Topic: ZEALOUS FOR GOD?

"And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from among the congregation, and took a javelin in his hand; And he went after the man of Israel into the tent, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her belly. So the plague was stayed from the children of Israel."

Calvary greetings unto you this beautiful morning in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

I watched a Christian movie sometimes ago, titled, "BUSY FOR NOTHING." This title and the entire movie vividly pictured what many Christians do today in the house of God, BUSY FOR NOTHING! The Christian brand today is such that we want to please and entertain man, and we care less whether God is involved, and or pleased or not.

Our Bible reading today talks about JUST ONE MAN, PHINEHAS, who practically displayed his ZEAL FOR GOD. His display was so pleasing to God that He stopped a plague that had consumed twenty-four thousand people. Did you notice that the whole chapter is all about him?

As we close this morning, I say this to the shame of many Christians who can't lift a finger for God. So many Christians today would rather defend their denominations, or more importantly, their G. O.s and or founders, rather than God and the things of God. And when they see anyone standing for God by condemning certain unBiblical practices in the church, they resort to abuses and name-calling. Many people use their God-given gifts today to glorify, entertain and please men, not God, and because their audience clapped at the end of their ministration, they erroneously believe they have worked for God. Let me tell you this once and for all now that whoever you are and regardless of whatever you think you're doing in the house of God, if you're aren't standing for God, to defend His name and the things pertaining to Him, then, there's a problem. Many people who we see 'working for God' today are even aiding and upholding unGodliness. Jesus Christ overturned the table of those buying and selling in the synagogue. David put his whole life on the line to stop Goliath from further profanity of the Holy Name of God. The three Hebrew guys of Azariah, Hananiah and Mishael did same to show that only God deserves our worship. Apostle Paul's life was threatened many times in his propagation and defense of the Gospel of Christ. I ask you, what have you done to uphold the Gospel? How many times have you risked a privilege, not even your life now, for the sake of the Gospel? How many times have you accepted insults for Christ's sake? Did you notice what the Psalmist say in our memory verse? What reproach have you ever taken for Christ? Beloved brethren, let me not deceive you, Christianity isn't bread and butter, except you aren't concerned about making heaven. I pray God will help us all in Jesus name. Amen.

Topic: MEET FOR THE MASTER'S USE?

Bible Reading: 2 Timothy 2: 20 - 21 - "But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour. If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work."

Memory Verse: "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven." -
Matthew 7: 21

Greetings from Calvary unto you this beautiful morning, dear brethren, in the precious name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

The church today is like a cushioned chair into which many things, good and unsavoury, have been packed and all covered up with cushioning foams. Many times, therefore, one may be unable to discern who is who in the church, especially, when services and the use of individual gifts are involved. One common error is to believe that every gift on display is acceptable unto God, especially if and because the whole church or congregation is filled with ecstasy in the course of using this gifts.

The lacking understanding really is that although gifts are given by the Spirit, it is not every use and or display of all gifts that are acceptable unto the Master. Somebody may sing so beautifully and everybody enjoyed the rendition, but it doesn't simply mean that God, or His Christ accepted or regard it. This is because according to our Bible reading today, in the church (a big house), there are many vessels in use and display, which we often believe are of God and acceptable to Him.

As we round off this morning, I want us to know that each of us are the vessels referred to above, but our acceptability for the Master's use is dependent on whether we have been purged of every filthiness or not. That you or anyone is displaying and using their gifts, even in the church doesn't really mean that they are meet for the Master's use. You may be using your gift yourself, without God being involved. That's the reason TRUE signs and wonders are very scarce in the church today because our gift carriers are not meet for the Master's use because they're not purged, just yet. The ONLY solution, brethren, is a return to Calvary for forgiveness and divine purging. Until then, that gift of yours, and indeed, you, yourself, are not meet for the Master's use.

Topic: TEACH AND BELIEVE ONLY THE TRUTH

Bible Reading: Titus 1: 10 - 11 "For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, . . Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake."

Memory Verse: "If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable." - 1 Corinthians 15: 19

Calvary greetings from the Throne of grace this beautiful morning in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

I have consistently said it in umpteenth time that there are preachers, many, and of different nomenclature, title-wise, who will not make heaven, just because of their congregations. And the reverse is also true. One thing every preacher MUST come to terms with is that we are just employees in God's Vineyard, and conventionally, employees do whatever their employers demand of them. And even when they have to innovate, such innovation must not be counter-productive to the business of the employer. Is this true of many of our preachers today?

