HE CARES (Part 1)

Text:
"Casting all your care (anxiety and burdens) upon Him, for He careth for you" 1st Peter 5verse7 KJV

Introduction:
One common denominator amongst men and women today is apprehension (fear and uncertainty) of the future.
This is so palpable that the aroma can be smelt all around us. It can be seen in the air and can be held with the physical hands.
The fear of the future is the wagon and driver that is driving humanity today so recklessly that it has, and is crushing and crashing unwary people to their untimely deaths, day-in, day-out.
Look around you, and especially the social media, you will be inundated with stories and stories of calamities that struck people in the rat race to secure what they call, not only their future, but that of generations yet unborn.
For a life that goes on, decades after they have gone, they keep struggling and labouring and belabouring today without pondering once in a while that life goes on eternally after their demise.
It is good for us to struggle and work hard, not only for our today, but for our tomorrow and next tomorrow, but what our text today is saying is that we must not forget God in our struggles and that we should "cast all our care (anxiety and burdens) upon Him because He cares for us more, and better than we can care for ourselves"
This is the only way we can live longer, peacefully, happily and in good, better health and state of mind.

Exposition:
There are many people today who are gradually dieing under excruciating pains caused by the heavy burden of family, spouse, children, work, money, security, health, age and aging, and even death, terrorism or political and economic policies that may not be favourable to them.
But God is asking such people today to "cast their burdens upon Him". Why? Because He is assuring us that He cares, that He is the Burden-bearer.
Just take a look at all the challenges listed above: if a man has to worry about all these at the same time, definitely, sudden untimely death is not far from such a man.
Take for instance, death, which ought to be conceded into the Hands of God, if man should be pondering about when, where and how it will eventually come, that puzzle, definitely cannot add more years to any man, it only shorten man's life.
This is why Apostle Paul told the Corinthian Christians in 1st Corinthians 15verse55 KJV "O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?"
This can only be the shout of the man or woman who has cast her burdens (cares and worries) of death into God's able Hands. Only such a man or woman can challenge death in such manner.
The Believer's stance on death should be ditto for all other cares or burdens or anxieties of life.
In Luke 12verse7 KJV , Evangelist Luke assures us that "Even the very hairs of our head are all numbered..."
Can you imagine somebody asking you to count the number of hair strands on your head and come forward with the exact number so that you can win a Nobel prize?
How many people can win first prize in such a contest?
Yet, God is assuring you and I that He knows how many those strands of hair are, and He would not allow any of them to fall without His permission. Yes! He cares for you.
Many of us worry ourselves stiff on things we ought to commit into the Hands of God.
And that is why Jesus Christ tells us in Matthew 6verses27-29 NIV: "Which of you, by worrying, can add an hour to his life?
Or which of you by worrying can add an inch to his height?"
Jesus continues: "And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lillies of the field grow, they neither labour nor spin.
Yet, Solomon in all his splendour was not as beautifully arrayed as any of these flowers"
Jesus Christ continues again in verse 30, He says further that "if that is how God clothes the grass of the field which is here today and withers tomorrow and cut down and thrown into the furnace, will He not clothe you, O ye of little faith?"

Also in verse 26, Jesus tells the ever apprehensive Jews: "Look at the birds of the air, they neither sow nor reap nor store away in barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them daily, how much more you and I who are more useful than birds of the air?"
If you are reading this message and you are yet to surrender your precious life totally to Jesus Christ, I want to close this exhortation with this invitation from Jesus Christ in Matthew 11verses28-30 NIV.
He says:"Come unto me all you that are weary and burdened and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light".

