CANCELLATION OF 2020 CHRISTMAS CAROLS FESTIVAL

The Government of Akwa Ibom State wishes to inform the general public that the 2020 edition of the state's Award winning Christmas Carols festival has been cancelled.

This development is hinged on the logistics challenge posed by the global lockdown and international travel restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, in addition to the bourgeoning threat of a second wave of the virus.

As expected of world class events of that magnitude, its preparation starts at least six months before the date. The global travel restrictions and closure of factories earlier in the year, made it impossible to commence the planning of this annual soul lifting spiritual event this year.

The government deeply regrets this development and urges citizens to take personal responsibility, in addition to government restrictions, to prevent the transmission of the dreaded virus.

Eventful Saturday!

Earlier today, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Projects Monitoring, Hon. Johnson Attah, graced some events at his country home, Mkpat Enin LGA

1st, Hon. Attah attended the funeral service of Late Mrs. Rose Aaron Udo at Ikot Abasi Ufon in his home town, Mkpat Enin LGA.

He also graced the burial of Late Mrs. Grace Johnny Brown in Mkpat Enin and the burial of Late Chief Udoaka Udoma at Ikot Obio Akwa Mkpat Enin.

He subsequently moved to Ikono LGA for the traditional marriage of his friend, Mr Otobong and his beautiful wife Joy.

It's indeed a blessed day.

EXCERPTS FROM THE SPECIAL EXCO MEETING ON EDUCATION HELD ON WEDNESDAY 25th NOVEMBER,2020 AT THE EXECUTIVE COUNCIL CHAMBERS GOVERNMENT HOUSE,UYO

The State Executive Council Meeting of the Akwa Ibom State Government was chaired by HE the Governor, with HE the Deputy Governor, Secretary to the State Government, Chief Of Staff, Head of the Civil Service, Honourable Commissioners and Special Advisers in attendance.

The meeting which focused solely on education received the 10 year report titled Akwa Ibom State Education Roadmap(AKSER) presented by the Chairman of the Education Think Tank, Prof. Hilary Inyang. This report contained explicit situation analysis, comprehensive needs assessment and strategic action plan. This report accommodated all the levels of education and took cognizance of current and projected demographics.

Furthermore, the status report of the Akwa Ibom State University was presented by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Nse Essien. He gave a comprehensive report of the challenges, prospects and Programmes of the university.

The Report of the state of Secondary Education was presented by the Chairman State Secondary Education Board, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ekaette Ebong Okon. She extensively reported on the current situation of infrastructure, personnel and curriculum of secondary schools.

The state of primary education report was presented by the Permanent Secretary of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) Mr. Ezekiel Umoh. The report focused on the current state of interventions ongoing in 159 schools across the state.

Council’s Directives
The Governor as Chairman-in-Council directed the commencement of processes for the employment of 1000 teachers. Additionally, he directed that the 2019 promotion results for teachers be released immediately. The Council also directed that SUBEB must complete the intervention in all the 159 schools by the first quarter of 2021.

Ibom Golf and Country Club Plays Tournament to Celebrate Obong Victor Attah at 82

Ibom Golf and Country Club is set to host a tournament to celebrate with the Former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Obong Victor Attah on his 82nd birthday anniversary.

The tournament is an annual event designed to honour the father of new Akwa Ibom State based on his track records of developmental achievements and building an endearing foundation for a better Akwa Ibom.

The tournament is also organised to celebrate Obong Attah for building an exceptional golf course which is the best in Nigeria, and one of the best in Africa.

According to the Captain of Ibom Golf and Country Club, Barr. Usenobong Akpabio, the tournament is set to be played on 21st November, 2020, in 5 categories, viz: 0 to 12, 13 to 19, 20 to 28, Ladies and Veterans.

Subsequent programmes of the event are as follows, Friday, 20th, Arrival/Welcome Cocktail at Ibom Hotel and Golf resort and Saturday, 21st November 2020 Golf tournament/lunch buffet/cutting of cake/ prize presentation.

The tournament which will be played in the present of Obong Victor Attah and other dignitaries across the nation will feature presentation of prizes to winners at the competition.

Barr. Akpabio while addressing news men in Uyo stressed that over 100 golfers who have registered for the tournament from different golf clubs in the country, are expected to arrive Uyo for the tournament.

He described Ibom Golf and Country Club as the pilgrim home for golfers, noting that the visionary leadership of Obong Attah can not be forgotten in a hurry, especially in sports, tourism and recreational developments.

He noted that this year's dress code for the tournament has been changed from normal golf trouser to Ankara. “It will be so unique, instead of using the normal golf attires, we will add more color to it by wearing Ankara".

AKSG TO UNVEIL IBOM CHRISTMAS CELEBRATIONS TOMORROW

The Akwa Ibom State Government through the Ministry of Culture and Tourism will tomorrow unveil plans and modalities to mark the 2020 yuletide.

The Hon Commissioner For Culture and Tourism, Hon Orman Esin while disclosing this to journalists in his office on Thursday said the celebrations will be unveiled at a brief ceremony at Ibom Hotel and Gold Resort on Friday.

Hon Esin said although the year 2020 has been a unique year occasioned by the Covid -19 pandemic and other developments in the country, it was still pertinent for government to carve out avenues for the people of the state to relax with family and friends.

It’s my birthday. My new chapter opens today for more reading. I thank you Father for your amazing power, love, care, goodness, and blessings in my life.

Thank you, Father, that you know me, you hear me, and you see my tears. Thank You, Lord, for the things you have withheld from me. You have protected me from what I may never realize.

