This year’s theme is “Hepatitis Can’t Wait”. With a person dying every 30 seconds from a hepatitis related illness – even in the current COVID-19 crisis – we can’t wait to act on viral hepatitis. There are five main types of the hepatitis virus – A, B, C, D and E. Together, hepatitis B and C are the most common which result in 1.1 million deaths and 3 million new infections per year. A hepatitis-free future is achievable with a united effort.

Fibroids are growths on the walls of the uterus.
Sometimes, a fibroid is attached to the outside of the uterus by a stalk. Fibroids can be as small as a seed or a pea or as large as an orange or small melon. Although fibroids are called "tumors," they are not cancer.
The technical term for a fibroid tumor is leiomyoma.
Symptoms of fibroids may include;
1. Pain or bleeding.
2. Fibroids may make it hard to pass urine if they grow large enough to press on the bladder.
3. They also may cause abdominal swelling,
4. Pain during in*******se
5. Lower abdominal and pelvic discomfort
6. Pain and increased uterine cramping before and during menstrual periods.
Fibroids also can make it hard for you to get pregnant. Sometimes fibroids can cause problems with pregnancy, labor, or delivery, including miscarriage and premature birth.
Usually, fibroids are found by abdominal or pelvic examination or pelvic ultrasound. Less frequently, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or computerized tomography (CT) scans are used.

On the 3rd of January 2020, 12-year old Bright Anietie Edet was brought in a very bad shape by his mother to Ibom Multi-Specialty Hospital, Ekit Itam II in Akwa Ibom State. On arrival, he couldn't talk due to the presence of a foreign body in his respiratory tract. This made him cough and produce blood at the same time. This incidence took place days before they came to Ibom Multi-Specialty Hospital. She had gone to various teaching hospitals and private hospitals in different states until a doctor from one of the hospitals referred her to Ibom Multi-Specialty Hospital. When she got here, her case was immediately treated as an emergency case, a scan was carried out to decipher the type of foreign body, the extent of damage done in the respiratory tract and the exact location of the foreign body. The scan revealed a whistle stuck in the patient's right main bronchus. Our ENT specialist carried out a "zero degree rigid endoscope with a bronchoscope and an appropriate grasping forceps to take out the whistle.
The mother expressed gratitude to the management of Ibom Multi-Specialty Hospital and advised the general public that IMSH is working, effective and has the best of medical equipment and very dedicated staff.
We are still striving to save lives, care for humanity and deliver excellent medical care, and to achieve this we have just set up our new Intensive Care Unit and Isolation area. Visit us today or call 0802 181 4674 to book an appointment.
