NEW NAIRA NOTES: PCC LAGOS CONDUCTS MONITORING EXERCISE IN LAGOS.

In an effort to deliver on its mandate of administrative fairness, equity, justice, and total compliance with policy, the Lagos State Office of the Public Complaints Commission (PCC) conducted a monitoring exercise at various banks in Lagos.

The exercise, which becomes pertinent, was targeted at resolving complaints from the public as a result of depositing the old naira notes at the banks and withdrawing the new notes at the ATM, and high charges by POS operators.

The PCC team led by the Head of Investigation, Mrs. Akinluyi Yemisi visited the First City Monuments Bank (FCMB), McCarthy; First Bank Plc, Berkley Branch; Access Bank Plc, Obalende; and Guarantee Trust Co at Moloney, Lagos.

Findings revealed that based on the higher demands for the new notes, banks have exhausted their supply with huge crowds of customers waiting for their machines to be loaded with cash.

At the time of the visit, FCMB and GTCO were paying via their ATM while Access Bank and First Bank Plc have exhausted their cash. Fund transfer was the only service rendered to customers while they awaits cash delivery from CBN.

In an interaction with the spokespersons for FCMB and GTCO, Mrs. Emelda Ezekiel and Mr. Robert Oputa respectively assured the Commission that, cash loaded on their machines is enough to cater for the day's withdrawal.

The spoke person for First Bank Plc, Mrs. Sholape Badejo, and Mr. Christian Ebozue of Access bank mentioned that as soon as they get delivery of cash, transactions will resume instantly.

The PCC team further appealed to the citizens at various banks visited to accept the maximum withdrawal of #20,000 daily on ATM, #100,000 withdrawal for individuals from the banking hall, and #500,000.00 daily for corporate bodies for the time being.

They were also encouraged to make use of mobile banking platforms as a means of doing their transactions, upholding the CBN cashless policy.

A glance at the Investigation Department, Public Complaints Commission, Lagos State Office.

To us at the Public Complaints Commission (PCC), receiving, investigating and resolving Complaints on administrative injustice is our core mandate which we have dedicated ourselves to since the inception of the Commission. This is the major reason when new staff joins or assumes office, the ball is always set rolling by taking the bull by its horns in the cause of ensuring the proliferation of social justice.

Assistant Director of Investigation, Mrs. Uche S. Nnadozie, assumed the role of the Head of Investigation Department, PCC Lagos State Office. Similarly, Mr. Bolarinwa Ajose .R, an Assistant Director of Investigation is put in charge of complaints from the private sector after Mr. Akinwunmi . O, retired meritoriously, while another Assistant Director of Investigation, Mrs. Evelyn Uzoh is in charge of complaints from the Public sector.

Since then, all the heads and industrious Investigation Officers have been working to ensure justice is served in all cases.

A laudable initiative launched by the department is the Weekly Team Building Initiative for its new staff. The initiative is targeted at equipping the new staff with the required knowledge and skills to excel as fighters of social justice while working with others. The exercise takes place weekly.

As a means to further equip its staff with resources, the Public Complaints Commission (PCC), Lagos State Office organised a Capacity Building Exercise for its Heads of Departments and Supervisors.

The session was targeted at improving the Commission through the effective and proper usage of investigation methodology and communication skills.

Similarly, the department has made efforts to standardise its activities by appointing scheduled officers in charge of complaints of government parastatals such as Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Lagos State Public Works Corporation, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and others.

The department also publishes a weekly newsreel that summarises its activities for the week.
