The duo's participation in the "designathon" competition, organized by the Washington College of Medicine in collaboration with the Nigeria Institute of Medical Research and which focuses on raising awareness and promoting uptake of the Human Papillomavirus infection (HPV) vaccination, propelled them to victory ahead of thousands of other entries.
Their innovative approach and unwavering dedication to HPV awareness not only secured them the coveted championship but also earned them recognition for the Most Innovative Idea and Audience Choice Awards.

🎓31 Nurses were inducted into the Nursing Profession today as the 4th Set of LASUCOM BNSc. Graduates by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) in the presence of the entire College, family members & well wishers who graced the occasion to felicitate with the Inductees.
The Ceremony officially brings the sum total of inducted Nurses under the umbrella of LASUCOM to (110) further extolling a tally which commenced in 2021 when the first set of just 14 Nurses were inducted.

🗞️ CELEBRATING 25 YEARS OF EXCELLENCE IN MEDICAL EDUCATION; LASUCOM concludes Silver Jubilee Celebration with Grand Awards Ceremony.
With figures draped in vibrant colors and an atmosphere of bash and revelry, the Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM) held a Founders' Day Lecture and Awards Ceremony on Friday 9th of February, 2024 to wrap up its week-long culmination of festivities organized to commemorate a quarter-century journey of Medical Education that was birthed in 1999.
The Governor of Lagos State and Special Guest of Honor for the Ceremony – Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu was ably represented by Honorable Commissioner for Health – Prof. Akin Abayomi and Honorable Commissioner for Tertiary Education – Mr. Sule Akibu.
The Provost of the College - Prof. Abiodun Adewuya in his welcome address proudly reminisced on the beginning of the 25-year journey, accomplishments achieved, expressed gratitude to the cornerstones of the institution and recognized the significant roles of the various awardees in helping the College fulfil its mission of excellence in Medical Education like the HC Environment, Barr. Tokunbo Wahab, Former HC Health – Dr. Jide Idris, Chairperson LASUCOM Court of Governors – Dr. Juliana Olufunke Lawson and Community leader/dedicated Philanthropist – Mr. Aderemi Makanjuola.
“Today, we gather not only to celebrate the achievements of LASUCOM but also to express our gratitude to individuals who have played significant role in supporting the college's mission. These individuals have contributed their time, resources, and expertise to ensure the success and growth of LASUCOM. Their unwavering support has been instrumental in shaping the college into what it is today” he stated.
As the ceremony progressed, the Honorable Commissioners took to the stage, expressing their profound admiration for the institution's contributions to healthcare and medical advancements in the region. They congratulated the College on its feat lauded the Founding fathers and management for their unwavering commitment to attaining excellence and the role of the College in producing skilled healthcare professionals who have made significant strides in improving public health outcomes.
A notable highlight from the Ceremony was the 25th Founders’ Day Lecture titled “Health Professions education in Nigeria; Navigating Challenges and Seizing Opportunities in the 21st Century” given by the Keynote Speaker for the Ceremony and Vice Chancellor of Medical Sciences Ondo State, Prof. Adesegun O. Fatusi.
As the Sun set on the Ceremony and the venue, the College situated in the Heart of Africa’s most populous city was bathed with the aura of boundless possibilities for the future. Invited guests, staff and the College Community partied in the festive ambience that also served as a strong reminder of the transformative power of education and the importance of community.
With hearts full of gratitude and hope, attendees departed, carrying with them memories that will last a lifetime and a renewed sense of purpose in advancing the Lagos State University College of Medicine to even greater heights.
🗞️Beyond the Walls; LASUCOM takes Silver Jubilee Celebration to its Community in Medical Outreach Program 🩺
On Wednesday 7th February, the College in Conjunction with Dept of Community Health organised a Medical Outreach & Health Awareness exercise for our community to mark the 6th Day of our 25th Anniversary Festivities. The program featured various Health talks, free medical consultations, health screenings, check-ups, counselling & distribution of free drugs to attendees.
Present to surveil the program was the Dean FCS, Prof Kikelomo Wright.
💬🎤A riveting display of strong opinions clashing highlighted the "Students Inter-Faculty Debate" in honour of the College's Silver Jubilee Celebration on Monday 5th February.
The discourse focused on the "Drug Crisis amongst Youth and who should be liable" & pitted two teams consisting of students across 4 faculties. The team from the Faculties of Basic Medical & Clinical Sciences clinched the Top Prize & were personally awarded a cash prize of N200,000 by the Provost while the runner up walked away with N100,000.

