The Art of Making the Right Choice: A Guide to Sound Decision-Making”

We all face countless choices every day, each one shaping our lives in unique ways. Making the right choice can be a transformative experience, and it all comes down to a few key principles. 🤔💡

Pause and Reflect 🤯

Before diving into a decision, take a moment to pause and reflect. Understand the options before you and the potential consequences of each. This clarity can help you make an informed choice. 🌟

Seek Advice and Perspective 🗣️

Don’t hesitate to seek advice from trusted friends, mentors, or experts when facing a significant decision. Fresh perspectives can shed light on blind spots and offer valuable insights.

Consider the Long-Term Impact ⏳

When making choices, think beyond the immediate benefits. How will your decision affect your future? Will it align with your goals and values in the long run?

Learn from Mistakes 💪

Remember that making the right choice doesn’t mean you’ll always be perfect. Mistakes are part of the learning process. Embrace them as opportunities for growth and adjust your course accordingly. 🌱

Trust Your Instincts 🌠

Sometimes, your gut feeling can guide you towards the right choice. Trust your intuition, especially when it aligns with your values and goals. 🌄

Embrace Responsibility 🤝

Once you make a choice, embrace the responsibility that comes with it. Stand by your decisions and work through any challenges that may arise as a result. This builds character and resilience.

Celebrate Your Successes 🎉

When you make the right choice and it leads to positive outcomes, celebrate your successes! Acknowledging your achievements reinforces your ability to make sound decisions. 🎈

Your Choices Define You

Ultimately, remember that your choices define you. They shape your character, your path, and your legacy. Make the conscious effort to choose wisely, and your life will reflect your commitment to growth and positivity.

Making the right choice is an art, and like any art form, it takes practice. Approach each decision with mindfulness and the intention to live a life that aligns with your truest self.

Good evening Nigerians - Home and abroad,

Today, in unity with my friend, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan , we have initiated a new era of collaboration and friendship between our nations - Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates.

We've also laid a robust foundation for substantial investments in various sectors in Nigeria, a testament to our shared vision for a prosperous future.

Together, we are committed to building bridges and fostering a friendship that stands the test of time. As part of our discussions, the following have been reached:

1. Immediate lifting of the visa ban placed on Nigerian travelers by the UAE.

2. Resumption of flight schedules into and out of Nigeria by Etihad Airlines and Emirates Airlines, without any immediate payment required from the Nigerian government.

3. An agreed framework for new investments worth several billions of U.S. dollars into the Nigerian economy by the UAE government, covering multiple sectors including defense and agriculture.

4. A new joint foreign exchange liquidity programme between Nigeria and the UAE, details of which will be announced in the coming weeks.

5. A commitment to normalize and enhance the relations between the two countries, fostered by the collaboration between myself and UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

FRIENDSHIP! WHO REALLY IS A FRIEND?

While most love songs are inspired by the joys and heartaches of romantic relationships, love between friends can be just as intense and complicated. Many people struggle to make and maintain friendships, and a falling-out with a close friend can be as painful as a breakup with a partner. Every human being needs the other to live a fulfilled life. No man is an Island. No man can boast of living well in a place alone, he needs the other person.

Despite these potential pitfalls, human beings have always prized friendship. As the 4th century B.C.E. philosopher Aristotle wrote: “no one would choose to live without friends,” even if they could have all other good things instead. He extensively discussed the concept of friendship in his work, "Nicomachean Ethics". He categorized friendship into three types: friendships of utility, friendships of pleasure, and friendships of the good. These classifications remain relevant today and continue to influence our understanding of human relationships in contemporary society.

Aristotle's Kinds of Friendship:

1. Friendships of Utility: These friendships are based on the benefits or services that friends provide to each other. They are often temporary, lasting only as long as the utility is provided.

2. Friendships of Pleasure: These friendships are based on the enjoyment derived from the company of others. They are often formed around shared activities or interests.

3. Friendships of the Good: These are the highest form of friendship according to Aristotle. They are based on mutual respect and admiration for each other's virtues. These friendships are long-lasting and provide the highest form of satisfaction.

Aristotle’s definition of friendship: reciprocal, recognized goodwill. In contrast to parenthood or siblinghood, friendship exists only if it is acknowledged by both parties. It is not enough to wish someone well; they have to wish you well in return, and you must both recognize this mutual goodwill. In his words To be friends … [the parties] must feel goodwill for each other, that is, wish each other’s good, and be aware of each other’s goodwill.”

