LASG FROWNS AT NON-COMPLIANCE WITH ACADEMIC CALENDAR BY SOME SCHOOLS

The Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA), has frowned at the non-compliance with the stipulated academic calendar by some schools in the State, just as it begins the compilation of names of those that refused to comply with the Tuesday 4th January, 2022, resumption date.

The Director-General of OEQA, Mrs. Abiola Seriki-Ayeni reiterated that part of the mandate of the Office is to develop a harmonised school calendar in conjunction with stakeholders in the education sector and ensure compliance, stressing that the monitoring exercise embarked upon by the officials of the Agency was to appraise the level of compliance with the resumption date, students’ presence and COVID-19 safety protocols.

Revealing that some schools disobeyed the directive, the DG explained that the Y2021/2022 harmonised school calendar was developed in conjunction with stakeholders in June 2021 to ensure uniformity in the education system. She said the agreement was communicated to all schools and associations to ensure equal educational standards and learning systems.

The Director-General, who decried noncompliance with the approved resumption date, said: “Last term, it was observed that despite extensive sensitisation on the importance of having a synchronised school calendar, many schools refused to comply with the mid-term break as mandated in accordance with the academic calendar”.

“During our recent exercise to monitor the level of compliance with Tuesday 4th January, 2022 resumption date, we observed that the level of compliance was low. We are going to notify the schools that have not adhered to the academic calendar with ‘Notice of Non-Compliance’ stickers and issue letters of invitation to the Administrators to visit our office in Alausa where further disciplinary actions will be taken”, the Director-General stated.

She emphasised the need for all schools, public and private, to comply with the academic calendar in order to ensure that an equal system of learning in all schools in Lagos State is achieved.

Seriki-Ayeni, therefore, urged school owners to communicate effectively with parents to prepare their wards early for resumption, stating that it takes an entire term to prepare for an upcoming term.

The Director-General also implored school owners to focus on values in schools and engage parents, students and staff on the need to come to school prepared in order to have a strong start.

04/01/2022

The Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board hereby notify Parents and Guardians in Lagos State that Public Primary Schools in the state have resumed the 2nd term of the Y2021/2022 academic session today, Tuesday, 4th, January, 2022.

In Yorubaland, money has never been foremost in Yoruba value system. In our value system money is number six.

What are the first five you may ask?
1. The first is làákà’yè - The application of knowledge, wisdom & understanding... (Ogbón and ìmò òye)

2. The second is Ìwà Omolúàbí - (integrity) Someone with integrity is a man/woman of their words. If you have all the wealth in the world but lack integrity, you are not worth a thing. Integrity is combined with iwa, (character) which we regard as Omolúàbí.

3. The third is Akínkanjú or Akin - (Valour)
That is why Balóguns is second-in-command to the leaders in Yoruba land.
Balóguns are people that can lead them to war. To lead with great courage in the face of danger, especially in battle. Yoruba people have no respect for cowards.

4. The fourth is Anísélápá tí kìíse òle - (Having a visible means of livelihood) A person must be identified with a visible means of livelihood that guarantees a lawful income or sustenance. His or her profession or job must be open and legally approved by society, and not through cheating or forcefulness.

5. The fifth is iyi - (Honour) Yoruba people place a premium on the gait with which individuals carry themselves and public reputation.
That is why Yorùbá people usually say when you set out to look for money and you meet honour on the way then you don't need the journey anymore, because if you get the money, you will still use it to buy honour.

6. The last in the Yorùbá value system is owó tàbí orò - (Money or wealth) If putting money ahead of the other five, then you are nobody in Yoruba land of the olden days. Unfortunately, this is being pushed to the front burner nowadays due to the erosion of our value system.

Please feel free to share with fellow Yoruba sons and daughters.

©️Good Day to you all

SOME SOCIAL RULES THAT MAY HELP YOU:

1. Don’t call someone more than twice continuously. If they don’t pick up your call, presume they have something important to attend to;

2. Return money that you have borrowed even before the person that borrowed you remember or ask for it. It shows your integrity and character. Same goes with umbrellas, pens and lunch boxes.