GOD DETERMINES THE STEPS OF THE PIOUS
Sunday 10th July, 2022

Text:
"The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide"
Psalm 37verse31KJV

Introduction:
I can bet that one thing every one of us wants to have is security.
Security of our life, our property, our children, our spouses, our jobs and careers and so on.
But then, as one thing must always lead to another, one thing must lead to security.
The security we are talking about here is not physical security alone, it is also spiritual security.
Because there is that security which can be provided by man. That is physical.
And there is also security which can only be provided by God. That is spiritual. Though the two complement each other.
This Sunday we are dwelling more on the security only God can provide. And that is spiritual security.
According to our text, we can only get this security if "the law of the Lord is in our heart".
And if the law of God is in our heart, the Psalmist says "none of our steps shall falter or slip"
And if none of our steps falter, we are secured.
God directs the steps of the righteous as He guides them to safe places, away from danger.
Not only that. He guides His children, in their thoughts, plans and actions.
And of course, since the Lord guides the steps of the righteous, the resultant effects are always positive.
No wonder the Psalmist, as a beneficiary of God's spiritual security says in Psalm 18verse36 KJV "Thou hast enlarged my steps under me that my feet does not slip"

Exposition:
We need to be fortified in the spiritual security of God that physical security will just be complimentary.
The Psalmist said he would not be afraid of the arrows of death that fly during the day, neither the pestilence that ravages at nights.
Except the Lord watch over the city, the watchmen waketh but in vain.
Spiritual security is the major while physical security will compliment it.
Let us ask the Lord for Spiritual security by constantly keeping His law in our heart.
The pious shall not be afraid of evil tidings because his heart is fixed, trusting in God.
The Psalmist goes on to assure that the pious would not be afraid when he lies down to have his rest. He shall sleep fine and have sweet dreams.
One other thing that characterizes a life that is led by the Spirit of God is that the man or woman would be established in the Lord and cannot be tossed here and there like a rudderless boat on the high seas.
Psalm 40verse2 NIV says "He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire. He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand".
Yes! The benefit of spiritual security is assurance of standing on firm grounds.
Another dividend of spiritual security is that terror would be far removed from you and tyranny would not be your portion. Isaiah 53verse14.
I don't know why the Spirit has chosen this exhortation on spiritual security this Sunday.
But I know it must be because of somebody.
If you are the one, I pray that your spiritual security this month and beyond is securely guaranteed in Jesus Name. Amen🙏🏽
Let us close with this prayer in 2nd Thessalonians 2verses16-17 NIV "May our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father who loved us and by His grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage our hearts and strengthen us in every good deed and word". Amen.

HE WILL MAKE A WAY
Sunday July 31st, 2022

Text:
"Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up, do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland" Isaiah 43verses 18-19 NIV

Introduction:
One thing that either slows down or hinders the progress or advancement of people is their inability to put the past behind them, look ahead and believe God for a new beginning.
The people of Israel had found it difficult to believe the prophets that had come out from amongst them to prophesy to them that though they were in bo***ge in captivity at Babylon then, but God was about to do a new thing, a thing that would make them marvel and believe that the God that had once been with them and had delivered them out of Egyptian bo***ge, taken them through the perils of the jungle and delivered them safely to the Promised Land was still on the Throne to do even more, for them, now that they've returned into captivity.
They needed to forget their travails and tragedies and remember more, the goodness and mercies of God.
The songwriter says🎼 Count your blessings, name them one by one and it will surprise you what the Lord has done 🎹
Our text says "Forget the former things, do not dwell on the past..."
You see, satan is wicked, he oppresses and intimidates people with their past. He cows and castigates them with their past failures, frustrations and fickle fortunes.
And unfortunately many of us find it very hard to forget the past. Rather, we dwell on the past.
This is the weapon the devil uses against God's people. He calls their attention to past failures, frustrations and fickle fortunes.