Aristotle's philosophy of friendship is still evident in our contemporary society. Friendships of utility are common in professional and business relationships, where the primary motivation is mutual benefit. Friendships of pleasure are seen in social circles, where people bond over shared hobbies, interests, or activities.

However, it is the friendships of the good that are most valued, even in today's society. These friendships, based on mutual respect, admiration, and shared values, are the ones that tend to stand the test of time. They are the friendships that provide emotional support, personal growth, and a sense of belonging.

In the age of social media, Aristotle's philosophy on friendship is particularly relevant. Online platforms often promote friendships of utility and pleasure, with connections based on professional networking or shared interests. However, they can lack the depth and personal growth associated with friendships of the good.

Aristotle's philosophy serves as a reminder of the importance of cultivating deep, meaningful relationships based on mutual respect and shared values. It encourages us to evaluate our relationships and to strive for friendships that contribute to our personal growth and well-being.

Aristotle's philosophy on the kinds of friendship provides a timeless framework for understanding our relationships. His emphasis on friendships of the good, characterized by mutual respect, admiration, and shared values, continues to influence our pursuit of meaningful relationships in contemporary society. As we navigate our social interactions, both offline and online, it is good to note that mistakes are bound to be made and the corrected; that is why pencils are made with eraser. In the light of this it is true that friendship in the modern day has a lot of shortcomings, but there is still hope. If the our society today would follow the guideline set down by Aristotle, they stand a better chance of enjoying a better life tomorrow.

However always note that friendships reveal important things about who we are and how we love.

Who’s your friend???

Please read through if you can;

I am writing this to extensively address a crucial question from my live call yesterday. I have painstakingly tackled this question somewhere else, where I detailed my journey as a young boy who felt a deep sense of the vocation to the priesthood and the vocation being taken away from me prematurely. It is not for everyone, but I hope you find it helpful in removing the façade we are most aware of wearing but do not know what to do with it. It is pretty long, and if you find it useful, you may share it with the other person.

When I was in the seminary, we used to have a theory that one only knows if he is called to be a priest once he is clothed with a stole, chasuble, and anointed with the oil of Chrism. Thus, those who left the seminary of their own volition or were withdrawn or expelled were not called. We have lived with this theory for ages, and in one or the other, it determines how we interact with the world outside the seminary. We have lived with it, including the mental turmoil it brings and the iron curtain it develops that beclouds our sense of reasoning. But that is a false theory because some are already priests but still need to know if they were called to be priests. Some are in the line of the vocation and are yet to hear that voice that would say to them, “Now, I have called you.” And the truth is, once you are clothed with the priestly regalia, no voice will ever say to you that you are chosen. You will hear the voice of deployment that amplifies your chosen vocation and not the other way around.

Considering the words of the prophet, Jeremiah, chapter one, verses 4 and 5, God had called you even before you contemplated going to the seminary. Before you were conceived, He dedicated you a prophet to the nation and called you His own. You are His own, His alone. Going to the seminary and becoming a priest amplifies that call in the most profound sense and not the call in itself. It amplifies it in that you act in the person of Christ despite your terrible flaws. It amplifies the call because you are both the called and the caller, the victim, and the victimhood. So much energy has been deposited in you to stand between heaven and earth. By the very words of consecration, you raise matter to heaven and bring meaning to earth. More than the ordinary man, you are charged to be the representative of Christ (in persona Christus). Consequently, if you are still waiting for that voice to tell you that you are now called, you may die without hearing that voice, but the voice has been speaking to you.

Leaving the seminary does not change anything but dignifies everything in the most profound sense of the word. Part of the problem with why we do not know this is that when we leave the seminary, we cease to pay keen attention to ourselves. We live our lives as if we have been in a cage. Indeed, we were in a cage, but only we can avail ourselves of the freedom we earnestly desire. Only you can give yourself the life you seek, and only you can determine what and how your next life will look like.

To know this, you must pay attention to yourself, the deep within you, psychological maladjustment, the challenges you will face and the friends you will lose and begin to readjust. There's a call within a calling that you'll need to pay attention to. Leaving the seminary does not mean you are cursed. Instead, it means you have been called differently, and only you can decipher that call. I tell you this with every fibre of my being and by virtue of my experience.