⚽🎖️ LASUCOM Alumni and Students Reunited on the Football Pitch on Saturday 3rd February in honour of the College's 25th Anniversary Celebration.
The Football Match, which marked the 2nd Day of Festivities saw, 'College Old Boys' clash with present students in a thrilling show of skills, goals and drama to the delight of the Provost, Prof. Abiodun Adewuya, his Deputy- Prof. Olufemi Idowu amongst other top management staff, students and the College community present at the sports complex.

Following a special Jumat Prayer on Friday 2nd Feb. to kick-off 25th Anniversary festivities, the Provost - Prof. Abiodun Adewuya, in an uplifting speech to the College Islamic Community expressed his gratitude for the support shown to the institution since its inception and canvassed for the maintenance of the shared harmony as it expands in the years to come.
Lagos State University College of Medicine begins its week-long Silver Jubilee celebration today.
The week-long celebration begins today, the 2nd of February, to the 9th of February, 2024. The celebration will feature Novelty Football matches between LASUCOM alumni and LASUCOM students, an inter-faculty debate, and a healthy awareness drive at the Ikeja local government, among other significant events.
All students and members of the LASUCOM community are welcome to celebrate and partake in the activities celebrating LASUCOM's 25 years of medical excellence.
🗞️ LASUCOM UNVEILS PLANS FOR 25TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION……..Provost reaffrims harmonious relationship between the College and State.
As the Lagos State University College of Medicine counts down to the official kick-off day of its week-long Silver-Jubilee Celebration themed - Celebrating 25 years of excellence in medical education, the College briefed press men across the state on Tuesday 30th January, 2024 of the grand plans that have been set in place to commemorate the epic milestone.
The Provost of the College, Prof. Abiodun Adewuya went down memory lane as he noted the contributions of the College’s founding fathers to the exponential growth of LASUCOM over the years in order to meet the demand for well-trained medical and allied medical personnel and has also necessitated the planned expansion of the current facilities; including lecture/seminar halls, laboratories, hostel accommodations as well as critical human resource in terms of quality and quantity.
“I am proud to say that the College has benefited unalloyed support and commitment from the Lagos State Government over the years for which LASUCOM has in turn delivered unparallelled and enduring value” he thankfully stated.
The Provost noted that, beyond the College primary function of training young health professionals, it also prides itself on fostering a mutual cooperation with the local community and the state for the betterment of Society.
He stated “Since LASUCOM started 25 years ago, we have made sure that between the town and the gown, we shake hands. Most of the state health policies and programmmes that are rolled out are influenced by their relative departments in the College”
The Deputy Provost and Chairman 25th Anniversary Committee, Prof. Olufemi Idowu, while briefing the press on the programme of events the College had lined for the Anniversary stated that a Jumat service will kick off the “Silver Jubilee” festivities on Friday, February 2nd at the LASUTH mosque.
Novelty Football match between LASUCOM Alumni and LASUCOM students will hold on Saturday February 3rd at the College Sport Complex, while a thanksgiving service will hold on Sunday February 4th at the Chapel Of St. Luke The Physician within the premises.
Inter-Faculty debate will be held on Monday February 5th; Novelty Matches between LASUTH and LASUCOM will be held on Tuesday 6th February, Health Awareness Drive will be held at the Ikeja Local government on Wednesday, February 7th.
Alumni engagement with the students will hold on Thursday February 8th while the grand finale and Founders’ Day Anniversary lecture titled “Health Professions Education in Nigeria–Navigating Challenges And Seizing Opportunities In The 21st Century” to be delivered by Prof. Adesegun Fatusi, Vice-Chancellor, University Of Medical Sciences, Ondo State will draw the curtain on the festivities on Friday, 9th of February, 2024.