Exposition:
But God is saying that He is now set to do a new thing entirely. And it shall manifest because everybody shall see it, though they may not see it now. But they shall see it when it begins to spring forth.
What God promised the Israelites was what he had earlier done for them before. Though sin took it all away.
However, God promised them a repeat of His past miracles, favours and mercies by assuring them that He would change their fortunes again, even for better.
To believe God, we need to bring to our remembrance from time to time, what He had done for us in the past and encourage ourselves that He is, and remains the same, today, yesterday and forever. Hebrews 13verse8.
In the case of the people of Israel, it was the same God that made a way for them through the wilderness, provided food for them in form of manna from heaven, took them through the Red Sea, kept and preserved them all through 40 years amongst beasts and unfavourable weather of the desert.
In Deuteronomy 8verses3-4 "He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna which neither you nor your fathers had known, to teach you that man does not live by bread alone, but on every word that goes out of the mouth of God. Your clothes did not wear out, and your feet did not swell during these forty years".
What God was reiterating to the Israelites in that scripture is that He remains the same, when they were delivered out of Egypt and even now that they have entered into another bo***ge.
Coming back home to our country Nigeria, this is a country that once flowed with milk and honey. But now flowing with blood and misery.
We have never had it so bad. Definitely we are in bo***ge. But God is still God and our deliverance is nigh.
But unfortunately as we inch towards another change of government, the 3 major presidential candidates jostling to lead us are not our messiah.
All of them are an incarnation of the Biblical Babylon. And to worsen the scenario, one of them is an agenda of ethnic vendetta.
How do we escape from this looming catastrophe?
This takes us back to the prayer of the Israelites and the prophecy of their prophets in our text in Isaiah 43verses18-19.
God will definitely do a new thing. And it shall spring forth and we shall perceive it, within June-December 2023 or even earlier.
The clouds are gathering and the signs are ominous.
But God shall make a way in the wilderness. Our country is a wilderness now because we cannot perceive the way. But God shall make a way.
Our country is experiencing a drought now, there is no fuel, no electricity supply, no good roads, education is in shambles, health care delivery in coma, food scarcity, inflation always galloping, yet corruption continues to thrive and fester in high and low places, but God is telling us that He will make rivers flow again in our wilderness.
If you believe it, shout Halleluyah!!! Amen🙏🏽

BE STILL AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD
Sunday 7th August, 2022

Text:
"Hearken unto this, O Job: stand still, and consider the wonderous works of God" Job 37verse14 KJV

Introduction:
The word of God we hear may not profit us until we consider it. We may not benefit from it unless we cease from looking at it as the word of man, rather than the word of God.
Neither can we be blessed by it when we imbibe legalism cm pharisaic holier than thou attitude and human logic to measure it.
We may not gain anything from a message, even when the Holy Spirit is trying to convince us, if we continue to look at the messenger rather than the message, especially when we hold the messenger in low esteem.
But the word of God is more important than the vessel through whom God is dispensing the message because we cannot throw the baby away with the bath water.
Isaiah 1verses18-19 NIV says "Come now, let us reason together", says the Lord, "if you are willing and obedient, you will eat the best of the land"
We are not likely to consider the word of the Lord, in-depth, unless we stand still, and compose ourselves to consider it, after purging ourselves of all prejudices.
Our text says "Hearken unto this, O Job, stand still, and consider the wonderous works of God"
The works of God are wonderous and deserve, as well as need our sober reflection.
When we consider them in our pensive mood and absorb their realities into our system, they will help to reconcile us to all the providences of God for us.