God says in our Bible reading today that there are preachers whose mouths must be stopped. Aren't you one of them? If you aren't preaching what Jesus Christ preached, repentance from sins and the coming Kingdom of God, you are one of them. If you have left that beautiful path to be talking about the things of the world, you're one of those whose mouths ought to be stopped. If your messages are filled with lust and covetousness, you are one of them. If you preach miracles for forty-five to fifty-five minutes and only do five to ten minutes altar call, your mouth ought to be stopped. If what you do is inspire the people to the abominable works of darkness with the aim of instilling fear in them so that they keep coming to your church, you're one of them. And, if your image in the heart of your congregation has become larger than that of God and His Christ Jesus such that they have shifted the faith they ought to have in God to you, your mouth ought to be stopped.

As we close this morning, the same is also true of you followers and believers of men rather than God. Many of you believe more in your church doctrines and what your pastor, G.O. or whatever says than what God says in the Bible. You're following the "commandments of men" to the detriment of God's infallible Word just because you want the approval of men. All of you belong to the same group: your mouths ought to be stopped! Rounding off this morning, our memory verse comes handy. Whether you like it or not, as a preacher of rubbish or follower and believer of such rubbishes, Jesus Christ is coming back and what you did and or followed or believed will be the standard you're going to be measured against. One thing you need to know is that NO BALAK OR THEIR FOLLOWERS WILL HAVE A PART IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD. He who has ears should listen to what the Spirit is telling the church. Preaching and listening/believing and doing the TRUTH is the only way to FINISH STRONG.

Tooic: AVOID THE SACRIFICE OF FOOLS - 2

As said in our last issue, many things are being used today by the impostors on many pulpits to deceive many unsuspecting congregants all over the place. And aside tithe, offering, first fruits and other sacrifices, another wasted sacrifice often done in churches today is singing and dancing.

The victim Scripture for this sacrifice is our Bible reading today. It is always an easy reference that King David danced before the Lord with all his might and power and the evidence that God was delighted with his dance was the punishment Michal got for mocking the dancing King.

Hmm.... As we close this morning, let me say that one of the things I found amusing in how these deceivers quote Scriptures is that they don't try to explain Scriptures, or they quote them in half. In the Bible passage, it is said, "... and David was girded with a linen ephod." Did your whoever leading you to dance the Davidic dance ever explain to you what an EPHOD is and its significance? Because of time and space, an ephod is, simply put, a symbol of HOLINESS because it must be worn by the High Priest when going before God to offer sacrifice for the people in the holy of holies. So, David wearing the ephod signifies that he had purified himself and made himself acceptable to God (Rom. 12: 1 - 2). For your information, David's dance became acceptable to God because David himself was. If your sacrificial dance before God is filthy because you're filthy, it amounts to mocking God and therefore cannot be acceptable to God. It's therefore a SACRIFICE OF FOOLS. That's what our memory verse this morning is saying. May God grant us understanding in Jesus name Amen.

Topic: AVOID THE SACRIFICE OF FOOLS

And Saul said, They have brought them from the Amalekites: for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the oxen, to sacrifice unto the LORD thy God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed.." - 1 Samuel 15: 14 - 15

Memory Verse: "The sacrifice of the wicked is abomination: how much more, when he bringeth it with a wicked mind?" - Proverbs 21: 27

Over the years, there had been calculated attempts to divert the attentions of professing Christians from God's request for HOLINESS in Romans 12: 1 and they are being repeatedly conditioned today to disbelieve the Word of God in Acts 17: 25 that God doesn't need anything from us because He gives us all things, including our lives and breath. Many are being deceived to believe and practice what the Bible calls the SACRIFICE OF FOOLS in Ecclesiastes 5: 1.

In our Bible reading this morning, we see clearly how King Saul and his men planned to offer what could have been seen by many people as a great sacrifice to God. And if we read further down (1 Sam. 15: 22 - 23) we also see how God ridiculed their foolish proposal for what He desired instead.

As we close this morning, our memory verse comes to mind that the sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination unto God. Has it ever occurred to you that contrary to what you Pastor, G. O., Shepherd or whatever is telling you, God may not have been accepting your tithes, offerings, first fruits, and other sacrifices you have been offering in your church? Oh, you think you have been giving to God? If you are doing all these and more without obedience to the Word of God, they are all abominations unto God. All you have done is adding to your pastor's wealth and riches. You are therefore, not different from King Saul. You may remember that that singular act was one of the reasons King Saul NEVER FINISHED STRONG with God. Let me tell you this morning that IF YOU MUST FINISH STRONG in and with God, you MUST AVOID THE SACRIFICE OF FOOLS, but lean more towards OBEDIENCE and HOLINESS. I pray we receive from above this morning, the grace to be obedient and offer ourselves living sacrifices unto God in Jesus name Amen.

