We humbly request you to come to the ceremony but not the reception as we are maxed out for the reception, please. The sitting capacity is 100 only and we do not want to let people go through discomfort on our behalf.

My reply:
Dear AB,
You don't know how relieved I am that you contacted me about skipping the reception 48 hours to the event. Coincidentally, since I RSVP'd your original invitation, I have received another invitation to fully attend another wedding by my friend's son on the same day and time. I have had such a difficult time trying to come up with a way to honour both invitations. Now I am pleased that I can honor your request to skip your event and have the opportunity to attend the other one seeing as Abuja is very far from Lagos and would cost not less than 300k for a return ticket, hotel bills and all in order for me to attend the ceremony for the exchange of vows, turn right around to go back to my hotel and then fly home.
I think you will agree with me that in these times, fully attending an event in Abuja would benefit everyone. And do not worry, I will see you people later. The country is very difficult for everyone now. I understand.