3. Never order the expensive dish on the menu when someone is giving you a lunch/dinner.

4. Don’t ask awkward questions like ‘Oh so you aren’t married yet?’ Or ‘Don’t you have kids’ or ‘Why didn’t you buy a house?’ Or why don't you buy a car? For God’s sake it isn’t your problem;

5. Always open the door for the person coming behind you. It doesn’t matter if it is a guy or a girl, senior or junior. You don’t grow small by treating someone well in public;

6. If you take a taxi with a friend and he/she pays now, try paying next time;

7. Respect different shades of opinions. Remember what's 6 to you will appear 9 to someone facing you. Besides, second opinion is good for an alternative;

8. Never interrupt people talking. Allow them to pour it out. As they say, hear them all and filter them all;

9. If you tease someone, and they don’t seem to enjoy it, stop it and never do it again. It encourages one to do more and it shows how appreciative you're;

10. Say “thank you” when someone is helping you.

11. Praise publicly. Criticize privately;

12. There’s almost never a reason to comment on someone’s weight. Just say, “You look fantastic.” If they want to talk about losing weight, they will;

13. When someone shows you a photo on their phone, don’t swipe left or right. You never know what’s next;

14. If a colleague tells you they have a doctors' appointment, don’t ask what it’s for, just say "I hope you’re okay". Don’t put them in the uncomfortable position of having to tell you their personal illness. If they want you to know, they'll do so without your inquisitiveness;

15. Treat the cleaner with the same respect as the CEO. Nobody is impressed at how rude you can treat someone below you but people will notice if you treat them with respect;

16. If a person is speaking directly to you, staring at your phone is rude;

17. Never give advice until you’re asked;

18. When meeting someone after a long time, unless they want to talk about it, don’t ask them their age and salary;

19. Mind your business unless anything involves you directly - just stay out of it;

20. Remove your sunglasses if you are talking to anyone in the street. It is a sign of respect. Moreso, eye contact is as important as your speech; and

21. Never talk about your riches in the midst of the poor. Similarly, don't talk about your children in the midst of the barren.

22.After reading a good message made by me try to say" Thanks for the message" in de comment section...
APPRECIATION remains the easiest way of getting what you don't have.

LASUBEB INTRODUCES "CLUSTER TRAINING MODEL" IN PUBLIC PRIMARY SCHOOLS

The Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, LASUBEB, in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, has introduced a new model of training into public primary schools that will ensure that Head Teachers, Teachers and Education Managers are given specific training that is in tandem with their assigned responsibilities.

The new model called "Cluster Training Model" is an improvement on the former "Cascade Model", which focuses on training Head Teachers alone, who in return cascade the training to other teachers in form of a "train-the-trainers" approach.

Speaking during a stakeholders’ engagement organised by LASUBEB and UBEC to sensitise stakeholders in the State's primary education sector in Lagos, the Chairman LASUBEB, Mr. Wahab Alawiye-King disclosed that the clustering model being introduced will promote efficient and effective learning in Public Primary Schools in Lagos.

The Chairman described the existing "Cascade model" as an abstract replica of reality, adding that the model is now being replaced with an all-encompassing model in line with the Education and Technology pillar of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda.

He explained that the sensitisation programme will provide an avenue to prepare, advocate and collaborate with the stakeholders in delivering constructive, impactful and resourceful basic education in the State.

Alawiye averred that the clustering system was developed as a strategy that will help enhance the capacity of Teachers and Education Managers to improve learning at the National, Regional and Local level of the Basic Education System through mandatory professional development, weekly cluster meetings, regular lessons observation, experience sharing and lesson success evaluation.

According to him, “The new model being adopted now is encompassed with the hierarchical model, clustering model, density-based model and model clustering models which will not only improve digital education but will also promote advocacy and sensitisation in addition to the provision of action plan and selection of participants”.

"We have moved from analogue to digital teaching and learning. That is, we no longer practise summative assessment; we have adopted the quality assurance model where we provide support for teachers rather than finding fault in them", he added

Alawiye-King, therefore, urged the stakeholders to take ownership of the model and sensitise other relevant stakeholders within their immediate communities on the clustering system aimed at promoting quality assurance in basic education system.