Topic: PANTETH THOU AFTER WHAT?

Bible Reading: Psalms 42: 1 - 2 "As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?"

Memory Verse: "One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple." - Psalms 27: 4

Experience has shown that in life, desires determine and control behaviours. Desires in turn, have a driver, motivation. Motivation however, is two-fold: intrinsic (internal drive) and extrinsic (external drive). Of the duo, it has been proven that motives carried out based on intrinsic motivation are better enjoyed, better done and last longer.

The Psalmist in both of our memory verse and Bible reading this morning expressed a desire that was internally driven and which had not external influences. Wonder then why God says David was a man after His Own heart?

As we close this morning, let me say that Christianity has taken on a new garb sewn by the impostors preaching the gospel for profit. This accounts for 1 Cor. 15: 19 coming to past in the lives of many self-professing believers and why most of the abominable acts today have the name of one Christian or the other mentioned in them. David, ever before writing the verse we are using this morning demonstrated what his desire was. First, he went on the su***de mission of facing Goliath and then, all through his life, he always submitted to the Will of God, whether pleasant or not. Do you still wonder why God made an everlasting covenant with him, still? David's heart was always with God and he did all he did because he loved God. He wasn't like most Christians today, "serving God" for what they could gain, material possessions. Let's round off this morning by saying that people whose motives differ from David's don't and can't ever FINISH STRONG in and with God. A good example was King Saul. People of Saul's tribe won't and can't ever FINISH STRONG in and with God because they will always disobey God to acquire material things. But people of David's tribe are sure of FINISHING STRONG because they have no other desire in God than God Himself. I pray that the grace to always pant after God be released upon us all today in Jesus name Amen.

FINISHING STRONG - Friday, 5th January, 2024

Topic: FORGET YOURSELF

Memory Verse: "Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts." Zechariah 4: 6

Calvary greetings, wishing you a prosperous 2024, in Jesus name Amen.

Sometimes, we stop God's hands from moving on our behalf because all we see is ourselves. This is an attitude that made God to reduce the victorious Gideon army from 32,000 men to 300 in the book of Judges 7: 1-6 because God said Israel will turn round later to say, "Mine own hand hath saved me." Judges 7: 2. But our memory verse this morning says power and might are useless, but
God, through His Spirit, is what matters.

As we close this morning, I implore us to take on the attitude of the twenty-four elders in heaven. Casting their crowns before God literally means they forgot themselves; who they are, what they have, including knowledge and wisdom, aptitude and what have you. They surrendered everything to Him Who can do all things so that He would do more for them. Brethren, this is the attitude of everyone who desires to FINISH STRONG with and in God for He counts such as an act of humility which He respects so much and by which He elevates men. I pray that that grace be given us all this morning in Jesus name Amen.

FINISHING STRONG - Wednesday, 20th December, 2023

Topic: CHASTISED SORE YET? - 2

Bible Reading: Hebrews 12: 9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?"

Memory Verse: "But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons." - Hebrews 12: 8

It won't be surprising to know that many so-called Christians would have departed this world before they discovered that all the "bread and butter" messages of their pastors and GOs were all lies from the pit of hell. God is a Disciplinarian and punishes every disregard to His commands. I have told people severally that if anyone is committing sins without drawing the attention of heaven for necessary chastisement, such a fellow is on the highway to perdition.

While many Christians today would rather quit a congregation or a denomination altogether to avoid being chastised for their misbehaviours, some others will even elect to become nominal Christians for the same reason. Having understood this, pastors are not preaching the God Who punishes sins, rather, they preach the gracious God Who cares not about their sins. It's all bread and butter!

As we close this morning, it is worth pointing out that divine chastisement is a very good sign that God loves the chastised and that the person is still very much in God's plans and agenda. Right from when I became born again, some twenty-two years ago, I always personally beg God to punish me for my sins whenever I erred. I will kneel down for hours, pleading in prayer that He would never overlook my misbehaviours, but He should rather punish me for them. I believe He heard and answered because it's the only reason I'm still being found in Him today. To Him Only be all glory forever. Brethren, let me tell you, if you're serious of making it Home, never despise divine chastisement or be happy when you sinned, but Father ignores you. Don't believe your lying pastor who says grace covers sin. No! Grace doesn't cover sins, but enables us to live above and without sin. You don't understand? I trust the Holy Spirit to teach us that very soon. Finally, let's take this home this morning: divine chastisement is a sign of God's love for us, and we must never despise it. No one who doesn't like to be chastised by God will ever FINISH STRONG. I pray that the grace to endure divine chastisement be released upon us all this morning in Jesus Christ's mighty name Amen.

