This week, our team reviewed two books during our weekly team meeting. Deep Work by Cal Newport and Building a Story Brand by Donald Miller.

Different team members took turns to present on segments of the books and it was an amazing learning time for the entire team.

It’s a combination of learning, skills development and confidence building. Growth is one of our core values and we try to make sure that no new month meets any of us the same way.

This year, we decided that our organization would become intentional about working with students from public schools who on a normal day are unable to pay for our STEM, Coding and Entrepreneurship trainings, or afford our resources.

The few times we worked with public school students, we discovered that many of them are extremely smart. Like Leila Janah said, "talent is evenly distributed, but opportunity is not".

It's not right that a lack of access to opportunities should limit the realization of any child's potential, and we decided we would do whatever we can to make opportunities available to as many students as we can.

I'm happy to announce that we just got the approval of the Akwa Ibom State Government to organize 3-Day Innovation Readiness Bootcamps in some selected public secondary schools in the state.

In the first phase of our pilot program, we will work with three schools:
1. Cornelia Cornelly College (an all girls secondary school)
2. Uyo High School
3. Aka Community Secondary School

The Bootcamps will focus on exposing the students to hands on Problem Solving, Design Thinking and 21st Century Workplace Skills in a very fun and engaging environment.

So that we don't affect their regular classes, we would meet with them after school, provide them lunch daily and prepare activity and group worksheets for them.

We are committed to working with at least 50 students in each of the schools. We can take more if we can afford to. The work of reaching 50 is almost the same as reaching 100.

The ex*****on of the Bootcamp costs N15,000 per student, covering all learning materials, lunch for 3 days and all extra logistics.

If, like us, you share a deep passion and desire to help young students prepare for the future and be better equipped with the skills of creativity for problem solving and innovation, then you can make a donation to make it possible for an extra student to be a beneficiary of the Innovation Readiness Bootcamp.
https://paystack.com/pay/irb-akwaibom

If you have a specific location or audience you'll like to sponsor the IRB for, please let me know. And if you'll like to create a partnership between your organization and ours to make this possible, we would include on all marketing resources and inform all the beneficiaries that this was sponsored by you, or your organization.

For all donors who will like recognition, we are creating an Impact Wall on our website to mention all the sponsors and donors who make the Innovation Readiness Bootcamp possible.

Let's change the future of Nigeria, one student at a time.

We spent the weekend helping students of Data Analysis and Visualization assigned to us at part of the 3 Million Tech Talent (3MTT) program by the Federal Government to get into the real world and have a simulation of what their role as Data Analysts will actually look like when they get placed in companies and jobs.

We split the fellows into four groups and assigned each group to one of four industries: health, banking, telecoms and retail.

Each of the group was to select a real business in that sector, study how data is generated in that company, identify the different entities about whom data is collected and stored, and then come up with real business questions that company executives, investors or other stakeholders may need answers to but which can only be answered using data generated by the business.

For most of the fellows, it was the first time they were getting to understand how their role would function in a real organization, many of them got to understand how critical data is to decision making, and the real “aha moment” was then they got to understand that all the Python and Statistics they’re learning is not the real work, but the ability to use them on real data to help decision making is what makes them important.

These fellows have picked up real interest in their studies and now look forward to the applied learning clusters every weekend, because there’s no way these experiences could be effectively created in just online learning.

We’re also delighted to see amazing networking and friendships being developed.

We’re to be part of their stories and part of creating this great milestone for our dear nation.

As part of our mission to catalyze innovation and promote creative entrepreneurship among young people in Nigeria and Africa, our STEM Teaching Webinar Series is targeted at supporting key players in the educational sector with knowledge, tools and resources to improve the outcomes from our schools in terms or innovation.

As we position Africa to shift from raising a consumption-driven generation towards raising a creator-driven generation, it is important to address the key ingredients of innovation.

In our webinar for February, we'll be talking about Curiosity, a necessary ingredient for creativity and innovation. People who are not curious never discover anything new and hardly ever create anything new, yet curiosity is an attribute that can be discovered, developed and nurtured in every child and young person.

In this webinar, you'll learn practical ways to identify curious students, tools and techniques that can be used in classrooms and learning spaces to develop and nurture that curiosity and translate it into intelligent questioning and scientific thinking, another integral part the journey to becoming innovators.

It's a free webinar that will benefit every teacher, educator and parent.

If you’re looking for the most comprehensive, simplified and pedagogically sound curriculum for helping children develop their ability to code, then you are reading the right message.

At EarlyFounders Labs, we’ve created amazing resources:

- Our curriculum “Pathway to Innovation” provides a framework that helps children to develop problem-solving and critical thinking skills, learn to coding and learn entrepreneurship. It can be implemented in any context, offline or online, and is available for licensing to schools, STEM clubs and innovation hubs. Students can also engage directly by enrolling to our academy.

- Our textbooks “Early Coding for Kids” makes it easy to teach computer programming in both primary and secondary schools. We’ve made it very easy to integrate into the curriculum. It’s available from Levels 1-5, and we’ve created Teacher Certification Courses for each of the levels.

- We’ve created child-friendly video lessons for all the curriculum topics, making it easier to teach even if you don’t have sound or trained teachers skilled in computer programming.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing snippets from these videos, brilliantly taught specifically for young audiences.

All our resources are available for purchase, licensing or partnerships.
