Glad to see you 2017 again. Thank God we all made it!
You are one of the reasons and the lessons thought in life so far that made my years memorable. I bless the day our path cross in our life's journey.

Leaders Must Be Servants

In the book of Mark, chapter 10, we see James and John asking Jesus tbo share in his glory by sitting bat his right and left hand. In such positions, they would receive both honor and exceptional authority. Jesus seized this teachable moment to reveal something radical about his style of leadership. He explained that Gentile leaders “lord it over their people” and “flaunt their authority.” But followers of Jesus must walk a different path.

“Whoever wants to be a leader among you,” Jesus said, “must be your servant.” The Greek original of this reads more literally, “Whoever wants to be great among you must be your servant.” The word translated here as “servant” is diakonos (the word sometimes used to refer to a table waiter). A diakonos cared for the needs of others rather than his or her own needs. It denotes a person who serves in some subservient and humble role.

Jesus's vision of leadership must have shocked his disciples. How can a leader also be a servant? This question continues to unsettle followers of Jesus today. All people tend to seek position and power rather than opportunities for humble service.

Servant leadership is as countercultural today as it was in the time of Jesus. Yet when we are in charge of people, we are called to be their servant. We must treat others with respect, care for their human needs and seek what is best for them, even as we seek the best for the organization in which we are a leader. Following Jesus’s leadership is not easy, but it is our calling as Christians who seek to obey and imitate Jesus.

Reflection

When you hear the phrase “servant leadership,” what or who comes to mind? Have you ever experienced this kind of leadership from one of your leaders?

Prayer

Dear Lord, I am challenged by your vision of servant leadership. This sort of thing doesn't come naturally to me. Lord, transform my thinking and my attitudes. Help me to see the needs of my coworkers and reach out to care for them.

Ecclesiaste 3:1 says that "To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:" and according to Genesis 18:14 and 2Kings 4:16 this 9th month is a time of life. A time of fruitfulness, a time of joy and laughter, a time of dedications; so I declare to you that your month of life is come and you shall have life in every area of your life in Jesus name. Where you have failed before you shall win in this month (luke 5:1-10), where they have called you barren they will call u again mama David, mama Isaac, for your time is come; now receive it in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Welcome to the month of life.

Month of September. It Shall be unto you as.......................

__Scholarships for global leaders of the 21st century.

Great news! For the second year now, I’m excited to tell you about a scholarship program for young people to get a Master’s degree in Global Affairs from one of China’s top universities. If you’re selected, this could really be the chance of a lifetime!

Not only will you expand your learning, but you’ll also share the experience of studying for a year in China with other young leaders from around the world.

If you follow world news – as you should – you’ll know how important this opportunity is for you to take part in and shape trends of the 21st century. If you’re looking to be counted as a global leader, this is one excellent opportunity to prepare yourself!

Last year I joined a group of international donors that support the Schwarzman Scholars program, which each year will select up to 200 talented young people to spend one year living, working and studying together at Schwarzman College at Tsinghua University. This $450m scholarship program was started last year by Stephen Schwarzman, the founder of Blackstone, one of the biggest financial organizations in the world.

Courses will be taught in English and students will study under the tutorship of some of China's leading academics, top academics from other parts of the world, along with business and political leaders, all in a Chinese environment.


The Schwarzman Scholars curriculum was developed in collaboration with academic leaders from Tsinghua, Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, Oxford, Duke – all these are top universities in the world.


Last year, 111 young people from around the world were the very first group to be offered Schwarzman Scholarships. The inaugural class included successful applicants from Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe!

# The submission deadline is coming up soon, on 15 September, but there’s still plenty of time for you to apply if you’re eligible and interested in getting a Master’s degree in Global Affairs.

# This scholarship is fully funded and includes tuition, room and board, international airfare, an in-country study tour, books and supplies, a laptop and smart phone, health insurance and a modest personal stipend.


# To apply, you must have an undergraduate degree (can be in any field) and be between the ages of 18 and not yet reached 29 years of age by August 2017.


If you meet the rigorous requirements and are selected, it could be YOU heading to China to study for a year! It's not enough for you to have excellent grades, though. You need to clearly show your commitment to leading on the global stage. If you don’t have perfect marks, your outstanding contributions in other areas could be the reason you win the scholarship:


# Do you have demonstrated experience in leadership roles on campus, in your communities, your workplace or in other organizations?

# Do you have a demonstrated interest in expanding your educational horizons?


# Can you articulate a clear vision of how and why a year as a Schwarzman Scholar in China will help advance your personal goals (and beyond)?


If this is not for you, perhaps you know of other brilliant young people with leadership experience and potential who you think should apply? Please share this information with them as soon as possible, as the application deadline is 15 September.

In 1990, 36 percent of the world’s 5.2 billion people lived in extreme poverty. In 2012, about 12 percent of 7.3 billion people lived in extreme poverty. I recently spoke at Stanford University about how investing in people’s health has greatly helped to reduce poverty. According to the Lancet Commission, for example, better health outcomes between 2000 and 2011 accounted for 24 percent of growth in “full income” in low- and middle-income countries. Shared prosperity and equal opportunity presented in a very clear way, thank you. Reducing extreme poverty from 12 to 3 % is not easy but doable. I think ending stunted childhood development (which causes brain damage) and stimulating economical growth for all will make it easier to live in shared, prosperous peace together. I cannot wait to do my part as a global citizen. It is wonderful to hear all the evidence and feeling the opening up a lot of possibilities.