FINISHING STRONG - Monday, 18th December, 2023

Topic: CHASTENED SORE YET?

Bible Reading: 2 Corinthians 11: 24 - 27 "Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one.
Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep; In journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren; In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness."

Memory Verse: "The LORD hath chastened me sore: ...." - Psalm 118: 18

Just as it's going to be difficult for a camel to pass through the needle's eye, it will equally be difficult for bread and butter Christians to FINISH STRONG and make heaven. "Experience", they say, "is the best teacher." One major thing that stood David apart from Saul was the fact that David had had many personal experiences with God, all alone. Apostle Paul in our Bible reading this morning recounted the ordeals he went through in his journey with God. Marvel thee still why he excelled more than the rest of the pack? Try to read it over again!

As we close this morning, let me reiterate what I normally tell people that until you have had robust personal experiences that put your faith through fire and water (Isaiah 43: 1 - 2), with God all alone, to the extent that you asked God, thus, "God, why me?", and come out of it unscathed, you're simply not ready for the journey Home, yet. This morning, let's be clear with the fact that the sweet journey back Home has a transport fare to be paid. The fare is nothing, but DIVINE CHASTISEMENT. David didn't become the apple of God's eyes on a platter of gold; he paid his due. Hence, our memory verse this morning. He was chastised sore (badly). Apostle Paul, in 2 Timothy 4: 7 - 8 declared openly that heaven was already sure for him. Marvel? Go over our Bible reading this morning again. He paid his dues! Have you paid your own dues, or you're still listening to and believing those cajoling messages assuring you that the blood of Jesus has paid your fare Home? No, the blood of Jesus Christ only threw the gate open, but you must pay your own fare by way of chastisement. Let me tell you, behind every glory, there's a story, most times, unpalatable! We shall expand on this topic in the next issue by His special grace. I pray that the good Lord grant us understanding in Jesus name Amen.

FINISHING STRONG - Friday 15th, December, 2023

Topic: THE WRONG LEAGUE

Bible reading: 2 Chronicles 16: 2 - 3 "Then Asa brought out silver and gold out of the treasures of the house of the LORD and of the king's house, and sent to Benhadad king of Syria, that dwelt at Damascus, saying, There is a league between me and thee, as there was between my father and thy father: behold, I have sent thee silver and gold; go, break thy league with Baasha king of Israel, that he may depart from me."

Memory Verse: " Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?" - 2 Corinthians 6: 14

The church today is what it is because of her wrong alliances of the past. The reason for the present incurable and unstoppable proliferation of the body of Christ is because the church, after the real and the first Apostles, entered into leagues with the wrong elements of the world.

From experience and the happenings around, it is very obvious that a good percentage of Christians today operate in errors because of their ignorance in the Word of God. A few days back, I had a discussion with one of my sons in Him during which I complained about some friends that I saw him with. But his response was that how would we win those unbelievers if we don't interact with them. As rightly pointed out by our memory verse this morning, "interaction" is different from being "unequally yoked". If I boarded an unbeliever's bus or went to buy groceries from an unbeliever, I have had interactions with those, but not "unequally yoked". I will be said to have been "unequally yoked" with them by becoming their bosom friend, doing what they do, saying what they say, going where they go, wear what they wear, and so on.

As we close this morning, I know that sometimes, we face daunting challenges that try our faith, but we must understand that our divine approvals come when we successfully navigate those challenges without wavering. We need not become like Asa, king of Judah in our Bible reading this morning who went to form a league with an unbeliever so that he may overcome his challenges. Psalm 46: 1 says, "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." If this be true for you, why forming unholy alliances? Finally this morning brethren, I want you to know that people who form such unholy alliances will NEVER FINISH STRONG (except if they repent) because our God is a jealous God. That is why Asa died such a miserable fellow, with a disease on his feet which festered and became great before he finally died of it (2 Chronicles 16: 12 - 14). Rather, we must be willing to call on our Father for help at all times, knowing that He is our "VERY PRESENT HELP IN TROUBLE". I pray that the grace to do this be released upon you this morning in Jesus Christ's mighty name Amen.