As an ex-seminarian, you are not marred but have been elevated to another status. You have been called to live beyond yourself, to listen to the deep within you and offer your talent to the broader society. Life may prove to be difficult, but that is how life is, and you must assume your responsibility to make the best out of it. Pay deep attention, and you will see that life is worth living. People will despise you, but you do not need them to survive! Your family will shake, but they will find comfort at the right time. Because, most solemnly, it does not get from bad to worse but from worse to better. You will make the wrong choices, but they will develop gradually into good fortune. Heaven knows that I am flawed in many ways to talk about this. As I write this, I have failed in many ways in pursuing what I considered a meaningful life that I look pitiful in people’s eyes. I have made so many plans that crumbled irredeemably that I absconded from public life in deep solitude. It takes courage and grace to bear the shame of the choices you will make because of the complex situations they will put you into. But the truth is that the alternative always flounders in chaos. The fact remains that something is going on in spite of the tectonic fall. The world can be cruel, dark, and uncertain, but the fundamental question is: How do you improve it for yourself and the people around you? You do not do that by weeping over the spilt milk but by taking up your responsibility and facing life and all its vagaries instead of running away from it.

I hope this speaks to you, and more of it will be read soon.

All the best!

In Ancient Greece, Socrates had a great reputation of wisdom. One day, someone came to find the great philosopher and said to him:
- Do you know what I just heard about your friend?
- A moment, replied Socrates. Before you tell me, I would like to test you the three sieves.
- The three sieves?
- Yes, continued Socrates. Before telling anything about the others, it's good to take the time to filter what you mean. I call it the test of the three sieves. The first sieve is the TRUTH. Have you checked if what you're going to tell me is true?
- No, I just heard it.
- Very good! So, you don't know if it's true. We continue with the second sieve, that of KINDNESS. What you want to tell me about my friend, is it good?
- Oh, no! On the contrary.
- So, questioned Socrates, you want to tell me bad things about him and you're not even sure they're true? Maybe you can still pass the test of the third sieve, that of UTILITY. Is it useful that I know what you're going to tell me about this friend?
- No, really.
- So, concluded Socrates, what you were going to tell me is neither true, nor good, nor useful. Why, then, did you want to tell me this?

"Gossip is a bad thing. In the beginning it may seem enjoyable and fun, but in the end, it fills our hearts with bitterness and poisons us, too!"

Gossips undresses and shames and leaves innocent people who cannot defend themselves vulnerable. It unclothes human dignity and shames the others unfairly. We kill innocent people with our gossip and bad mouthing… Gossip is the stripping of human dignity by bitter souls…

OBIDIENTS HERE IS YOUR LEAD COUNSEL FOR THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS.

Below is his Biography read and get ready to reclaim our mandate💪

Born in Onitsha, Anambra State on 15th April, 1959, trained in the United States of America and attended Evanston College, Lake Forest College and Oklahoma City University where he obtained the degree of Doctor of Juridical Science in 1982 In 1984, he was called to the Nigerian Bar as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. Dr. Onyechi Ikpeazu has been in active legal practice till date and has served as Chairman of the Onitsha Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association and a NEC (National Executive Council) member of the national body, NBA. In recognition of his advocacy skills in 2002 he was conferred with the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria, (SAN) and in 2007, he was honoured by the Federal Republic of Nigeria under President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua with the National Honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger, (OON). He is a fellow at the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and is also a member of the Nigerian Body of Benchers. Some of the landmark cases handled by Dr. Ikpeazu include MOJEKWU V. MOJEKWU; MOJEKWU V. IWUCHUKWU preserving the inheritance right of a woman; NGIGE V OBI reported in (2006) 14 NWLR (Part 999) 1, a decision that brought Mr. Peter Obi to office as the duly elected Governor of Anambra State. His adroit display of rare forensic advocacy skills led to the trail-blazing decision of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in the case of OBI v INEC (2007)11NWLR (Part 1046)565, which case effectively re-calibrated the election metric rule in the hitherto uniform quadrennial elections into the office of Governors of States in Nigeria. Consequently, a candidate who was wrongly kept out of office after an election he rightly won, would still enjoy un-interrupted his four-year tenure guaranteed under the extant Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria with effect from the date he took Oath of Office as the Governor of the State, barring such other circumstances as death and impeachment. Dr. Ikpeazu conducted the defence of INEC in several election Petitions including the Presidential Election Petition that arose from the General Election in 2011 He also led the defence of INEC in several Governorship Election Petitions arising from the 2015 General election, including;
RIVERS STATE
AKWA IBOM STATE
DELTA STATE
ABIA STATE
EBONYI STATE
ENUGU STATE
BAYELSA STATE
EDO STATE
He equally led the team of lawyers that represented Senator Ademola Adeleke in the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Dr. Ikpeazu is also a lead counsel in several State Governorship Election Petitions and appeals arising from the recently concluded General Elections 2019;
OGUN STATE
