On World Food Day, at She Farmers Initiative, we aim to end hunger and malnutrition and to provide food security and nutrition for all.
But how can we do this in a world with growing challenges and limited resources?

📌We need innovation and transformation. We need to rethink our food system to make it more sustainable, equitable, and efficient. We need to use science and technology to create new solutions that can feed the world without harming the planet.

One of these solutions is precision fermentation. This is a process that uses microorganisms or plant cells to produce nutrients that are identical to animal products, but without animals, land, water, or crops. Precision fermentation can make high-quality food with zero waste, lower cost, and lower environmental impact.

📌Imagine a world where you can enjoy animal-free food without any negative consequences.

📌Imagine a world where you can get all the nutrition you need from a simple pill or a drink.

Imagine a world where food is abundant, accessible, and affordable for everyone.
This is not a fantasy. This is the future that precision fermentation can offer us. It is already happening in some parts of the world, where companies are making animal-free meat, dairy, eggs, and seafood using this technology.

📌It will soon become mainstream and widely available.

But precision fermentation is not enough.

📌We also need to change our food habits and attitudes. We need to eat less processed and junk food that are unhealthy and wasteful.

We need to eat more plant-based food that are good for our health and the environment. We need to value food as a precious resource that should not be wasted or taken for granted.

We have the power to end hunger and malnutrition in our lifetime.

📌We have the tools and the knowledge to create a better food system for ourselves and future generations.

We have the responsibility and the opportunity to make a difference.

📌This World Food Day, let us celebrate precision fermentation and other innovations that can transform the way we eat.

✅Let us make smart choices that can benefit our health and the planet. Let us work together to ensure food security and nutrition for all.

Happy World Food Day - Let's Take Collective Action! 🌍

Happy World Food Day! 🍎🌽 Today, we're not just celebrating the joy of food, but also the responsibility that comes with it.

Why is today important?

Across 150 countries, hundreds of events aim to raise awareness about hunger, food security, and the importance of sustainable practices. We have always believed in the same values here at She Farmers Initiative.

What can we do to lend our voices and take actions that will help our 🌎.

🌱 Sustainable Choices - To consciously choose locally-sourced food ingredients for all home’s consumption to reduce the world’s carbon footprint.

💧 Water is Life - To optimize less consumption of water because we recognize the importance of this precious resource.m therefore we all must avoid wastage of any sort.

👫 Community - We actively engage in community events to foster a collective sense of responsibility towards a sustainable food future in our women focused community.

🍞 Quality & Passion - Every food produced , processed and packaged by our women across the country is a testament to the skill and love we pour into our craft and contribution to wellness and prosperity.

Today, let's remember the connection between what we eat, how it's produced, and the water it consumes. Let's strive to be part of the solution. Join us in making a day of action and awareness.

🌱🍞 Together, we can take water action for food and be the change. 🍞🌱

Pecans are delicious, nutrient-rich nuts native to North America and are often enjoyed in pies, baked goods, and as a healthy snack. While most commercial pecan trees are grown from grafted trees, you can also grow pecan trees from seeds, which is a more affordable and rewarding option. However, growing pecans from seeds takes time, patience, and attention. In this comprehensive guide, we will take you through the step-by-step process of how to grow pecans from seeds successfully.

Table of Contents

Selecting the Right Pecan Seeds
Preparing the Seeds for Planting
Planting Pecan Seeds
Caring for Pecan Seedlings
Transplanting Pecan Trees
Pecan Tree Maintenance
Harvesting Pecan Nuts

Conclusion
1. Selecting the Right Pecan Seeds

To start growing pecans from seeds, you’ll need high-quality, viable seeds. Here’s what to consider:

Variety: Choose pecan varieties suited to your region. Common varieties include Desirable, Elliot, and Pawnee.
Freshness: Use seeds from the most recent harvest, as they are more likely to be viable. Discard any seeds that show signs of mold or rot.

2. Preparing the Seeds for Planting

Before you plant pecan seeds, they should go through a process called stratification to simulate winter conditions. Follow these steps:

Collect the Seeds: Gather your pecans as soon as they fall from the tree in autumn. Remove the husks and allow the seeds to air dry for several days.
Stratify the Seeds: Place the seeds in a plastic bag with a mixture of moist peat moss and perlite. Seal the bag and keep it in the refrigerator for about 3-4 months. This mimics the cold winter period necessary for germination.