I thank you for every blessing and also for every trial for they shape me into who I am meant to be and who you want me to be.

Thank you, God, for the doors you have closed. They have prevented me from going where you would rather not have me go.

I thank you for the Governor and the people of my state, for my spiritual Father and my mentors, for my wonderful family, my wife and children, my mother and siblings, food on the table and roofs over our heads, for friends and foes, the happy and the bad guys.

A’Ibom Moves To Crash High Cost Of Food Items Ahead Of Yuletide.

Akwa Ibom State Governor Udom Emmanuel has mandated the Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr Gloria Edet, to immediately establish agriculture depots in the three senatorial districts of the state.

The Commissioner has also been mandated to take strategic steps to cause the prices of garri and rice to be reduced drastically for the interest of the general populace and in preparation for the Yuletide.

The mandate was part of the decisions reached at the meeting of the Executive Council of the Akwa Ibom State Government, chaired by Governor Udom Emmanuel at government House, Uyo on Wednesday..

In a release signed by the Honourable Commissioner for Information & Strategy, Comrade Ini Ememobong, and made available to newsmen at the end of the exco meeting, Council further directed the ministry of Agriculture to immediately commence large scale commercial onion production, drawing from their experience during the experimental onion cultivation already executed.

The state government also communicated a decision to declare the post of the General Manager of Akwa Ibom Water Company, vacant, and to advertise same.

Council also directed that “That the State COVID-19 Task Force should continue to maintain strict surveillance on COVID -19 spread, in the light of its global resurgence. An action plan for Risk Communication and Community Engagement was presented and reviewed.

“The Next State Executive Council meeting will be dedicated to Education issues, specifically to receive and discuss the 10 year Education roadmap drawn from the Education Summit 2019.”

Today, I chaired the Executive Council of the Akwa Ibom State Government.

After sufficient deliberation of items listed on the agenda, the council resolved as follows:

1. That the post of the General Manager of Akwa Ibom Water Company, which has become vacant, be advertised.

2. That the State COVID-19 Task Force should continue to maintain strict surveillance on COVID -19 spread, in the light of its global resurgence. An action plan for Risk Communication and Community Engagement was presented and reviewed.

3. That the Next State Executive Council meeting will be dedicated to Education issues, specifically to receive and discuss the 10 year Education roadmap drawn from the Education Summit 2019.

4. That the Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture should immediately establish agriculture depots in the three senatorial districts and to take strategic steps to cause the prices of garri and rice to be reduced drastically, for the interest of the generality of the citizens and in preparation for the Yuletide. Labour Issues Negotiation Committee Set Up

A joint Government and Labour committee to negotiate issues affecting the Labour force in the state has been set up. The committee is headed on the government side by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Akparawa Ephraim A. Inyangeyen, assisted by the Head of the Civil Service, Elder Efiong Essien and the Honourable Commissioner for Labour and manpower planning, Hon. Pastor Sunny Ibuot, while Labour side will be led by the Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress, Akwa Ibom State, Comrade Sunny James assisted by the NLC Secretary and Treasurer, Comrade Iboro Ibara, Comrade Effiong Nya, respectively and the representative of the Joint Public Sector Negotiation Committee,Comrade Tina Essien.

The Committee is to negotiate the 13 points demands of the NLC and submit a comprehensive report within 30 days to the Governor for necessary action.

Akparawa Ephraim Inyangeyen has promised that the government representatives will apply utmost good faith in the pursuit of the objectives of the committee.

REVIEW OF CURFEW
Following the comprehensive review of the security situation in the state and advice from the security agencies, His Excellency the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel has directed that the Curfew earlier imposed by the State Government be reviewed to start from 10pm till 7am daily, effective today, Monday 2nd November, 2020. A further review will be undertaken in due course.

The Governor appreciates the entire citizens for their cooperation and understanding throughout the period of the restriction and deeply regrets the inconveniences that the curfew may have caused citizens.

The Governor remains unwaveringly committed to the protection of lives and property of her citizens at all times and circumstances.

AKWA IBOM STATE LOCAL GOVERNMENT COUNCIL ELECTIONS, 31 OCTOBER, 2020: RESTRICTION OF MOVEMENT.

In compliance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999(as amended) the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) will conduct elections on 31st October, 2020 as earlier announced.

In order to ensure a free, fair, credible and peaceful conduct of elections into the 31 Local Government Councils of Akwa Ibom State, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency Mr. Udom Emmanuel, has directed as follows:

1. That all Inter-state border entry points, leading into Akwa Ibom State, be closed from 7am to 2pm on Saturday, 31st October, 2020.

3. That human and vehicular movements be restricted from 7am to 2pm on Saturday 31st October, 2020. Eligible voters are therefore enjoined to stay within the premises of their polling units during the period of the elections.
4. That those on essential duties, viz: medical personnel, electoral officials and election observers, accredited pressmen be exempted from the movement restrictions.

5. That, in order to enable active participation of civil servants in the election, work will close at 2pm on Friday 30 October, 2020.

6. That the subsisting state-wide daily curfew of 8pm to 7am is still in force till further notice.

7. That all citizens and residents are advised to continue to be law-abiding in the maintenance of peace in Akwa Ibom State.

8. That all voters, while queuing to exercise their franchise, should comply with the AKSG/NCDC/WHO approved COVID-19 Guidelines and Protocols.

All Security Agencies have been briefed to strictly enforce this restriction of movement directive.