FINISHING STRONG - Wednesday, 13th December, 2023

Topic: GO AND WIN SOULS

Bible Reading: Matthew 28:19 - 20 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, . . . Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: . . . .."

Memory Verse: "The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise." - Proverbs 11: 30

Calvary greetings to you from the Throne of grace this beautiful morning in Jesus Christ's mighty name Amen.

The law of multiplicity is a natural one that says that the more one adds to something, the more it increases that, to which something is added. And the reverse is also always true. Our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, knows this. That's why He commanded us thus in our Bible reading this morning to go and teach that we may make disciples for Him.

Christians today operate in defiance of the above command. I always wonder the kind of children some Christians are who only delight in enjoying the proceeds from their Father's business, but aren't keen in lifting just a finger to improve and increase the business.

As we close this morning brethren, let me say that the proliferation of the body of Christ by pastorpreneurs who came with the only understanding of Christ Jesus dying on the Cross to make them rich and wealthy is doing a lot of harm to our Father's Kingdom. Beloveth, I know that many of us like to worship with and in large congregations, but I put it to you that most of these large congregations are only increasing their denomination's population alongside that of hell, whilst decreasing the population of the Kingdom of God, which they were sent to go and increase. I ask you, brethren: when last did you win a soul into the Kingdom? Or are you one of those Christians whose only concern is what they could get from God and not what they could do to improve the body of Christ Jesus? When you go out on what you call evangelism in your church, do you go out to win souls unto Christ Jesus and His Kingdom, or you only go out to advertise you denomination? Our memory verse this morning says that you're only wise if you're given to winning souls. Do you know the reverse is equally true? You're only wise for winning souls because by so doing, you're obeying your Father's command and ensuring that you FINISH STRONG. One secret that Christians don't seem to know about evangelism is that it helps to keep one away from sins. And the farther you are from sin, the closer you become to FINISHING STRONG in and with God with the benefit of making it Home on the Last Day. I pray that the great grace to start winning souls be released upon you this morning in Jesus Christ's mighty name. Amen.

Topic: MIND YOUR DESIRES

Bible Reading: 1 Kings 21: 2 "And Ahab spake unto Naboth, saying, Give me thy vineyard, that I may have it for a garden of herbs, because it is near unto my house: and I will give thee for it a better vineyard than it; or, if it seem good to thee, I will give thee the worth of it in money"

Admonition
Calvary greetings to you from the Throne of grace this beautiful morning in Jesus Christ's mighty name Amen.

We are at an age badly driven by myriads of ambitions and desires, often oiled and powered by the oratorical prowess of men and women, both on and off the pulpit. We are often inundated with such covetous messages and motivational talks that emphasizes the fact that we were indeed created for a purpose that MUST be fulfilled.

King Ahab in our Bible reading this morning had a non-sinful ambition to have a garden of herbs very near his house, but he incurred God's wrath because of the way he went about his ambition. Just as Ahab was strongly aided by his wife to do evil, so are many of us today being aided today by many unGodly men on the pulpit and elsewhere. Many of us have become so badly driven by ambitions and desires that we often forget that we're named amongst the people of God such that very many so-called Christians won't stop at anything including backbiting and denigrating, even murder, other persons to achieve their obscene goals.

As we close this morning, let me say that it's not by any means wrong to have ambitions and desires, but it is how we go about them and invariably achieve them that would determine whether we would FINISH STRONG or not. Many Ahabs amidst us have their Jezebels right with them always who urge them to do evil. That is why our memory verse this morning is admonishing us not to eat the food of evil-minded people nor desire their favours. Most times, it's our desire to become whom we dreamt to be that pushes us into grave, but avoidable errors. The truth, brethren, is that ambitions, desires and the likes that are not brought under the control of the Holy Spirit will always drive their owners towards avoidable errors, just like Ahab's. As children of God therefore, we must make it an attitude to always test our ambitions and desires n the light of God's Word and we MUST also know when to apply the breaks. For example, I ventured into politics in 2014, but when I saw what it entails, I quickly engaged my reverse gear, instead of remaining there and be doing abominable things with them and "enjoying" their sinful dainties. But I must say that anyone who would be mindful of their ambitions and desires would be one who is mindful of the things above. Such is a person who would scale this hurdle and FINISH STRONGLY in and with God. I pray that the grace to do this the Holy Spirit of God will release it upon us this morning in Jesus Christ's mighty name Amen.
