Elections: University Management extends resumption date
Following the rescheduling of the Governorship and House of Assembly Elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC), the University of Uyo(UNIUYO) will on Tuesday, March 21, reopen for normal academic activities barring any die-minute change.
This was contained in a statement signed Monday by the acting registrar of the institution, Linus Okoko and made available to news men.
“I write to inform members of the University community that the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nyaudoh Ndaeyo has, on behalf of Senate, directed that the University of Uyo should remain closed till Monday, March 20, 2023,“ he stated.
Mr. Linus noted that “all staff in the Principal Officers Offices and those on essential duties will, however, continue to perform their duties as scheduled for them.
“Normal work resumes on Tuesday, March 21, 2023,” the statement added.
It would be recalled that the federal government of Nigeria had directed that all Universities and Inter-University Centres be closed and academic activities suspended for a period of three weeks, due to “concerns expressed on the security of staff, students and properties of the respective institutions” in view of the anticipated general elections.
However, on Wednesday, the electoral body rescheduled the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly Elections to March 18, citing time-constraint for the reconfiguration of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), thereby forcing tertiary institutions across the country to extend their reopening date.