Exposition:
We should be careful not to allow ourselves to be bugged down by over busyness not to be able to sit still and make ourselves available to comprehend His works. This is the way we can really get the best from God.
God is not a noisemaker. He exhibits quietness and serenity in His characteristics.
Likewise, He is a God of order, and orderliness is His oyster. He does not like rowdiness and rancour.
For example, in 1st Kings 19verse12 , we read that God spoke to Elijah not by wind, nor by fire or earthquake, but by a still, small voice.
Why can't we find time, sometimes, to go on retreat in a quiet place, all alone, to hear directly from God, in a still, small voice?
In Numbers 9verse8 KJV "Moses said unto the Israelites on their journey to Canaan, "Stand still, and I would hear what the Lord will command concerning you"
Moses knew that, for him to hear and receive a message from God on behalf the Israelites, he needed to extract himself from their midst, go into seclusion and get himself ready for God to speak to him.
Also in 1st Samuel 9verse27 KJV , we read, concerning Samuel and King Saul: "And as they were going down to the end of the city, Samuel said to Saul 'Let your servant move on, but you stay back still, a little, so I may show you the mind of God'"
Samuel was a great prophet of God. He was called into ministry while he was just a boy that couldn't even distinguish the voice of God.
But now as a veteran prophet and messenger of God who could commune with God, he told Saul to " stand still" and wait for him while he goes to hear from God and report back.
The problem with us is that we are often too busy to be still and hear from God.
In 1st Kings 20verse40, we read the story of a man who was given a responsibility to keep a war prisoner in custody and ensure he doesn't escape otherwise, he would be killed in place of the prisoner.
But the man turned out to be careless to allow the prisoner escape.
When the captain of war came back to take his captive, the man with whom the prisoner was kept said: "while I busy here and there, the prisoner disappeared"
And the captain of war said: "That is your sentence, for you have pronounced it on yourself"
We must not be too busy to set quality time apart to talk to God, listen to Him and hear from Him.
That's why God tells us in Psalm 46verse10 "Be still (set a time apart) to commune with your own heart, on your bed, or anywhere that is quiet and serene so as to hear directly from God".
God had always manifested Himself to us whenever we withdraw ourselves from the hustle and bustle of life and submit ourselves to Him in total surrender in our closets.
Jesus Christ demonstrated this several times when He walked this earth as a man.
Matthew 14verse23 KJV "And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up into a mountain alone to pray, and was there till evening".
And in Mark 6verse31 NIV "Then because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, Jesus said to His disciples 'Come with Me by yourselves to a quiet place and rest (pray and commune with God)'"
Brethren, we need to set quality time apart from our busy schedule to talk to, and hear from God.

BREAKING FAMILY LIMITS
Sunday 14th August, 2022

Text:
"And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called him Jabez saying 'Because I bare him with sorrow'. And Jabez called upon the God of Israel saying 'Oh, that thou wouldest bless me indeed and enlarge my coast and that thine Hand might be with me and that thou wouldest keep me from evil that it may not grieve me'. And God granted him that which he requested" 1st Chronicles 4verses9-10 KJV

Introduction:
All children are born in pains. For that is the sentence God passed on all women while the man would eat from the sweat of his brow.
But in the case of Jabez, he was named so because his mother, though, has had other children before Jabez, but recalled that the pains that accompanied the birth of Jabez was extraordinary, hence she named him Jabez, meaning "a child of sorrow".
Jabez's mother also did name his son so because she wanted to be reminded of that experience so that she would appreciate God's providence daily, as she progressed through life.
To some people, they need constant reminders to keep them on track for God.
Jabez's mother also gave him that name to make Jabez to be serious in his spirit, to constantly appreciate his mother who bore that pain, at his birth.
Jabez stood out amongst his brothers by eminence of character. He was more honourable than them and qualified above them by divine grace and dignified above them by divine providence. Though his brothers were also successful, but Jabez excelled above them all.
Jabez mother was compensated appropriately with even a greater recompense for the sorrow she experienced at the birth of Jabez through the virtuousness of Jabez.