🗞️“GENTLE VETERAN OF HAEMATOLOGY” RETIRES: Professor Dosunmu’s Nobility Echoes in Retirement Faculty Lecture.
In a poignant and stirring ceremony, renowned Haematologist and one of the most Veteran Professors in the Lagos State University College of Medicine, Professor Adedoyin Dosunmu, bid farewell to a distinguished career with a memorable faculty lecture in the College on Wednesday 24th January, 2024.
The event was well attended by faculty members, academic and non-academic staff, hospital staff and esteemed guests who converged to celebrate a legacy of mentorship and servitude to humanity that spanned several decades.
The Provost of the College, Prof. A.O Adewuya, before commencing his opening remarks, led a “gleeful Happy Birthday Chant for the beloved septuagenarian who he described as a tolerable personality and great clinician. “He is a respectable gentle man to the core who is still a very good mentor and a character who would be hard to let go off”.
The Dean, Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences, Prof. Omoniyi Yemitan in his welcome address described the Professor of Haematology as a noteworthy exemplification of meekness and clemency who has touched the lives of every person he came across.
The lecture, titled "The Journey from Macro-Medical practice to Nano-Medicine," showcased the professor's profound expertise and experience in the field of Haematology. Attendees of the lecture were treated to a captivating exploration of the professor's life's work and the evolution of his academic and professional discipline.
The heart of the lecture focused on Professor Dosunmu’s early years as a medical student in and beyond the shores of the country, scholarly contributions, including groundbreaking research, influential publications and mentorship experiences with students who have gone on to make significant impacts in their respective fields.
A quote worthy of note from his lecture followed his return to the country after studying in Romania. He stated “I arrived back in Lagos Nigeria in November 1980. I considered Lagos crowded, very hot, damp and dusty but *I STILL FELT AT HOME*”
Addressing the audience with a mix of humility and wisdom, Professor Dosunmu shared tales from their early years in academia and medical career, reminiscing about the challenges and triumphs that shaped his intellectual and life journey. The lecture wove together personal reflections, scholarly insights, and a vision for the future of the discipline, leaving a lasting impact on those in attendance.
Family members, Patients, Academic & Professional Colleagues, students, past and present were availed the opportunity to share testimonials of the Veteran Professor and many spoke warmly of the meek and fatherly approach the retiring professor had to addressing issues and handling affairs and also acknowledged not only his scholarly contributions but the lasting influence of his counsel and the invaluable guidance received during critical junctures in their academic and personal lives.
Prof M.A Oludara, Professor of Surgery and a longtime colleague of the Haematology Maestro for over three decades, expressed gratitude for the mentorship and camaraderie shared over the years. "Professor Dosunmu is a man of integrity and true scholar who has demonstrated humility at every level and I am happy to be celebrating a true academician today as I wish him many more years of untiring service”.
Professor Dosunmu may be retiring but the impact of his legacy will untiringly resound through the countless students and colleagues inspired by a career marked by passion, dedication, an unwavering commitment to the pursuit of knowledge and most of all compassion for humanity shaped thoroughly by the nobility and meekness of his character.

🗞️On the invitation of the Provost, the LAGOS STATE MINISTRY OF HEALTH Directorate of Disease control, conducted a Hepatitis screening and vaccination exercise for Clinical year students in the college today.
The State Viral Hepatitis Coordinator - Lagos State Ministry of Health, Dr. Mazeedat Erinosho, who led the team, described the exercise as a laudable effort on the part of the State, Ministry and the College that will not only protect future clinicians and health care professionals but also create awareness for the "silent killer" known as Hepatitis.

