Hello, my name is Ewemade Bode Banjoko and today I get to turn forty!

I have had the exceptional honor of being the founder of Shakara Couture and Ewemade Van Joko. I started my journey with fashion, 21 beautiful years ago, With my first client, who I would like to honor today, my very deeply beloved Motunrayo Ogbara. My beautiful love who saw more in me than I saw in myself.

I studied law at the University of Lagos and upon graduating, swapped my law school year for a year of training at my dream institutions, The London College of Fashion and Central Saint Martin. Where I was trained in fashion business, millinery, personal styling, professional styling, Draping for professional fit and finish, fashion illustration, fashion merchandising and production, fashion show production (a ti be be lo). 🤣

I have had the most amazing journey…from my days of sitting in my student accommodation, being forced by to come out of my shell and allow magazines to feature my work…from beading my designs by hand, after my very first tailor, Prince, had sewn them in Tejuosho Market. (Prince was introduced to me by the kindest, most generous Oluremi who taught me that the sky is big enough for all of us). To dressing Queens (actual Queens with real life crowns🤣) to heads of industry to super stars to First Ladies to precious, nervous young brides to every single one of my clients to dressing my very own child.

I guess I say all this to say I am here because of you. Every. Single. One. Of you. I am so grateful for my fairytale life. This beautiful fairytale that I have lived with you, that will continue to get better and happier.

I get to be forty. I get to grow older. I get to be alive and loved. I get to be happy. I wish the exact same for every single one of you. And I thank you from the very bottom of my heart, for sticking with me. I thank you.
