Triboulet was a jester for Louis XII, King of France from 1498 to 1515. He is best known for slapping the king on the buttocks, which greatly angered Louis XII. In response, the king threatened to have Triboulet executed. However, after calming down, the king spared Triboulet's life on the condition that he come up with an apology more offensive than his previous action.

Triboulet's clever response was, "I'm so sorry, your majesty, that I didn't recognize you! I mistook you for the Queen!" This, though offensive, violated an order against making fun of the queen. Consequently, the king still considered executing Triboulet but allowed him to choose his method of ex*****on. In a humorous turn of events, Triboulet chose to "die from old age" for the sake of the patrons of insanity, Saint Nitouche and Saint Pansard. The king, speechless, could only laugh and decided to banish Triboulet instead of carrying out the ex*****on.

Helmet graffiti during the Vietnam War.

"A true war story is never moral. It does not instruct, nor encourage virtue, nor suggest models of proper human behavior, nor restrain men from doing the things men have always done. If a story seems moral, do not believe it. If at the end of a war story you feel uplifted, or if you feel that some small bit of rectitude has been salvaged from the larger waste, then you have been made the victim of a very old and terrible lie. There is no rectitude whatsoever. There is no virtue. As a first rule of thumb, therefore, you can tell a true war story by its absolute and uncompromising allegiance to obscenity and evil."

The Ford Aurora I station wagon from 1969 has a unique design. From the outside, it appears to be a typical station wagon with wood paneling. However, upon closer inspection, you'll find that the interior boasts a wrap-around couch and a passenger seat that can rotate 180 degrees, allowing for face-to-face socializing with passengers in the rear. The rear of the car is also fully padded, providing additional seating.

The Ford Aurora II, although designed, never made it to the market, likely due to safety regulations. Notably, this car lacked seatbelts, reflecting the controversy surrounding seatbelt use in the 40s and 50s. Despite overwhelming evidence of their life-saving benefits, many people believed seatbelts were dangerous and even removed them from their cars.

Interestingly, there are still advocates against seatbelt use today. In the early 2000s, one such advocate argued, "Uncle Sam is not here to regulate every facet of life regardless of the consequences." Tragically, he later died in a car crash after being ejected from his vehicle because he wasn't wearing a seatbelt.

Mary Fields aka Stagecoach Mary was hired as a mail carrier because she was the fastest applicant to hitch a team of six horses.

She was the first black woman employed as a mail carrier in the US and the second woman to work for the US Postal Service.

—Mary Fields was born enslaved around 1832 and freed following the American Civil War. In 1895, Fields was hired as a mail carrier because she was the fastest applicant to hitch a team of six horses. Fields was the first African American woman, and only the second woman, to work in the United States Postal Service. She got her nickname stagecoach because she never missed a day of work, even showing up during heavy snow by wearing snowshoes and carrying the mail packs on her back.

Fields stood six feet tall, and was a woman who commanded attention. Legend has it she wore a 38 Smith & Weston strapped under her apron and could hit anything within 50 paces.

After quitting the mail route in 1901, Fields opened her own laundry and restaurant with the help of Mother Amadeus, the mother superior of an Ursuline convent in Toledo, Ohio.

Josephine Baker was described as "The most sensational woman anybody ever saw. Or ever will."

Born in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1906, Josephine experienced poverty in childhood, living in cardboard shelters in the slums and dancing on the street to make money. However, the street dancing turned into performing in a vaudeville act, as she pestered a show manager for a role. For that show, she traveled to New York, and her career had begun.

While performing in New York was a good start, her big break came in Paris, where she moved in her late teens to leave the racism of America. In Paris, she thrived. Her dancing life found much success. And it was also while living in Europe that Josephine evolved her artistic career into singing and acting.

Josephine continued to live in Europe. Even as World War II involved France, she chose to stay, joining the French Military Intelligence Agency. In her role with the agency, she used her entertainer status to travel around Europe. And with charm, she engaged others, collecting valuable information, often keeping notes in invisible ink on sheet music.

After the war, Josephine took a more active role in the U.S. Civil Rights movement. She wrote articles about segregation, worked closely with NAACP, spoke at the 1963 March on Washington, and refused to perform in segregated venues - a stance that helped drive integration. It was also during her years of working in the Civil Rights movement that Josephine began adopting children, calling her family the "Rainbow Tribe," as her children were of different races and ethnicities.

Josephine passed away in Paris in 1975. France honored her with a state funeral; she is the only American-born woman to receive this honor

This is Ruth Lee, a hostess at a Chinese restaurant. On December 15th, 1941, on her day off, she went to the beach in Miami to sunbathe as usual. This time, however, she brought with her a Chinese flag so that she would not be mistaken for being Japanese.

Just a week before, on December 7, 1941, "a date which will live in infamy," Japanese planes had attacked U.S. naval bases at Pearl Harbor, killing more than 2,300 Americans.

Two months later, on February 19th, 1942, FDR gave the order to round up nearly 120,000 people of Japanese ancestry and force them into internment camps. Approximately 80,000 of them were born in America and were American citizens.

The flag shown in the photo is the flag of Nationalist China, which went into self-imposed exile to Taiwan after the Communist revolution. Today it is the official flag of Taiwan.

Las Vegas is notoriously known for its bright lights and exciting nightlife. However, in the 1950s, it gained a different kind of fame when the Nevada Testing Site, located just 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, became the location for atomic bomb testing. The Yucca Flats of Nevada, situated in the center of the American wasteland, made it an ideal place for nuclear testing.

Being located in the middle of the desert, it posed minimal threats to surrounding homes. Moreover, it provided a source of spectacle and entertainment for people in the area. This led to an influx of visitors from across the country who traveled thousands of miles to witness this unique show.

Various organizations hosted parties and picnics around the publicly announced atomic bomb testing schedule, and images of these events circulated widely in the news. However, in addition to these gatherings, Las Vegas also took advantage of the nuclear tests by offering itself as a refuge and distraction from the surrounding fear. Gambling, games, and television served as sources of entertainment, providing Vegas guests with an escape from the fear prevailing at the time.

While the 1950s was one of the most exciting decades for Vegas in terms of transforming it into the tourist destination it is today, it was also one of the most unsettling periods. Until the tests concluded, Vegas served not only as a place to escape the challenges of everyday life but also as a refuge from the constant fear that gripped people across the nation. Thus, while this may be one of the darker chapters in its history, it was also one of its brightest.

On November 12, 1833, there was a meteor shower so intense that it was possible to see up to 100,000 meteors crossing the sky every hour. Many at the time believed it was the end of the world, leading Adolf Vollmy to create a woodcut inspired by the event.
