JUNE 12: FUBARA ASSURES SECURITY WELLBEING OF RIVERS PEOPLE

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara has felicitated with the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Nigerians on the marking of 2023 Democracy Day Celebration, with an assurance of securing the lives and property of citizens across the State.

Governor Fubara, in a statement to commemorate the 2023 June 12 Democracy Day said " The significant improvement recorded in our democratic journey has helped to reassure the people of government becoming effectively accountable, functional and vibrant "

The Governor declared that, "I join our president and my fellow leaders in expressing my solidarity and hearty good wishes to all Nigerians on this auspicious occasion of celebrating the nation's democracy day and our progress as a developing nation since the fourth republic."

He pointed out that the subject of the 2023 Democracy Day Celebration, " Hope Reassured" is a reassurance of the prospect of a united , secure and prosperous Nigeria, and urged Nigerians to be vigilant in the defense and protection of "national ideals that constitute the fundamental pillars of nationhood and inspire the basis of our constitutional democracy."

The Rivers State Governor who reiterated the commitment of his administration to the security well being of Rivers people, enjoined the citizens on the shared responsibility of securing the environment by playing their part and cooperating with the security agencies to keep Rivers State peaceful, secure and attractive to investors and visitors.

PRESS BRIEFING BY COMMISSIONER OF POLICE, RIVERS STATE COMMAND, CP NWONYI POLYCARP EMEKA psc, LLB, PhD ON TUESDAY, JUNE 13, 2023, AT THE POLICE HEADQUARTERS, RIVERS STATE

Gentlemen of the Press, in line with our constitutional mandate of protecting the lives and property of citizens, I have called you this morning to brief you on some of the achievements of the command within the period I took over as the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command.
The Command has achieved yet another victory in the struggle against crime and criminality, which is outlined here:
1. DEATH OF KIDNAPPERS, CULTIST/RECOVERY OF FI****MS AND AMMUNITIION.

2. RESCUE OF ABDUCTED VICTIMS

3. ARREST OF FOUR SUSPECTED ARMED ROBBERS

1. On 13th June 2023 at about 02:30 hours, Operatives of the Command, based on intelligence gathered, spotted a notorious kidnapping gang headed by one Wordi Amadi ‘M,’ aged 25yrs from Elibrada Community in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State, and his gang somewhere at Ogoloma, in Okirika LGA of Rivers State, on sighting the Operatives, the hoodlums opened gunfire, but were overpowered due to the superior fire power of the Police Operatives.
Wordi Amadi and his gang have been on the wanted list of the Police. He has killed policemen, innocent citizens, and has been terrorizing the East-West Road, kidnapping and robbering for ransom and has made the Elibrada Indigenes desert their homes.
The gang leader, named Wordi Amadi ‘M," and three of the gang members, including a female, were fatally wounded.
They were quickly rushed to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital for treatment. On arrival, the doctor on duty confirmed that they were dead.
Exhibits recovered from them are;
One AK47 rifle with 25 rounds of 7.62 x 32mm;
One assault rifle with 20 rounds of live ammunition;
One pump action with four live cartridges; and assorted charms. Investigation is ongoing.
2. On Friday, 09/06/2023 at about 2340hrs while on routine patrol, Operatives of the Command received information that hoodlums were operating along the East-West Road between Eveku and Oduoha in Emohua Local Government Area of the State.
On arrival at the scene, operatives combed the forest and, five victims were rescued. They were all traveling from Osun State to Rivers State.
Upon frantic efforts both by the Police and Local Vigilantee, after a gun battle with the hoodlums at their camp, four more abducted victims that were still in captivity were rescued unhurt, on 10/06/2023, at about 1040hrs.
The rescued victims have been debriefed and allowed to reunite with their families.
3. Operatives of the command, on Wednesday, 7/6/2023, at about 1509hrs., arrested one Nnaa David Tombari 'M' and one Ephraim Zinas 'M' with one long single barrel locally made gun while on patrol.
In another development, on Saturday, 10/06/2023 at about 1030hrs, along RailWay Club Port Harcourt, a team of patrol team from the Intelligence and Surveillance Unit intercepted a Toyota Camry Custom Colour, 2019 model with Reg No. CRSJ 36 driven by one Kingsley Samuel "M" and Arise Sampson Ayodele ‘m’ as occupants.
Seven plate numbers of different vehicles, namely: BKW 616 PZ Delta, EFR 268 TT Delta, KLK 553 KX Delta, EFR 677 TK Delta, KUJ 260 KC Abuja, and B 826 CQ Abuja, six number guards, charms, etc., were recovered and brought to the police base.
4. Investigation is ongoing, and efforts intensified to arrest the other suspects still at large.
5. All suspects will be arraigned in court upon completion of the investigation.