Exposition:
Bible scholars say Jabez was a doctor of the law and that he mentored many disciples.
In addition, Jabez was a prayer warrior. His inclination to devotion made him truly honourable, and by prayer, he obtained those blessings from God which added much to his honour. The way to be truly great is to be truly good, work hard and pray hard.
We were told that Jabez prayed. But we need to dissect the kind of prayer and the way he prayed.
Jabez prayed to the God of Israel, the living and true God, who alone can hear and answer prayer - the covenant-keeping God.
Jabez's prayer was indeed a solemn vow. Hear him again - "if thou will bless me indeed, then, thou shall be my God".
Jabez gave God a blank paper to write whatever He pleases - "Lord, if thou will keep me and bless me, do whatever you want with me, I will be at your command and disposal for ever".
Jabez prayed for four things:
(1) That God would bless him indeed.
"That blessing, thou would bless me indeed with manifold and abundant blessings"
It is obvious that Jabez had an eye on the kind of blessings God bestowed on Abraham in Genesis 22 verses17-18.
God's blessings are eternal and the recipients are blessed indeed.
(2) Jabez prayed for God to enlarge his coast and prosper his endeavours to facilitate an increase of the proceeds of the work of his hands, spiritually, physically, materially and financially.
(3) Jabez asked for God's Hands to be upon him permanently to unleash His power to lead him, protect and strengthen and to work all His works in him and for him as the all-sufficient God.
(4) Jabez also prayed for God to keep him from evil, the evil of trouble, all the evil designs of his enemies that they might not harm him nor grieve him or make him indeed a Jabez, a man of sorrow.
Jabez must have prayed saying "Father, deliver me from evil".
And what was the outcome of Jabez's prayer?
God granted him that which he requested and prospered him remarkably and gave him success in all his undertakings which further made him to be even far more honourable than his brothers.
Our God is still God. The God that answered Jabez is still on the throne and I pray this morning that He will answer our petitions like He did to Jabez, in Jesus' Name. Amen🙏🏽

THE SPIRIT OF GOD
Sunday 24th July, 2022

Text:
"And the earth was without form, and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters" Genesis 1verse2 KJV

Introduction:
For the Believer in God, it is the Spirit of God that moves him, directs, guides and keeps him going.
To him, the Spirit is like petrol in a car, without which the car, no matter how good, can move, talk less of speed.
Without the Spirit of God, the Believer becomes static. He becomes dysfunctional and unarticulated
The Spirit of God is good and necessary for direction, guidance and instruction in the right paths.
With the Spirit of God in the Believer, he makes good and fruitful decisions, effortlessly and without stress. It is the Spirit of God that endorses the Believer with Godly wisdom for exploits, good reports, decisions and visions.
In the New Testament, the Spirit of God is called the Holy Spirit or the Comforter. He is the Spirit of Truth. He is characterized by boldness and wisdom to preach the true and undiluted or adulterated gospel of Jesus Christ.
Curiously enough, this Spirit, as shown in our text this Sunday, has been on earth from day one.
Let's look at the text again. It says "And the earth was without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God (the Holy Spirit) moved upon the face of the waters" Genesis 1verse2 KJV
When Jesus Christ said that He existed before Moses and the Prophets, even before the creation of the world, He was referring to this scripture in Genesis 1verse2.
The Spirit of God is Jesus Christ and Jesus Christ is the Holy Spirit today in the Believer. And Jesus Christ is God. John 10verse30

Exposition:
Our text mentions three points that characterize the man without the Spirit of God.
That man, wether rich or poor, educated or illiterate, white or black is
(1) Without form:
This means that that man without the Spirit of God, lives a life that has no meaning, a life that does not add up. That type of man is that man that lives a life of vain and vanity.
(2) Void:
A man without the Spirit of God lives in a void. His life is empty, intangible and meaningless, his status notwithstanding.
(3) In Darkness:
A man without the Spirit of God lives in darkness. And no-one can see in the dark. A man in the dark, gropes to chart a path for himself. He cannot see the ditch before him until he falls into it.
Ironically, the Spirit of God hovers around for only those who desire to invite Him into their heart. In Revelation 3verse20 NIV, Jesus Christ says "Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he, with me".
The world we live in, is void, without form and in darkness. Only by the Spirit of God can we navigate it successfully.
It is by the Spirit we can foresee, discern and discipher the mysteries of this world.
No wonder Pharaoh sent to fetch Joseph out of prison to come over and interprete his dream which his aids could not do.
Pharaoh said to his servants "Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is?" Genesis 41verse38 KJV.
A man with God's Spirit would always be sought out because he would be a good counselor.
The wisdom that accompanies a man with the Spirit of God naturally attracts people to him.
At the peak of the demonstration of God's wisdom in his life, King Solomon was so much sought after globally by the high and the low, the weak and the powerful, and by kings and queens around the world.
An example was the Queen of Sheba who came all the way from Ethiopia to Jerusalem to listen to King Solomon's wisdom!
And she confirmed it in verse 8 of 1st Kings chapter 10 NIV.
She said "How happy your men must be! How happy your officials who continually stand before you and hear your wisdom!"
Another man with the Spirit of God in him is Daniel.
Listen to him in Daniel 2verse23 NIV "I thank and praise you, O God of my fathers because you have given me wisdom (the Spirit of God) and power.
You have made known to me the dream of the king".
One thing we need to have and guard jealously is the Spirit of God.
He will guide, direct and reveal to us things to come.
He will also help us to realise our mission.
Job is another personage in whom the Spirit of God dwelt in good measure, otherwise, he would have died in his travails.
Listen to him in Job 27verses3-4 NIV "As long as I have life within me, the breath of God in my nostrils, my lips will not speak wickedness and my tongue will utter no deceit"
At the zenith of his travails, he exclaimed in Job 19verse25 NIV "I know that my Redeemer lives..."

