Let's talk about fish disease this beautiful morning 🐟🐟🐟🐟
Disease:DROPSY
DROPSY
Normally describes swelling due to an accumulation of fluid in the tissues or body cavities of a fish. The swelling is due to the fish absorbing water faster than it can eliminate it. It can be caused by parasitic infection, bacterial infection,liver dysfunction and high nitrates.
SYMPTOMS
Swollen abdomen, appears off colour, sunken eyes,hang at the top or stay at the bottom of the pond.
PREVENTION
1 Avoid over crowding in ponds
2 Avoid over stressing fish as stress predispose fish to disease
3 Maintain good water quality
4 Avoid over feeding fish as uneaten feed will decompose and have a negative impact on fish
5 Maintain clean and healthy environment at all times.
TREATMENT
1 Isolate disease fish into a separate pond and change water frequently
2 Prepare a salt bath by adding no more than 2.5 teaspoons of Epsom salt for every ten gallons of water in the pond (1 gallon=3.8litres)
3 Feed fish antibacterial fish food. You can prepare antibacterial fish food by creating a 1% mixture of fish food and an antibiotic like teracycline. Feed fish with the antibacterial food for 7-10 days and monitor their progress.
