Being a Nigerian Pidgin Apologist does not make me a non-muslim nor an uneducated fellow. Check and confirm the status of Nigerian Pidgin in my region (South-South) apart from languages in the Edoid, Igboid, Ijoid, Cross-Riverian and Ibibioid linguistic groups). Using Nigerian Pidgin to spread Islam in the region is akin to using Hausa as a lingua franca of the Arewa (Northern Nigerian peoples) to spread Islam in the North.

Nigerian Pidgin began in the Niger Delta Region (particularly in the Benin-Warri area) due to our early contact with the Portuguese Merchants as far back as the 15th Century and then with the coming of the British colonialists in the 19th Century.

So, Nigerian Pidgin is ingrained in the way of life of my people. It is also our first language. I grew up with two first languages: Nigerian Pidgin and Atteh-Okpela-Ivbie North Language (a language that sprang from the Edo/ Benin Language) in Edo State before learning Nigerian English Language and Medinah Arabic Language. Only Niger-Deltans, especially those from Edo, Delta, Bayelsa and Rivers States, etc can relate this.

🕌 Islamic Criteria for Leading Congregational Prayer according to Shari'ah 🕋

Assalamu Alaikum dear brothers and sisters,

As we gather to perform our daily prayers, it's essential to understand the criteria that one must meet to lead the congregational prayer according to Islamic law (Shari'ah). The guidance comes from the Quran and Hadith, which are the primary sources of Islamic teachings.

Knowledge and Piety (Taqwa):
The person leading the prayer should possess sufficient knowledge of the Quran and Sunnah, as well as a deep understanding of Islamic principles. Their actions and character should reflect piety, as emphasized in the following verse:

Quran - Surah Al-Baqarah (2:197):
"And take provisions, but indeed, the best provision is Taqwa. So fear Me, O you of understanding."

Adherence to Obligations (Fard):
A potential prayer leader must be punctual and diligent in performing the obligatory acts of worship. This includes the five daily prayers, as they are the foundation of a Muslim's faith.

Correct Recitation (Tajweed) and Knowledge of Quran:
The prayer leader must have a proficient knowledge of Tajweed, the rules of Quranic recitation, to ensure that the words of Allah are recited accurately during the prayer.

Hadith - Sahih Muslim (804):
The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said, "Indeed, Allah does not listen to anything as He listens to this Surah (Al-Fatihah) recited by this person."

Good Character (Adab) and Humility:
Humility and good character are essential qualities for an Imam. They should lead the prayer with modesty and avoid any actions that might distract the congregation from their devotion.

Hadith - Sahih Muslim (658):
The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said, "The imam is to be followed. Say 'Ameen' when he says 'Ameen,' bow when he bows, and rise when he rises."

Knowledge of Prayer Rules (Fiqh):
The prayer leader should possess a solid understanding of the rules of prayer (Fiqh) to ensure the correctness of the prayer and its proper performance.

Hadith - Sahih Muslim (768):
The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said, "Pray as you have seen me praying."

Remember, the role of an Imam is not just to lead the prayer but also to be an example for the congregation to follow. It's important for us to support qualified individuals who meet these criteria to lead us in our worship and strengthen our unity as a community.