BY HIS WOUNDS, WE ARE HEALED
Sunday 17th July, 2022

Text:
"But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities, the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by His wounds, we are healed". Isaiah 53verse5 NIV

Introduction:
The subject of today's exhortation is provoked by the fact that many people are ailing, sick and whacking in pain.
Many times, medication do help. But when this is repeated again and again, the body might become impervious to such medications.
In such situations, these medications just stand as stop gap, soothing the patient for a specific length of time only to return in same or greater dimension.
However, this exhortation is not pointed at discouraging people from medication.
Rather, it is aimed at encouraging people to seek medical attention but to be cautious on relying too much on medication so as not to become addicted to medical drugs to the extent where the body system may begin to become impervious to drug use.
In that case, the body graph on efficacy of drugs may begin to decline.
Our mindset in Divine Healing matters, because we need to believe God for our healing as we believe medical doctors and take our drugs religiously. That same faith we have in medical doctors and the drugs prescribed for us should be extended to the words of God on healing at face value.

Exposition:
Our text says Jesus Christ, our Healer suffered on the Cross at Calvary for our healing.
He was pierced, He was crushed and wounded for our iniquities and transgressions.
But we need to rejoice because all these punishments are responsible for our healing today.
At the end of His ordeal on the Cross, He said "It is finished"
What this means is that He has carried away our iniquities and transgressions by substituting Himself in our place.
Hence, if we believe Him and take Him literarily for His word, raw, without conditions, we shall claim the healing His punishment on the Cross bestows on us.
This leads us to the Prayer of Faith that heals the sick.
"Is anyone of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well. The Lord will raise him up, and if he had sinned, he will be forgiven". James 5verses14-15 NIV
Here, we are not told to shun medicare, rather, we are reminded of the efficacy of Spiritual Healing, occasioned via the power of the anointing oil.
One of the major desires of God for us is our health.
Hear Him in Jeremiah 30verse17 KJV "For I will restore health unto thee and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the Lord..."
But as there are conditions for all other promises of God, so are there conditions for Spiritual Healing too.
The major conditions, amongst others are
(1) Salvation:
The Psalmist says in Psalm 51verse12 NIV "Restore unto me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit to sustain me".
Salvation brings joy and the right spirit necessary for good health.
(2) Godly ways:
In Isaiah 57verse18 NIV, God says of you and I "I have seen your ways and I will heal you. I will guide and restore comfort to you".
To confirm this assurance, Micah 7verse19 NIV says "I will have compassion on you, tread your sins underfoot and haul your iniquities into the depths of the sea"
Friends, you can have good health, even along with longevity and all round peace of mind. The choice is yours.
Take your medication and adhere to the rules of Spiritual Healing too.
They go together like rain and water. But be careful not to be addicted to medical drugs.
Let prayer, faith and total trust in God be water, to swallow your medical drugs.
It shall be well with you.
