THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: You cannot arrive at greatness if you neglect the pathway of diligence. It has been confirmed that diligence or hard work is a major pathway to greatness. You cannot arrive at greatness if you neglect the pathway of diligence. Many years ago, as a young medical doctor, I was consulting in three different places in a day. I consulted in one place in the morning, another place in the afternoon and, yet another place at night. After the night consultation, I would use my car as taxi (kabu-kabu), in the town of Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria, in order to further engage myself. As I carried passengers from one place to the other, I would be praying in the spirit while on the steering wheel. I would be reading the Bible, leading people to Christ, and casting out devils while talking to people at the consultation desk. In fact, I would fire in tongues for one to three hours in the morning before stepping out. Beloved, you can come to a point where you are too restless to be arrested the devil. You are just too restless. It is when you sit in one place that the devil can tie you down. Refuse to be tied down. Someone may just sit down and tell himself, “I am a degree holder. I cannot be a cab driver. How can I be picking and dropping people with a cab?” That is pride. Such a person cannot go far in life. By the grace of God, I drove a cab and carried passengers as a qualified medical doctor in order to further engage myself, not because I was jobless. TOPIC: DEVELOPING YOURSELF TO REACH THE PEAK SCRIPTURE: Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. 1 TIMOTHY 4:13. THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Change or promotion is not a function of age and longevity; it is a matter of choice and self-development. Sometime ago, I heard the story of a female lecturer, who had Master’s Degree in English Language from one of the universities in Nigeria. This lecturer had a student that passed through her tutelage. She lectured this student. After graduation, the student decided to be engaged by the same university and secured an employment as a Graduate Assistant. From being a Graduate Assistant, he was promoted to the rank of Assistant Lecturer, and then to Lecturer Two, Lecturer One, Senior Lecturer, and then he eventually became a Professor in the same English Department, where his former teacher still held a Master’s Degree. After a while, he became the Head of that Department, much higher in rank than the female Lecturer who taught him. You see, some people are angry that a junior person overtook them. The question to ask is, what is the junior person doing to earn such a promotion? That a vehicle is parked by the roadside does not mean others should park. It is good to find out what people did that took them up in life. So, change or promotion is not a function of age and longevity; it is a matter of choice and self-development. You are not promoted by virtue of just longevity, but by productivity resulting from self-development and competence. Beloved, what is your profession in life? Are you a medical doctor, lawyer, estate agent, lecturer or a businessman or woman? Make up your mind to develop yourself and do your job to the highest level. ECCLESIASTES 9:10. THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: In doing what you find, you will locate what you want. It has been confirmed that one of the reasons why we have many idle people today is over-selectivity. Today, graduates and job applicants are too selective of what to do. That is why many people are not doing anything with their lives. But if you decide to do anything you find, very soon, you will locate what you want to do. One day, a young man went to an office where they were looking for someone to employ as a dispatch rider. They were looking for a Senior Secondary School Certificate Holder as a dispatch rider but this young man had a Higher National Diploma (HND), and was already through with his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Programme. He told them he was interested in the job. But they told him, “You are over-qualified. We are looking for an SSCE Holder”. Defiantly, he told them that he was interested. You know, when they saw his tenacity, they employed him and made him a supervisor. They still went ahead to look for another person to employ as a dispatch rider. They saw the audacity in him and couldn’t let him go. They needed a quality human resource material like him. There is a lesson to learn from this story. The young man decided to do whatever his hands found, and that decision gave him a better job. It would have amounted to a show of pride for him to say, “I am a HND holder. I cannot stoop so low to do the work of a dispatch rider”. If he had said that, he would have remained unemployed. Beloved, of what use is your big certificate if it cannot secure a job for you because of pride? I counsel you to start from somewhere. Even if you seem to be overqua