3. Planting Pecan Seeds

Once the stratification period is over, it’s time to plant your pecan seeds. Here’s how to do it:

Select a Suitable Location: Choose a sunny spot with well-draining soil. Pecan trees require full sun to thrive.
Prepare the Soil: Work the soil to a depth of 2-3 feet and amend it with organic matter to improve drainage. Pecan trees prefer slightly acidic soil with a pH of 6.0 to 6.5.
Plant the Seeds: Plant the stratified pecan seeds about 1 to 2 inches deep. Space the seeds at least 30-40 feet apart, as pecan trees grow large.
Mulch: Apply a layer of mulch around the seedlings to conserve moisture and suppress w**ds.

4. Caring for Pecan Seedlings

Growing pecan trees from seeds requires patience and proper care. Here’s what you need to do to ensure their success:

Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Young seedlings are vulnerable to drought, so maintain adequate moisture.
Fertilizing: Fertilize your pecan seedlings with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer. Follow the package instructions, and apply it in early spring.
W**d Control: Regularly w**d around the base of the seedlings to prevent competition for nutrients and water.

5. Transplanting Pecan Trees

After your pecan seedlings have grown for 1-2 years, they’ll be ready for transplanting. Follow these steps:

Choose a Location: Select a permanent spot with full sun, proper spacing, and well-draining soil.
Prepare the Hole: Dig a hole twice the size of the root ball and amend it with compost or organic matter.
Transplant Carefully: Gently remove the seedling from its current location, taking care not to damage the roots. Plant it in the prepared hole at the same depth it was growing before.

6. Pecan Tree Maintenance

Maintaining mature pecan trees involves several key practices:

Pruning: Prune the tree to remove dead or diseased branches and to improve air circulation.
Pest and Disease Management: Keep an eye out for common pecan pests like aphids and pecan weevils. Treat any infestations promptly.
Irrigation: Provide deep, consistent watering, especially during dry periods.
Fertilization: Continue to fertilize your pecan tree regularly to support nut production.

7. Harvesting Pecan Nuts

Pecan trees typically start producing nuts 4-8 years after planting. Here’s how to harvest pecans:

Timing: Harvest when the nuts start to fall naturally or when the husks begin to split.
Collection: Collect the fallen nuts daily or use a mechanical shaker to remove the nuts from the tree.
Processing: Remove the husks and dry the nuts thoroughly. Store them in a cool, dry place.

8. Conclusion

Growing pecan nuts from seeds is a rewarding process that requires dedication and patience. By selecting the right seeds, providing proper care throughout their growth, and maintaining mature trees, you can enjoy a bountiful harvest of pecans for years to come. Keep in mind that pecan trees can live for many decades, providing you with a continuous source of delicious and nutritious nuts.

FACTS ABOUT CHARCOAL
Charcoal is something you must have on you all the time. In Case you never paid much attention, it's time to do it.

Here are the benefits of charcoal you never thought of:

1. Does your shoe smell bad? Just buy charcoal and put it in it.

2. Do you have a bad smell in your room? Drop Charcoal that you think the smell might come from.

3. Does your refrigerator or freezer have a smell? Put a piece of coal in it.

4. Do you have a strong body smell? Just make a charcoal powder and use. Charcoal is very good to get rid of the bad smell.

5. Have you ever wondered why your parents always pick up the ashes of the coal pot to pour in the hen or toilet before sweeping? It was to get rid of the smell.

6. If you want your vegetables to be fresh all the time, make a solution with charcoal and leave your vegetables.

7. Nowadays, people complain about the use of fertilizer on plants and vegetables, making them unhealthy and toxic. If you have charcoal, you don't have to worry about it. All you need to do is leave the vegetables in a charcoal solution during the night and it will take care of the toxins.

8. If you suspect that a food contains too many chemicals, simply drop them in a charcoal solution for a few hours and you are ready to leave.

9. If you want to whiten your teeth, don't pay attention to all these ads on chemicals and bleaching technology. Just get charcoal and catch a plantain stem. Make a powder on charcoal, crush the end of the plantain stem, soak in charcoal powder and brush your teeth with a week.

10. Did your peanut or palm soup go wrong? You don't have to worry about everything. Just put it on fire and drop a piece of charcoal. This will extract all the bad taste and smell and restore soup to its fresh state.

11. Do you have a hangover of a drink with friends the previous night? Just have charcoal with you and chew on it. To make it more effective, make it a nice solution and drink. You're good at it.

13. Do you have a situation where someone's injury has become so infected that doctors say they have to cut the affected area? Don't insist on it, take a large amount of coal powder and pour it on the wound. This will help extract all the poison from the wound and help it heal faster. If you have a cup and you want to treat it quickly, take charcoal powder and pour on it.

14. Do you feel like your water is contaminated? You don't need all these products on the market. Charcoal can do better, just drop part of it. Don't worry about the color, for sure, you can even chew charcoal. It's a lot safer than eating kfc chicken.
