Over 30 Illegal Oil Refining Sites Bombed In Rivers

Air strikes from the air component of Operation Delta Safe have destroyed no fewer than 30 active illegal oil refining sites in Cawthorne Channel and Bille, in Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Also, storage tanks, reservoirs, and Cotonou boats suspected to be siphoning crude oil from a flow station were destroyed in the operations.

This was disclosed by the Air Force Spokesperson, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet in a statement on Sunday.

The statement read, ” Air strikes conducted on Cawthorne Channel and Bille, both located in Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State, proved successful as 7 illegal refining sites were identified and destroyed. In Cawthorne Channel, 4 active illegal refining sites with dug-out reservoirs and surface storage tanks suspected to be containing illegal refined products were sighted on 15 September 2023. Subsequently, the sites were destroyed.

“Similar air strikes were also conducted at Bille on 16 September 2023 and in the early hours of 17 September 2023. There, 3 illegal oil refining sites with storage tanks and reservoirs were destroyed. In one of the sites, a Cotonou boat suspected to be siphoning crude oil from a flow station was engaged in several passes and destroyed.

“In the last 2 months, Cawthorne Channel and Bille have accounted for the majority of oil theft and illegal oil refining activities in Rivers State. Within this period, over 30 illegal oil refining sites in these 2 locations have been destroyed by the Land, Maritime, and Air Components of Operation Delta Safe. “

Mary Nkeki who is one of the abducted Chibok school girls recently rescued by troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) in the Northeast, has asked to be reunited with Mallam Adamu a repentant Boko Haram member who defiled her and forcefully got married to her while in captivity.

Recall that the Theatre Commander OPHK, Maj-Gen. Gold Chibuisi, on Monday, August 21, handed Nneki over to the Borno state government after she was rescued on August 14, 2023, by troops of the 81 Nigerian Army Battalion, Dikwa, a border community with Cameroon.

It was further disclosed that the name of Mary is on number 55 of the list of abducted Chibok schoolgirls in April 2014.

Speaking to newsmen, Maru said she had two babies with her husband, but they died of severe acute malnutrition (SAM) in the Gulumba Forest of the Bama local council. She stated that despite her rescue, she wants to be reunited with her husband, Adamu, who had already surrendered last week in Dikwa.

‘’As for marriage, my husband is still alive, and I am still in love with him. I don’t know whether he is still in Dikwa or they brought him to Maiduguri, but I will love to be reunited with him if it will be possible”, she said.

Spokesperson of the State Police Command, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, said the incident happened on Thursday, August 17, 2023.

“On 17/08/2023 at about 1100hrs, police received a report that a 35-year-old man Samaila Ilu of Dungun Tantama village, Hausa local government, left his house on 16/08/2023 to an unknown destination,” the PPRO stated.

Shiisu stated that Samaila's body was discovered hanging from a tree with a rope.

A Team of Police Officers took the co**se and transported it to the hospital for autopsy.

The Body was later released to his relatives for burial, the spokesperson added.