🗞️ LASUCOM EGBA FORUM CELEBRATES YEARLY ANNIVERSARY PRAYER IN STYLE
The Lagos State University College of Medicine Egba Indigene Forum celebrated its 2024 anniversary prayer with enthusiasm.
The event, the second in its series, took place on January 11, 2024, at the FBMS/FBCS Auditorium and was attended by Egba indigenes, including both academic and non-academic staff of the College.
During the celebration, College Provost and Chairman, Prof. Abiodun Adewuya, commended the Forum for its foresight and proactiveness, emphasizing the positive impact of association formations.
Prof Adewuya who spoke in Yoruba dialet, stressed the importance of fostering good relationships within associations. He acknowledged the collective efforts that contributed to the success of the Forum yearly celebrations.
Prof. Adewuya encouraged members to support one another, particularly those in need.
He applauded the Forum's plan to build hostels for indigenes and urged them to serve as counselors and mentors to indigenous students .
He called on other indigenes in the College to emulate the positive example set by the Egba forum.
The Chairman of the Egba Forum, Mr. Abayomi Ajikobi, expressed gratitude to the College for its support since the forum's inauguration a year ago.
He clarified the forum's purpose, highlighting its commitment to giving back to society and reciprocating the benefits received from the Lagos State Government.
During the event, Prof. Akinsegun Akinbami delivered a lecture on "Preparation Before Death," emphasizing the importance of preparing for the inevitability of death.
Barrister Enitinwa discussed the legal aspects of wills, stressing the significance of creating and amending a will in good health.
Notable dignitaries, including Deputy Provost Prof. Olufemi Idowu, Dean of the Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences Prof. O.k. Yemitan, and College Acting Librarian Dr. S. O. Ladipo, shared their experiences and insights at the occasion.
🗞️The entire LASUCOM Court of Governors, led by its Chairperson - Dr. Olufunke Juliana Lawson paid a formal visit to the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Wednesday, 10th January, 2024.
The Vice Chancellor of the Lagos State University (LASU) Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, the College Provost - Professor Abiodun Adewuya and the Chief Medical Director LASUTH - Prof Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo (also members of the Court) were likewise present for the courtesy call.

🗞️🎓LASUCOM HOLDS GLITTERING INDUCTION CEREMONY FOR SECOND BATCH OF 17th AND 7th SET OF MBBS/BDS GRADUATES.
In a celebration of academic achievement, the Lagos State University College of Medicine inducted the Second Batch of its 17th Set of Graduating Medical Doctors and 7th Set of Graduating Dental Surgeons on Wednesday 27th December, 2023 at its campus in Ikeja.
The event, which follows the 1st Batch who were unveiled and inducted on the 31st of August, was held in the college's expansive FBCS/FBMS auditorium and showcased a vibrant display of accomplishment, dedication, and the promising future awaiting the new healthcare professionals.
Families and friends gathered in anticipation, creating an atmosphere charged with enthusiasm and pride.
The ceremony commenced with the arrival of the graduates adorned in their traditional academic regalia surrounded by family members, well wishers and followed by esteemed College executives and faculty members.
The Provost of the College Prof. Abiodun Adewuya who was represented by his Deputy, Prof. Olufemi Idowu, welcomed the attendees and dignitaries to the ceremony, emphasizing the significance of the day and the immense responsibility that comes with being a healthcare professional.
"We stand here today to honor the dedication and hard work of these brilliant individuals who have successfully completed their rigorous medical and dental education. Today marks not only the end of their academic journey but also the beginning of their service to humanity," Prof. Idowu stated with conviction.
He encouraged the graduates to always remember their Alma mater as they commenced their professional journey saying "As you commence this next chapter, remember that you are not alone as LASUCOM continues to be your stronghold, providing support and mentorship throughout your journey".
The Medical Elder for the Ceremony was one of the College's most distinguished Haematologist, Professor A.O Dosunmu who with wisdom and humour, encouraged the graduates to embrace the challenges of the profession and remain steadfast in their commitment to healthcare excellence.
"You are going into a complex world and I enjoin you to develop the wisdom to simplify those situations" he said whilst also charging them to make good use of the opportunities their license brings them.
In the usual fashion, the highlight of the ceremony was the administration of the Hippocratic Oath and the distribution of certificates which was chaperoned by the MDCN Registrar, Dr. T.A.B Sanusi.
As each graduate rose to receive their well-deserved recognition and recite the Oath, the room echoed with applause and cheers from their peers and families.
The Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) Dr. T A.B Sanusi in his goodwill message to the Inductees, described the ceremony as not just a celebration but a serious call for "Service to Humanity" and "Sober Reflection".
He reminded the graduates of the importance of dispatching excellent health care service and upholding the highest standards of medical and dental care as the embarked on the next and most important chapter of their careers.
"You owe the patients in your care a committed duty of care that should not be broken by political or societal factors" Dr. Sanusi reminded them.
The New Doctors and Dental Surgeons, now officially inducted into the medical and dental council, left the auditorium with a sense of accomplishment and a commitment to upholding the values of the Lagos State University and it's esteemed College of Medicine.
As the second batch of 17th MBBS and 7th BDS LASUCOM graduates embark on their professional journeys, the medical college continues to shine as a beacon of education and excellence, contributing to the ever-evolving landscape of healthcare with each graduating class.
