St. Augustine's College, Oghara

The 24th of February, 2024, was an enigmatic spectre and a day to remember in St. Augustine's College Oghara, as His Excellency the Bishop of Warri Diocese graced us with his presence.

The occasion began with Holy Mass at 11am. During the Mass, about 76 persons we're added to the number of the soldiers of Christ through the sacrament of Confirmation.

After the Mass guests and dignitries were trilled to the sight and scenes of our culture in it's beauty and splendour, with a cultural carnival depicting our unity in diversity in the diversity dance. History relived as even in dramatized performances, we echoed our theme "Reliving Our Cultural Heritage". Our guests and parents were treated to a lifetime experience of our ecstatic mouthwatering delicacies and meals.

O, what a happy ending at the event culminating history come alive as we indeed "RELIVED OUR CULTURAL HERITAGE".

 Ability to provide additional support for slow learners.
 Strong moral character and capable of monitoring and mentoring students and molding them into responsible citizens.


INDEED THE TEACHER'S REWARD IS IN HEAVEN
Teaching is the first and best profession in every society because it is a profession that births all other professions. If this reality was upheld in every society, the Teacher would have been the number one Citizen of every society. On the contrary this is not true in almost all societies; hence, the Teacher is the most relegated professional in all societies.

Because the Teacher is tasked with the job of molding all professionals and future leaders of the society, the Teacher spends extra time and resources not trying to better the quality of his/her life, but the better the lives of the students placed in his/her care. While they sleep, the teacher stays awake thinking of how best he/she can make certain principles, theories, formularies, definitions etc. meaningful to the students.

The Teacher in order to get the students to learn what is taught becomes everything to the student:

When the students are confused, the Teacher becomes a counselor,
When the students are sick, the Teacher becomes a doctor,
When the students are depressed, the Teacher becomes a Therapist,
When the students are weak, the Teacher becomes a motivator,
When the students are strong, the Teacher remains a companion,
When the students cry, the Teacher becomes a consoler,
When the students go astray, the Teacher becomes a shepherd,
When the students are in need, the Teacher most times becomes a provider,
When the students are in need of parental care in school, the Teacher becomes a parent.

This Teacher, who is everything to every student, is never appreciated by anyone!
The students blame the Teacher for bad grades but praise themselves for good grades,
The parents blame the Teacher for the students’ lack of understanding,
The management thinks the Teacher has not done enough, the reason the result is poor,
The Government, Proprietors and Administrators do not think the Teacher is worthy of noble wages,
When the students fail, the Teacher has failed in every one’s eyes,
But when the students do well, no one remembers the Teacher, the student says I did well, the parents say my child is doing well; the management says our students are doing well. Everyone forgets the untiring efforts of the Teacher.
Many good done by the Teacher go unrecognized and unrewarded; yet every mistake is exaggerated, cautioned, and punished. No wonder the famous dictum: ‘A Teachers reward is in heaven’
Dear noble Colleagues, as provoking as the dictum above may sound, it is very true, because no one can pay you for all the sacrifices you make as Teachers - No amount of money can equate your time, energy, resources and even your entire life poured out in service to the students you teach.
Therefore, what I pray for is that may “this heaven” not mean the sky above, but that the heaven should be God’s dwelling place, our dream home for eternity. For if the Teachers reward is in the heavens above (sky); it will mean that the Teacher’s reward is beyond reach, but if the Teacher’s reward is heaven where God is, then we can be sure that when we meet with Jesus Christ who is the One, True and Eternal Teacher, he will definitely bless us with this reward that the world cannot give us.

It was all warmth and joy for the students of St. Augustine's College, Oghara, Delta State, as families and friends were reunited with their loved ones after the first four weeks of the term, following the conclusion of the First Continuous Assessment Test , on Saturday, 23rd October, 2021. Evaluation of the students' academic performances and interaction with form teachers were the highlights of the day.

A throwback to 1st October, 2021, Independence Day celebration marked with fun-filled football competition between the staff members and students of St. Augustine’s College, Oghara, Delta State, and a spectacular Cultural Night Party tagged ‘Nigeria, My Pride’.
