of sleep for 24 hrs in one row. It is an idiom that Early bird arrivals will be given a free cup of coffee.

Last but not least, make Sunday real fun-day, no study at all. Go out with your friends and have fun. Spend time with your family or finish your favorite NetFlix series. Make this one-day stress free day that will help a lot to start a better Monday. Oh No! I don't want weekends to be over.

Lastly, chasing your dreams isn’t just about the end goal. In fact, the pursuit can be a wonderful experience. Along the way you’ll make memories, friends, and learn new things that you may never have had the opportunity to do otherwise. Remember that in the end, it’s your life, so make the best one for yourself.
